The Roots Run Deep

We got to Finland yesterday morning… the trip and the seven hour time change had me pretty whipped but I rallied by evening to go out to a traditional Finnish Restaurant for dinner with some relatives from my Grandmother Ida’s side. Some of these folks were so young I had never met them and some I hadn’t seen in over a quarter of a century. Family is family though and we had a wonderful evening.

Thanksgiving And Off To The Old Country… Finland

Thanksgiving was such a treat… the whole family together, kids and adults… in-laws and friends. Superb, simply superb and eaten in the Beatrice Love Kitchen at the Fur Peace Ranch. My son got one day to ride his bike at Hillside Farm, and yes… that’s mud on the tires!

Well, I’m JFK right now waiting for a flight to Finland. More when i get to the Old Country.

With Chanukah and Christmas in the air, how bad could it be?

Onward!

On This Day… We Give Thanks

It is indeed Thanksgiving 2011 today and I would just like to wish all my friends out there a very Happy Thanksgiving. I have more blessings in my life than I can count and I am grateful beyond words!

Have a good one, everyone!

Well… here we are at the Melting Point, in Athens, Georgia. We were here a couple of years ago and love it then… love it now. Our thanks to Wes, the sound guy who does such a great job. Also, bus parking… shore power and a motel attached to the gig. How much better than that does it get? Last night at the show, my pal Barry Mitterhoff was absolutely on fire. Wow!

Here is our set list:

The Sacred And The Profane In Chapel Hill

Tonight Stefan Grossman, Ernie Hawkins, Elijah Wald were part of a show at the University Of North Carolina paying tribute to the Rev. Gary Davis.

Elijah gave a great lecture and the three of us played in turn. Ernie went on first, then Stefan then me. Now I didn’t keep a set list tonight but here at least are some of the songs I played not necessarily in the right order:

1. True Religion
2. Death Don’t Have No Mercy
3. Let Us ...

Saturday night at the Station, Barry Mitterhoff and Skoota Warner joined Jack Casady and myself and our special guest GE Smith for a rocking two set show that lasted almost three hours. The Fur Peace Station was filled to capacity with folks from all over the country.

Here is our set list:

I reflect with gratitude on our brave men and women who serve. Those who have fallen… those who stand… those who walked in the past, those who walk today and those who will come… I honor their service, their bravery and their love of country and family!
