…that I note our friend Paul Barrere passed today. I was playing a wedding tonight in Virginia and when I got back to the hotel, Vanessa called me with the news. There is never any good time for bad news. A couple of days ago I was in California for Robert Hunter’s funeral, and now this. It was nice to be at the wedding this evening surrounded by a feeling of beginnings… it is sad to witness an end. We were so blessed to have Funky Feat at the Fur Peace Ranch in June and it was an honor to sit in with the guys.

Here we all are at the Ranch in June in a happier time.

Fred Tackett, Jorma, Vanessa, John Hurlbut, Kenny Gradney and Paul Barrere

We’ll miss you Paul…

We had tickets two weeks ago at Louisville palace in the pit for Little Feat.Paul had quit the tour a few days prior,we elected not to go to the show not out of some ill founded protest ,but we felt that the essence of the band would be absent .Paul was the post Lowell George voice of the band and he played a mean slide ,quintessential little Feat.I first saw the band in 73 in DC,and Paul was already in the band.
He had a quick wit and was their orchestra leader.
We attended 7 Feat “fests”, in Jamaica ,two of which Hot Tuna and Jorma were in attendance .
The highlight of the 7 years was a Jorma/Jack collaboration with Feat on Come back Baby.
Paul poignant comment after the performance was it was like a 60’s FLASHBACK.
    Sail on.
    Roll another one

    RIPPaul

I was fortunate to see Little Feat several times over the years (post Lowell George) and they always put on a great show. And, i was blessed to be in attendance this past June for the Funky Feat show (first evening) at FPR. Paul and his LF brothers put on an awesome show that night. Paul was a heckuva great guitar player and a driving force for this iconic band. His spirit lives on.

Sorry for your, and everyone’s, loss Jorma. Thank you for live streaming their show from your ranch for anyone who wanted to watch. I was lucky to be one of the viewers. I hope that Mr. Barrere’s friends and family know that he brought this stranger joy that night!

Little Feat one of the truly underrated bands of our time. Sad to hear, but a reminder to enjoy everyday on the topside of the grass as a gift.

I started to think of some of the greats who have graced your stages then went on to the Angel Band:
John Hartford, Merle Saunders, Guy Clark…now Paul and I’m sure there are others. Meigs county is the Gateway to West Virginia, and that’s Almost Heaven. RIP. m

Thanks for your kind words and thoughts. I was privaliged to be at the Little Feat Excursion in Jamaica which you and Jack attended and performed at. You and Jack were quite gracious in indulging an old JA and HT fan with some conversation. I attended 16 of those excursions and will readily admit that the one you guys were at was one of the all-time best and personal favorites. We lost one of the greats last night…

I watched that show streamed live from FPR. “Spanish Moon,” was the encore!
    RIP.
