A Night With The Persuasions

Last night, we at the Fur Peace Ranch hosted the Persuasions for the second time and what a show they put on… as always… there is nothing more powerful than the human voice and that voice filled our little theater with light. Thank you gentlemen!

Jack Casady was supposed to be here this weekend, but due to family issues at home he was unable to make it. Of course, our prayers are with Jack and Diana… more will be revealed. My friend Lincoln Schleifer who played with me on my River Of Time CD and when Jack gave his blessing for Lincoln to sub… I was thrilled. We were also hosting Jill Sobule as a songwriting teacher this weekend and she agreed to join Lincoln and myself to open the show for the Persuasions. We had more fun than… well, you can imagine. Through my own minor health issues, relationship issues, and just growing up in general, Jorma, being able to look at your posts regularly keeps me connected as I havn’t been to a Tuna/Jorma show in too long. Mental obsession, ya know? Anyway, seeya @ The Beacon. Sounds like y’all had a fun weekend. Nightly prayers to Jack & Diane. Love….

Just a wonderful show and a wonderful weekend. For readers of this blog, what Jorma left out was the incredibly sweet beginning of the show, where Vanessa and others, um, “colluded” is the only word that fits, to arrange an onstage marriage proposal on the FPR stage before a packed house. (Thankfully she said “yes.”) I agree with Frank (that you Frank, of “Dixie” fame?) that it was a great show and a magical weekend. To Cindy: I kept saying “someday” and then finally did it. You should too. You can’t return if you don’t go the first time. Thanks to Jorma, Vanessa, John and everyone who made last weekend so special!

I am blessed beyond measure to have just shared my seventh Couples Weekend with some old friends…and a few new ones, too. As Jorma said, it was a spectacular night at the Fur Peace Station. However, since no one else has mentioned it, I will. Those in attendance on Saturday evening also had the supreme pleasure of witnessing FPR’s first-ever, on-stage marriage proposal for two of my fellow “repeat offenders.” So, all this…AND I get to be Hurl’s Girl all-year ’round. As someone I know – and admire greatly – would say, it just doesn’t get any better than that!

My first visit to FPR and, I hope, not my last. A great weekend of music learning, sharing, and performance. Never experienced anything like it before. Thanks to Jorma, Vanessa, John, Brett and the whole crew–and all the other students.

Certainly hoping that Jorma and company gave Jill some notions toward what she might want to play on her next album ( as she has been musing over it). She had to have come to FPR with a unique vision of reality after her obviously stellar turn at the prison in Lancaster,CA – here is the moving letter of appreciation from a prisoner after they finished up there: http://www.jillsobule.com/thelatest/

Please let us know as to Jack & Diana’s well being….when the time is correct.

What a great show! The “warm-up” was superb. A bunch of great musicians playing together. Jill Sobule was an unexpected delight. The Persuasions rocked the house – each song better than the one before – a great U2 tune as well. There is nothing like the Ranch – well worth the trip.

Maybe one day Jorma you will hire the original lead singer, arranger and producer of The Persuasions. The signature voice of the real Persuasions with his new group who were recently honored on NBC TV
