Every day is a gateway to tomorrow

Indeed every day is a gateway to tomorrow so why should the 31st day of the last month of one year be any more meaningful than the first day of the first month of the next year? I guess it makes it easier for us humans to make sense out of the otherwise stochastic movement of life. We could probably pick any moment for this to happen, but our long time relationship with the Gregorian Calendar gives us a sense of order we can all easily share. Every year seems tumultuous and 2017 was no more so than any other. Life, death and the passage of time are always with us.

The small towns in Ohio were dressed in seasonal finery. I have been home for this holiday season and this is so rare I have treasured every day. As Dorothy said in the Wizard Of Oz, there is no place like home!

It was cold outside last night but warm in all our hearts as we visited Kevin Morgan and his wonderful family as we have for the last decade and a half. The kids are all growing up and we are all getting older and that is as it should be. Izze shamed us into staying there until the fireworks at midnight and it was more than all good. Our pal Grateful made a run to Michigan and got some industrial strength displays and the hills and hollers were bathed in sound and light. We didn’t get home until about 0100 or so which made it necessary for me to sleep in until 0700. That’s late for me when I’m home.

I never thought this ole body of mine would keep me from a HotTuna show .I just got out of the hospital a few days before the Vinoy show .Between the weather and my health I couldn’t make it.Right here in my own backyard .I’ve traveled across country to see you guys play. Taken all my children wchen they were young and grown to your shows. I had to stay home an listen to my own Hot Tuna show .Which was still made me feel good like your music always does. Be watching for my next chance .Maybe this summer at Fur Peace .Keep on Truckin Brooke

    Hi Jorma,

Happy 2018 to all of us. My new year is starting with a visit to the cardio surgeon for double by-pass surgery in a few short hours. It’s not an emergency, it was scheduled before the holidays, but daunting none the less. So if you should happen to be practicing today, a couple minutes picking Third Week would definitely help me through.

Bless you, Jorma. You’re an incredible human being whom has added so much more than music to my life.

This reminds me of part of a skit by a comedian I once saw.

He started it off by saying “And then there’s Scrabble.” For the next minute or so, he stared at an imaginary board and tray full of letters – even pretending to shuffle the letters in the tray. A

fter a pregnant pause he says, “Hmmm. Should I spell cat or dog.” @carey georgas

Becoming obsessive here. Kept digging and came up with the new word for the day: cyclogenesis. It’s there, in my Merriam Webster.

  9. Comment made on January 4, 2018 by carey georgas

I’ll be damned. Google ain’t no dictionary, but it can provide answers. A bomb cyclone is a meteorological term for a system that drops at least 24 millibars of pressure in 24 hours. Again, I come away from here with new knowledge. Wouldn’t have looked it up had you not brought it up.

Hey, Gregg, that sounds like news cycle marketing to me. I sure never heard it before this morning, and it was being used on damned near every news or weather report I turned to. You ever heard the term before? Can’t find it in my dictionary.

I spoke to Vanessa and she said there would be no public show on Sanibel due to contractual obligations…Bummer, I was hoping to maybe get Jorma to play at the local community center…

Good news is I just scored 5th row in front of the stage at Boca Raton…I’ve never seen Jorma play live…

    johno, your’re very close.
From Livingston Manor off Rt 17/Robin Hood Diner, go towards Lew Beach, passing the fire house on your right, and continue until you see a cage rock wall on your right, then make an immediate left. You’ll see a private trout hatchery immediately on your left. Go to the end of that road, and bear right up a dirt road towards Alder Lake. Go this spring. It is a beautiful place.
PS never climbed Slide Mountain, but 40 years ago I hiked from Alder Lake to Balsom Round Top.

Just love Beacon. Close to New Paltz the Catskills and Levon’s place near Woodstock. My place in the Western Catskills is near Roscoe. The Fly Fishing Capital of America. Really love country living.

One more day closer to the next trip to the ranch – today’s my son’s 11th birthday – fun times – Like you said every day is really a gift – I played a 1928 martin last night – my friend Dave Bernz owns a music store in Beacon and it was his dad’s – pretty nice sound – See you at Levon’s in March – best wishes to you and the gang – Jim

Right now is the end of all that has been.

Right now is the beginning of all that shall be.

Right now is the beginning and the end.

This is a circular, typically eastern view of time.

The western view of time is linear.

There is a beginning to all things.

There is an end to all things.

Right now is somewhere in between.

    Happy New Year
