I love that dog… and he loves the trash. This is what happens at our place when the trash doesn’t get docked behind a closed door. I look forward to getting home so I can give that dog a good talking to!

So far I’ve been able to give quality folks quality music… indeed. Now I find myself in Charlotte, N.C. where tomorrow I will play at the McGlohon Theater. I hear there’s more winter weather coming up North. Hope there’s more spring in New York by the time we get there in a couple of days.

Onward…

Saw the Melbourne gig…First time seeing Jorma live…Impressed…Jorma sits comfortably in his own soul on stage and you feel like you are present at a purposefully created moment…Especially up close in the 2nd row…

Jorma makes you understand why he plays acoustic because there are wood sounds, tones, and chording you can’t get out of an electric guitar…What Jorma is doing hails back to before there were electric guitars and it’s really where it all came from in the first place…

I got the sense that the music Jorma played was what he started out to do when he first started playing…Methodical learned guitar combined with a whole lot of blues tradition…Sort of like a destiny fulfilled and a myth lived…

Jorma closes or turns his eyes downward when playing probably because of the lights…Made me think of Blind Lemon Jefferson…He sustains a groan type sound after a verse almost like an ohm-like mantra…All part of the creation of the moment and entering of his music world…The crossroads from whenst it all first came…Summoning like the Tibetan monks…

Seeing Jorma is like experiencing an elder statesman of the craft who is as deep as the stain in his guitar and the cracks in the finish…

    @Brian Doyle
Congratulations Brian on your first Jorma show.
Deep soul. When I first saw Jorma back in 75′, I thought, If I ever learn to play the the guitar, it’s gonna be like that. Completely unique in the world of rock.
My first several shows were electric, but the techniques on many of the songs were of the fingerstyle. It showed me that you don’t have to emulate the pyrotechnics of many of the guitar heroes out there.
what a treat to still be able to enjoy his sweet, ever spontaneous creativity.
I loved your description, your observation of your experience.
    Keep coming back

First of all, Jorma, when you get home, Maverick is going to look at you with those loving eyes and you’re going to melt, we all do it with our family canine members.
In reference to above comments, 1st time I saw you was in 1980, was amazed by your playing, you were solo back then. Many years later I took my wife to see acoustic Hot Tuna at the Grange in Kent, CT. My wife just couldn’t get over how you and Jack played together and she commented to me she’d never seen two people have so much fun interacting and playing together.

What the dog hears when you are talking about the trash: “Blah blah blah Maverick blah blah blah blah Maverick…….”.
    Been there…..
BTW asked my wife why our dog (Cheex) gets a treat after he goes to the bathroom, but I get nothing. Life is unfair.

Since moving from NY to SC in 2015, it’s been a bit hard for me to catch any Tuna or Jorma. The Grey Eagle, though a 5 hour journey, was beyond a treat. Jorma, you are really at the top of your game. I get what you say about the area and Piedmont style – one day I’ll get there! A big hi, from all your friends in Bayside, NY!!

Sorry to hear. Seems democracy is on the decline and under attack. False charges of rigged elections and the press being the enemy of the people don’t help.
But encouraging to see the HS students in Florida getting involved. Reminded me of the 60’s.

    March 6th, 2018 at 13:49 | #10

@Andy K False charges of rigged elections and the free press being an enemy are the two greatest threats to democracy’s survival. History has too many examples of authoritarian rule attacking those two institutions off the bat when it wants to come to power.

    “I found out, animals don’t care…”

    Maverick’s adventure’s remind me of one of my favorite Talking Heads song, Animals;

“They wander around like a crazy dog
Make a mistake in the parking lot
    Always bumping into things
Always let you down, down, down, down…”

I laugh every time I hear the voice in the background saying, “Bad, bad, bad…”

@rich l “Why must I be like that, why must I chase the cat? Nothing but the dog in me…” From my favorite dog song….

    March 6th, 2018 at 17:24 | #15

I’ve never heard that song, but I am pondering the truth in those lyrics.

We had a big Akita and a cat at one time. I own the dreaded tri-level where it seems you spend most of your time going 6 stairs up, or 6 stairs down.

At any rate, the cat made a break from my son’s room down at the end of the hallway. The Akita went into full pursuit mode, approaching breakneck speed in a few strides. The cat nimbly darted through the wooden guard rail, and was on top of the stereo cabinet by the time big boy came spinning out of the turn.

Needless to say, I had to replace the dang guard rail! So Jorma should not get to upset about a little garbage on the floor; now the person responsible for cleaning it up, well that’s another story. I

‘m not so sure if it was the dog in him, or the cat just messing with his mind. @Steve Levenson

Maverick looks like one cool dog, full of energy. We will be getting our new dog this week.looking forward to it. One of lifes great challenges teaching a puppy right from wrong. So anyway We will have a large group of friends and family at the show in Riverhead. Nothing like a Jorma show right in our own backyard. Weather should be okay by Friday out east. We are getting another shot of winter today, hopefully this is the last of it. We will see you Friday and its sold out, right there.

    Jorma,

My beagle, gone to the great garbage can in the sky a year now, used to do the same thing.Better still, he could open the fridge and we had to put a screen door hook on the door!

Looking forward to seeing you play at Suffolk Theatre tomorrow.

    Peace
