Sunrise before snowfall…

Wednesday John Hurlbut and I made the trek to Columbus for a shared gig at Natalie’s Grandview. Hurl and I have shared friendship and music for over four decades and it just keeps getting better. The temperature was dropping as Myron and I pulled into the parking lot off King Avenue. It was a sold out show with folks who came to listen, which was a good thing since we came to play!

I played for an hour then John and I played for an hour and forty minutes… big musical fun!

I was down on the river this morning to take care of some business in Pomeroy and a long string of coal barges was navigating the straight before the Mason Bridge. It sure looked cold out there on the river and I was more than glad that the heater worked in my old Jeep. Watching the mist rise off the water it occurred to me that I have been in Southeast Ohio for a little more than three decades. This is indeed a home that is not going anywhere and that big river is always there to remind me of that!

More will be revealed.

    Happy Thanksgiving All!
It’s America’s Choice…from the landing in Provincetown in 1620 to that Grunt Label LP in 1975 with everything in between and since, from sea to shining sea.

I think every person who loves great guitar will appreciate this little video – great example of our British brethren paying fine homage to classic American music (of course made by the children of immigrants – the thing that really makes America great). Horn section, fabulous drummer, and the great Mr. Jeff Beck on guitar.

Now, I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Kaukonen do a beautiful version of Sleep Walk on his lap steel at the Lone Star in NYC way back when. 80’s? 90s? I have lost track. Would love to hear it again. What a timeless and incredible tune. It makes me want to go out and learn the pedal steel. That was the Lone Star at its non-Union Square location … somewhere on west 50s or something.

Oblivious to the obvious. Steve, not Brian.

Oblivious to the obvious, I meant Steve, not Brian. Ever been there?

    @Jorma
I’ll have to wait until the song list makes its way here to know which tunes. I was in the house with the Ramble horns section a few times. Brian can blow that horn! I’mma guess a few tunes I could imagine him in on, and see if I get any right. Have a nice Thanksgiving. Peace.

I see Steve Bernstein is going to be at the Capital shows. I looked him up and is he the trumpet player I see or is there another SB? Also is he playing with HT or opening act? Looking forward to Capital and Huntington shows..

Steve is the kingpin in the Ramble BandHorn Section. He and his gang were the horn section on the Little Feat tour we were on over the summer. Steve is a very heavy cat with a great musical sense of humor. He will be on many if not most of the tunes but I’m not going to tell you which ones. 🙂 You’ll just have to come to the show.

Suffice it to say we’ll all be blowing… to say the least. Fasten your seat belt…

    Hi Jorma,
I was at Natalie’s and I’m here to say that you guys really gave us some great stuff from our “Hometown Hero”.
Hurl is a legend in Columbus.. truly. Never in the 44 years we’ve been friends have I ever heard a discouraging word about John. Thank you for playing with him, and I’m convinced that your own guitar playing has reached yet another level. I enjoy watching and listening to your playing while Hurl sings is ..
Well it’s jus way cool what can I say. Happy Thanksgiving
    You Mensch!

I grew up on the Ohio and it was always majestic . . and then some. I was born in Maysville, KY and grew up in Pt. Pleasant, WV a few miles south of you. I remember Pomeroy well. Now I live on the Hudson right on the Tappan Zee . . . talk about majestic!
