Midnight Ramble At Levon’s

November 21st, 2010 Leave a comment Go to comments

Last night the Hot Tuna gang were invited to partake of the festivities at Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble. Originally it was just supposed to be me, but since Jack Casady and Barry Mitterhoff were there we figured, what the heck. We appeared incognito as Secret Squirrel and here is our set list:

Hot Tuna 30, 2010
Secret Squirrel Appearance with
Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady & Barry Mitterhoff
With Larry Campbell
Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble
Saturday, November 20, 2010

1. I See The Light
2. River Of Time with Larry
3. I Know You Rider with Larry
4. Things That Might Have Been with Larry
5. That’ll Never Happen No More with Larry
6. Izze’s Lullaby with Larry
7. Hesitation Blues with Larry

You might think it doesn’t get much better than that, but you’d be wrong. Barry sat in with the Ramble gang, then Jack and I went out for Trouble In Mind and Walking Blues… well, let’s put it this way, I could get used to having a horn section. We all came out for the finale and I got to sing the first verse of The Weight… Yeah, now we’re talking.

larry and Jack

Back in the studio today even after the late night… we have six tracks done and five have vocals. We’re moving on for sure. Tomorrow we hope to get two more songs.

…and now to bed!

Blessed the magic Night that might be echoing to the sound of Surphase Tension and Upfront Blues, turboprop Tuna’s rocket rocks on towards unfolding new vital adventures. High-beams dazzle down from the astronomical Rock & Roll Band, Rock is On, switched on for good. The wet Ocean wind lets loose fantasies by video & e-fanzine and Jorma’s 70th Birthday Celebration ‘like flying magnet’ pulls them Souls all in!
Rock is Hot and Hot Tuna is the Rock1
Blessed be these days, when the Tuna lays on new licks being a guarantee of hyper-kicks for new kids and groups of Hot Tuna hard dying old troups!
Tuna dance the one reason for existance!
Thanks Jorma and Jack and Barry and G.E. and Skoota! Always Thanks Jorma!

What’s on for November 22? Have you played the steel guitar lately? Or is that a Dobro? I saw you about twenty five or more years ago in a small bar in Poughkeepsie NY – great little show. I enjoyed that performance more than most. Hope to see you in NC more than near Durham. Quite a drive for a night. Maybe consider something near the largest city in NC – Charlotte. Great clubs here. The Fillmore – check it out. Lots of acts performing there. Great size venue. Saw Roger Daltry there and Tears for Fears. Wide variety of genre’s. Country too – Gary Allen. The Cult. I am not associated with marketing or anything with that place, just a thought. I have a few friends who own bars if you’d be interested in playing in a small private club. Ever hear of Bobby Donaldson? He’s a great guitar player around town how plays there on occassion. I guess you’re bigger than that though. Anyways. Hope to see you perform again! Happy Thanksgiving!
