Halloween, Sandy And Beyond

October 30th, 2012 Leave a comment Go to comments

Well, we all know now what a monster storm Sandy turned out to be… and thank G_d more loves weren’t lost… stuff is just stuff and can be replaced. Our Rev Gary Davis Weekend at the Fur Peace Ranch started out magnificently as it always does, this time with Ernie Hawkins, Myself and Stefan Grossman. Saturday, the David Bromberg dropped in and played a sold out show here… plus I got to sit in… always an honor.

As Sunday was rolling around, we realized that Sandy was the real deal, and many folks opted to drive out early so they could get home before disaster struck and closed everything down. All in all, in spite of the Sandy Drama… a good time was had by all and we shall live to pick another day.

Think about this… on Friday, it was in the 80’s. This morning, here is the view from my back porch.

What happened to Autumn?

What happened to Autumn?

In an hour or so, I’m leaving for Minneapolis and the Dakota Jazz Club Restaurant. Heading North when the weather gets bad… that’s how we pros do it.

More anon…

    Happy Birthday Grace!

1939: Singer Grace Slick, best known as the lead singer for the rock band Jefferson Airplane, and later incarnations of the band as Jefferson Starship and Starship, is born under the birth name Grace Barnett Wing in Evanston, Ill.

    Love & Peace

    Rock On Cap’n.

It’s a weather shuffle all over the globe, Jorma!
We have now piranhas new in the Med which is all to say.
In these cases I’m like a mom in apprehension for his son to come home through the storm. Yet too fragile, I feel a little bit like the sissies of getting old ain’t for sissies.
To digress, great of you Mutt. That is why I unconsciously spent my afternoon viewing over the tube the colored interviews with Grace Slick and some videos where ‘Young & Mature’ Jorma was rocking way high just like no one. That lead guitar, in the middle of voices and instruments pushed to their incandescence in hot times, is fixed as the absolute adamantine psychedelic rock sound and way, ever. Indelible in our souls and in our memory.
A brainwave Mutt. Have you ever loved a woman more than Grace Slick, actually I personally more than with Grace Slick herself, felt terribly in love one night with ‘Manhole’, the sleeve of that still orbiting album, staring at that supernatural portrait from the window of a record shop. (At those times in Italy there was little to see and everything to listen to). But that little Western Icon is for me like Beatrice is for Dante.

Frequent updatings are neurologically needed. Come Back Baby!
All my love Jorma and always thanks for the opportunity.
    Steady As She Goes

I was lucky, my area in Westchester NY didn’t have too many problems, but the rest of the area is unbelievably bad. Prayers and good luck to all who were affected.

    Dear Jorma,
I live in the area directly affected by Sandy(Jersey Shore), which I have now named “My City of Ruins”, after
A Springsteen song. We have no power, and much devastation,
But most of us are here to see another day!
Tuna, and all my Tuna buddies are providing me with great comfort in these dark days.

    Stay well,
