Beautiful delights at the Musical Instrument Museum, Phoenix

Night before last we were at the glorious Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix. There is nothing like this that I know of anywhere else in the world. What a joint! The exhibits were off the charts. Where else are you going to see something like this?

Where's Jack when we need him?

    Powerful double set list, wow Jorma!
    That ought to be an octobass, i saw it being played by a member of a chamber orchestra, the guy had to climb up to the second floor to make it work, with handles like column shift-bars, to press over the frets with a kind of a semi-clockwork device, too cumbersome for the Lady Killer’s quartet.
    Where the Tuna spins his sound it’s stellar zone all around, I’m in stellar zone since a week now with my Jorma at the Beacon DVD that just got here, my little couch is untouched.
    Rock Them All High Jorma!
    Steady As She Goes

    Really enjoyed the show at the Musical Instrument Museum.

    Seems to me I heard Let Us Get Together Right Down Here, between The Terrible Operation and Second Chances, and I’m pretty sure Embryonic Journey was the encore. And don’t you want to count Barry’s rendition of The Shadow Of Your Smile, before Good Shepherd?

    Does Fur Peace Ranch have instruction to offer for a non-professional accordion player?

    Many Thanks for the great music!

    Hi Captain,

    You need to get a gig in Brussels, Belgium and visit their Musical Instrument Museum. And I need to get to Phoenix. 🙂

    Multi-floor museum in a beautiful, old renovated department store. I rented the wireless headset that activates when you stand next to the instrument or display.

    Glad you enjoyed the museum. Next time you make it to NYC, do the Metropolitan’s instrument collection.

    Jorma – thanks for the great pics – that last shot of the blue sky made me smile, seems like i haven’t seen a blue sky like that in months here in ny – i gotta name for it – California Blue. And that golden bass looks a lot like Jack’s. How is Jack, tell him we miss him(really do). Adios amigo!

    Great show in Santa Barbara last night. Loved every minute of it, awesome Good Shepherd and I Know you Rider, i had to get up out of my seat during I know you rider. Really looking forward to mccabes. Save travels to Pioneertown, I checked out some of the reviews and they are all stellar, says good food and good service.

    @doug mlyn
    Yes it is nice Doug that the set lists are now posted . Back in the day it was very difficult to write the songs down in the dark under conditions the weren’t always conducive to good penmenship.

    @John B
    John: There is also tunabase.com. But it is not as timely as Jorma’s posts. And not as interesting either.
