Wanee Report

Me, Mickey Thomas and the birthday boy... Jack

Me, Mickey Thomas and the birthday boy... Jack

The boys and I have been playing Wanee for many years now. We love this gig and the folks there have always treated us like gold! The weather was perfect… and there were 10,000 folks there at the Mushroom Stage. Now, I knew that there was a secret plan to celebrate Jack’s 69th birthday on stage. Jack, I think, was clueless. Here is our set list with the birthday events inserted:

Hot Tuna 16, 2013
The Electric Quartet
Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady
Barry Mitterhoff & Skoota Warner
Wanee Festival
Live Oak, Florida
Thursday, April 18, 2013

1. I See The Light
2. Children of Zion
3. Can’t Get Satisfied
4. Ode To Billy Dean
5. True Religion
6. Hesitation Blues
7. Jack’s Birthday Celebration

The cake...

The cake...

Myron Hart and a lovely assistant present the cake on stage:

Is that for me?

Is that for me?

Wait, there’s more:

Many more brother... many more!

Many more brother... many more!

More from the set list:

8. A Little Faster
9. Bowlegged Woman
10. Vicksburg Stomp
11. Rock Me Baby
12. Funky # 7

Yep… good times. After the show we drove Barry Mitterhoff, Jack Casady, Skoota Warner and Phil Jacobs back to the hotel at the Jacksonville Airport and Myron, Daniel The Driver and I headed back north to Ohio. Right now we’re somewhere in South Carolina.

As always, more will be revealed!

Meillä ovat käyneet kaikki mm. Madonna useasti.
But.. Suomalaisilla on kolme paikkaa jonne voisin sinut viedä suoraan ohjelmistoon. Rauma-Blues, Pori-jazz, Järvenpää Blues Festival.

Jorma, I have seen several of your shows. My favorite was”there goes the neighborhood” playin in Mt. Crested Butte late 80’s I think. Small close friend audience. My brother,15 yrs younger, has been invited to the ranch,by a friend. He doesn’t know alot about you,but he will be big fan I am sure.

Just turned myself on to an old Dave Crosby album again the other
day, my father passed least year, i get it now. We are all dying, it makes sense.
Blame evil for our mistakes, call it justice when its been done,
all i know is that i have never been loved, but stood fast in my beliefs. I don’t regret a day. Or a friend , a chance encounter, only say, hmm. I guess they Do
    know more than me. Peace.

Just found a kazoo in my leather vest with Happy Birthday Jack on it.I ,nor anyone else around me notice it when they handed them out to us. Came in handy during Vicksburg stomp.I noticed Phil pointing me out to the crew.Gave me a good head rush almost passed out.Would’nt have been the 1st time at a Hot Tuna show.See ya all around on the planet “Candleman”
