Freedom Of The Road And Music

Jerry Bayha, my son Zachary and I rode out the route for this year’s Pick ‘n’ Putt… and a beautiful one it was. We headed out towards Glouster, Ohio and over on Rt. 78 towards McConnellsville and then past lock 7 on the Muskingham.

Our next stop was at Lock 5 across from Stockport. It was such a beautiful day, we spent some time just watching the river.

What a fine day for a great ride with friends. When we got back to the Fur Peace Ranch, I taught an afternoon class and spent the evening watching the Tony Rice Unit. An All Star lineup with Bryn Davies on bass, Josh Williams on Vocals and mandolin, Rob Ickes on dobro, Wyatt Rice on guitar and of course… the great Tony Rice!

Another Fabulous shoe by the Unit! We thank them so much for making the trek and hope they will come back!

This evening after class and dinner, Geoff Achison, George Porter Jr and I had one of the greatest jams I’ve had in a long time. Free form… with divine direction.

On this note of enlightenment… I’m going to bed.

Ignorance don’t pay, that’s why i’m constantly poor for not even being able to distinguish what those rectangles of light placed behind the seats of the FPR Station stalls, could actually be. At the first glance I thought they were bikes just parked like in a drive-in, then TV screens, then a sheet of paper with ‘reserved’ written on it, perhaps the violins and other instruments score (the famous theatres round the world have their orchestra playing off the stage, down in front). The purpose of the call is ‘enlightenment’. A rare hot and humid September with the sun through the lacteous air, typical of this month, sixty five Septembers all concentrated in a spectacular Sunday, with the severe green of the luxuriant and ripe vegetation well framing such a glorious day, spent for the occasion in company (CD player of my car going and coming from the countryside) of the ‘ transcendental Jorma’s solo’ in “Angel Of Darkness” (“Steady As She Goes” the Perfect Album) repeated to the infinite, just the solo duly masterized to fill in a writable CD, on & on. Not only, there’s this new entry by Papa John Creach, ‘Fiddlesticks’, a song on a double live in-concert at Long Branch Park 1983 and just out (2011). Well, this combo simply rocketed the voiture with me in, to the top ring of Paradise, something of such a Power & Shines, always there, in certain magic moments it connects, ignition, in orbit, and the galaxies well within start replacing the silent darkness with the combo, go figure, the summa of all the wonderful moments of my life concentrated on the pinhead of a moment all in one, I don’t remember it ever occurred to me, I never heard these two songs before that’s the real reason, Paradise ain’t no abstract. Enlightenment, music is as vital as life and love themselves. It often occurs to me that in Sept/Oct i come across with songs that form the puzzle of the soundtrack of my life, “Bolero”, ‘Banana Boat” , “I Want to Be Free”, “Save the Last Dance for Me”, “Good Vibrations”, “Reach Out I’ll Be There”, when I now listen to them the mensch within becomes a toffee, sometime no soundtrack so I think I didn’t deserve it, last August I was wondering and here they are, I deserved it, and it’s so huge a thrill, get the combo and be in Heaven! The feeling is so serious a matter that the subsequent thoughts ought to match, so whilst I was in the car over the country roads where no one could see the mad face and moves I was dressed with, looking at the sky I coolly reflected on Creation and thanked G-d to show to my soul His work, and to allow me to live it. I’m alcohol free and don’t abuse of drugs, just a guy driving a car on a country road with the CD on, on a Sunday afternoon before it closes. Well if a good thought is equal to a prayer, the thought I had after, was the deep passing inalterability of the condition of MILLIONS of children, to them the Lord must give my Sunday. When, it’s up to my Lord!
Thanks Jorma for the blessed opportunity, and thanks for your music, it allows a wonderful life of enlightenment.

    Note to the uninitiated..

Those little white “rectangles of light” are indeed reserved signs.

Please lay off the ‘shrooms before you post. If I read your comments all the way thru, I would have risked having a flashback. I can’t do that again this week.

BTW…L’Shana Tova to Jorma, Vanessa, family and FPR friends. Best wishes for a sweet, happy and healthy year.
