I meant to have this up last week, but Aretha’s passing changed that. Anyway, better late than never.
Last weekend we were so fortunate to not only have the wondrous Dave Revels teaching for us here at the Fur Peace Ranch but on Saturday night last he brought his amazing Shadows Of The 60’s show to the Fur Peace Station. The musical director was Melvin Miller Jr. on guitar. I send you all to this site for all the amazing talent that made this show possible. Dave did not bring the horns on this gig, but he brought everyone else. The stage was really full… and it was truly awesome! Thanks to all of you… so very much!
Shadows Of The Sixties!
This was indeed a night of joy… and funk!
We sure look forward to haing them back again!

In 1984 as I was weaning my life away from California (It’s in the book) I played a gig at the old Tralfamadore Club up in Buffalo. They were renovating.’Do you want this old hand truck.?’ ‘You bet I do do,’ I said. I took it, threw it in my van and it’s been with me ever since. The other day I was loading copies of ‘Been So Long’ into the Company Store here at the Fur Peace Ranch and I just thought I wished that everything was this useful and lasted this long.
This weekend at the Ranch, I was not teaching but I wasn’t working either so I got to enjoy all the good stuff going on around here. Bryan Sutton was teaching and last night was his concert at the Fur Peace Station. This was yet one more awesome show for us.

You just can’t say enough about Bryan, his music and his band. They showed us all how it should be done! I also got to play a couple of songs with Bryan and the guys!
That’s pretty much up to date… and as always…
Onward!
Hello John B,
I met you at the Harvest Moon brew pub prior to that State Theater show in New Brunswick.
However, I didn’t buy you a beer, as you already had a full one. Was good to say hello.
@carlo pagliano Be well, my friend.
God Bless Carlo, sending nothing but good thoughts your way, smooth sailing.
Prayers for you Carlo and your loving family. When convenient for you and your family please let us know how everything went……..Hot Tuna will Rock em on High for Carlo!
All I can really say from this Hospital hosting me tonight for a delicate operation to my left carotid tomorrow morning where I have to be cooperative with the surgeons and well awake and talk and move during the operation itself, all I can really say is that I wish everything could run smooth to have me back in good shape for me little family and in time with a safe brain to read and ear Jorma’s last incredible effort. I wish all the beautiful bloggers of this holy page all my modest love. Thank You Jorma for the opportunity.
You and yours are in our prayers Carlo!!!!!
Jorma
@Andriy
Hot Tuna Tuesdays
May I recommend The Forgotten Hero of My Lai by Trent Angers. Hugh Thompson,Glen Andreotta, and Larry Colburn
@John B
Gentleman.?
Peace
Love All Ways ✌
I believe I met Mr Ham n Eggs at a Hot Tuna show at the State Theatre in North Brunswick NJ. He came up to me introduced himself and asked if I was John B. I confirmed that indeed I was one and the same. He was a fine fellow…..even a gentlemen and ended up buying me a beer and wishing me good cheer.
Not only did mr. and mrs ham’ eggs meet me: Barbara and they were in the restaurant where I work. Everything that Barbara ever wrote on here about me and the friend ship we have is all the truth every detail is true. I thank to heaven every day I was fortunate to be in Brooklyn this is where Barbara is my friend and show me America is a great country. My life here would not be good if Jim Hitchcock meets me and treats me like a piece of garbage.
Yes, “ there’s Carlo “. Carlo has all respect here for people post comments. Carlo does not try to make an immigrant to America feel like a piece of crap by saying that they do not exist. Carlo good for you, do not ever follow the way of the anti immigrant Jim Hitchcock. “ ham n eggs” will be happy to say to you he met me. a href=”#comment-38470″>@carlo pagliano
I am reading the book now thanks for the recommend. Jorma, this is an example of the good this blog comments section can be. Scroll past the childish nonsense of those they have nothing good to offer here.
There’s Carlo!
Rock Them All High Tonight Jorma!
Received my autographed Been So Long in the mail from FPR yesterday. Opened it up right away and couldn’t put it down for a hour. Made myself late for a date. This is going to be a “well whaddya know” read for sure.
@Tom Fabry Indeed he does. That’s why I’ll hold my copy close in hope our paths will cross again one day. It’s a long ways from Texas to Ohio.
@John R.
Well done. The author knows the value of looking someone in the eyes.
Thanks Carey G. I decided to cancel my Amazon order and get my signed copy from the man himself!
President Trump is in Ohio today. I hope he learns to keep his lamps trimmed and a burning.
Just talked to my local Barnes and Noble…….the book is in stock and on sale right now.
Just purchased Been so long on the website pre-order .Cant wait .Added a few great T-shirts also .Already a great day !! Peace and love to all and a very nice weekend !
@John R.
My Amazon Prime order gives my estimated arrival date 8-28. I’ll be out by my mailbox, askin’ Mr. Postman, please look and see is there a book, a book for me?
BEEN SO LONG the life and Times of Jorma Kaukonen, Jorma Kaukonen. The story of a Finnish artist and guitarist. Another must read in my opinion.
BORN a SOLDIER the Times and Life of Larry Thorne, J. Michael Thorne. The story of a Finnish patriot. A must read in my opinion.
ROFL Thank You!
@Tom Fabry
@johno
No trip to The Egg?
@johno
Amen
More than i could have ever asked for.
Thank you Jorma !!
I can’t wait for the book. I’m so proud of Jorma for doing all he does for us – his fans. We are very lucky to be a part of this. The whole book deal and seeing him live soon at Bethel, Bay Shore and the Beacon this year alone. This is all so wonderful. We are so lucky indeed to know the Captain.
@John B
Hydro Floss has a great water pick/oral irrigation effects unit to prevent gum recession. Mixed with eliminating white processed flower and sugar from diet and add some tumeric, should help preserve teeth. Works in any key, especially the key of life.
Ditto what Mitch said…….1955 here. Getting a bit long in the tooth…..what’s left of em that is….. @Mitch Spector
@Tom Fabry
Exactly !! My Heroe lol .Jormas the man .Love this page .
Jorma at the Tralf! I was there. But almost sure it was in 1983, not 1984. While I was in law school at the University of buffalo and living up there from 1981-1984.
Could a guest spot on the Jimmy Fallon show to promote his book be far behind?
@Mitch Spector
No idols allowed, just heroes, but I know what you mean… You are right Mitch… very nice to be a part of this….
It’s never too late to start doing the right thing.
This page is the coolest thing to me. I am so happy to be able to keep up with my idol ! Been with you my whole life starting in 68 ( I was born in 60) lol .Just want you to know i appreciate this Jorma .THANK YOU !! Peace & love
Advance copies of the book are already being shipped! This is killing me. Official release date not for another week, and estimated arrival (according to Amazon) not til Sept. 4. I need that book!
I had a feeling that Shadows of The 60’s – Tribute to Motown was going to be good. It was actually OUTSTANDING! Thanks!
This is all like the great big crescendo for Jorma. He runs a guitar camp, tours the country with Hot Tuna and writes a book about his extraordinary life.
All the stars in the galaxy are aligning for Jorma this year – 2018.
Gonna be a great year!
Great pictures ..good times .Peace Jorma ..
Cant wait for the book and the Scottsdale show .
Life is good indeed !!
Vintage hand truck. From back in the day when stuff like that was built to last. It’s a shame that planned obsolescence has filtered down to even the most basic tools. I bought a Chinese import a few years back and it was so lightweight I scrapped it. Hard to find those solid rubber wheels anymore. Keep on hand-truckin’!
Shadows of The 60s……..That is a show I am sorry to have missed……. When a knee throbs or the hip seems a bit stiffer then usual or I think ” Gheez I don’t remember that hurting before I remind myself how fortunate I am to have been born when I was……Music of course is one of the things that I am thankful for and Motown is right near the top of the list……Music has been my constant companion since I was just a little kid and I am heartened by the fact that bands like Shadows of The 60s are out their keeping it all going……
