To Infinity… And Beyond!

Hartford... part of the family tree

Hartford... part of the family tree

My Mom was born in East Windsor… not far from here. She was born in 1910… and grew up on a tobacco farm. My wife Vanessa, is from Southington… not far from here… my grandfather Ben (may he rest in peace) is buried in Ellington in the little Orthodox cemetery near the old Shul… my cousin Janice lives near here. The roots of my family tree lie deep in the soil of Connecticut. It was nice to be here for a day. I should come more often and pay my respects.

Jorma and Marty Brennan

Jorma and Marty Brennan

I was hanging with Marty Brennan and Ian Buchanan in New York City in 1960. If it weren’t for them… would wouldn’t be having this conversation… they taught me so much!

Now it’s off to Fairfield, Connecticut and Stage One.

Just think, Jorma…a Summertime Electric Tuna show in Tahoe. Your Mom put down roots there. It would be spectacular :)

    Just sayin’…

Wrap up the east coast leg of the tour and then a day off to travel to Texas for a few more dates then home. Makes me tired just looking at that schedule Jorma.

Most people don’t know that Connecticut makes the some of the best cigar wrappers in the world – I knew a girl whose father was a tobacco farmer. The secret is the good soil from the Connecticut River. Love the pictures.

Jorma, it’s great to see you and your friend Marty Brennan. You look very proud to be in his presence. The lineage that’s been passed on from Ian Buchanan, Marty, and yourself to aspiring musicians is priceless. I’m grateful you’re able to share time with him.
I was able to play a gig in a classy dive called Callahans in Santa Cruz last night. (My first one here since my move). A guy came up and complimentary mentioned your name. I was so proud to say that I’ve sat with you at FPR and been given some of your knowledge. I hope to help carry the torch.
    Peace

Great picture of Jorma and Marty. There’s a great picture of Marty and Charlie Barton from back in ‘57 around on the net. Speaking of that time period and artists, Judy Henske is recording some new stuff. That beat/folk period is still one of the greatest.

    Jorma And Barry,
Hope you had a good night in Hartford. We had a blast at Infinity and greatly appreciated your heartfelt music.Always have, always will.I had to laugh with your reference to The Sting and Molly Malones(poles included).I still think The Sting is the only venue where waitresses served ice cold beer from rolling grocery carriages.
    Truck my blues away
