It’s 0603… Daylight Savings Time left us yesterday morning but the good old internal clock said, ‘It’s time to get up.’ DST or not, it’s still dark out and we are well into Fall for sure. Living in the country as I do, I find myself really tuned into the purpose we give to seasons… sowing… reaping… the rhythm of life that moves us all. I think of the seasons in my own life and like everyone else, I wish I had more time. That thought would have never crossed my mind when I was younger… life was an endless stream of summers and time was of no consequence. All this said, I am the most fortunate of men. At an age when my Father seemed to search relentlessly for things to occupy his time in a meaningful way, I am still able to be not only an active participant in my chosen profession… but still productive.

I just finished work on my new CD project for Red House Records and we are slated for a February 17, 2015 release date. Out of eleven songs I have four originals. Three new ones and a reprise of Bar Room Crystal Ball. Why redo an old song like this? Because I wanted the words to be heard and in my current recordings, you can understand all my words. As a song writer, today I want the words to be understood.

I have talked about this before, but for me today… it is all about the story… the fact that the guitar is my vehicle for this tell is incidental. Of course this does not minimize the guitar in my life… not at all. Without the guitar my life would have been of far less consequence.

The seasons come, and the seasons go, and for today I am enjoying my place in Fall.

This coming weekend is our final weekend of the 17th year at the Fur Peace Ranch and we will be hosting Jack Casady, G.E.Smith, myself and Spencer Bohren.. It should be a rockin’ weekend… as always!

More will be revealed!

When we were younger we thought we were invincible – as we get older – not so much anymore. Older and wiser but more vulnerable. Sto Lat Captain.

Looking forward to the release and Bar Room Crystal Ball revisited very cool indeed! I still have my vinyl copy of Yellow Fever!

Bar Room Crystal Ball was my favorite song off of “Yellow Fever.” Still remember when it was released and love hearing you and your colleagues play it live today. For what it’s worth, I always liked your originals better than the blues covers and Rev. Gary Davis covers. I mean it’s all really good and the diversity of songs you play in concert makes for a wonderful experience. Any chance that Watch the North Wind Rise returns to the rotation? Looking forward to the NYC shows.

    @Pat

I’m right there with you Pat. Nothing worse than a singer who’s not into it. I’ve always been about the performance.

    Jorma,
Hearing Bar Room Crystal Ball with Larry and Teresa gave me chills.

In addition, No More Hot Dogs is starting to grow on me. Thanks for that.

Congrats on 17 years of FPR. A very special place, for sure!

BRCB an all time favorite. So glad it made it to the new CD. I remember playing this up at the Full Moon Resort at one of the FPR On the Road weeks. You advised me back then that you were working on a new arrangement. Could that be 6 or so years ago? Anyway, I loved your new arrangement from the first time I heard it and it only gets better everytime you perform it. I can’t wait for the new tunes!

I’m sure you and the Tuna Gang and the FPR Gang and the Gang of lucky students will ROCK the Station and all that surrounds it this weekend.

Thanks for today’s Blog post. Good stuff.

As our generation looks back from the autumn of our lives we all seek the same thing – relevance. Some have it – others seek it out like Don Quixote chasing the impossible dream. We look to you for musical enjoyment and some pieces of relevance. We are so lucky we have you in our lives.

We’re looking forward to the new release, and so is everyone else who comes here!
The new version of BCB is bound to be interesting, although I think the words are pretty easy to decipher in the original, LOUD recording.
    One of my favorite songs.

Nice thoughts. Coincidentally, U. K. LeGuin talked about this today in her blog.

At 85 she still dazzles me with her brilliance, as do you.

Good morning! I understand the importance of communicating the story of the song, not just the performance of it. In fact, yesterday someone mentioned to me that they could not perform a song that made them emotional. I replied, “I see no point in performing a song unless it does.”. Be well-Pat
