Indeed… no matter how you look at it, it is the end of the world as we know it, and hey… perhaps we should have all had a wider world view in the past but like it or not, it’s here now. At my age, I’m a bulls eye for COVID 19. There are more cases that have yet to be diagnosed than we can imagine. That’s just the way it is. Will, we get through it as a global population? Of course we will but right now I don’t think it’s going to be easy and it’s not going to be quick. Well, I’m sure we’ve all been watching the news so you don’t need me to tell you what you already know. For me, kudos to our Governor Mike DeWine… right now Ohio is one of the states leading the way. Most of us are doing our best. Some are still whistling in the grave yard. We’ll see who fares better as things evolve.

Now, life doesn’t grind to a halt just because stuff is happening we don’t like. Living in a sparsely populated area as we do we figured what better time to take a scenic walk while one still can. Time for a trip to Cedar Falls.

Nature... still beautiful!

I’ve lived here for almost thirty years and I’d never been to Cedar Falls before.

Now this was a couple of days ago and much has happened since then… I’ m these relatively peaceful moments!

The Desiderata just never seems to go out of fashion!

Wait a minute… I did do it all day!

Well, I’m guessing none of this is going to go away quickly no matter how much I would like it to. In the meantime love your neighbor, albeit from a distance if necessary, hold your family close and keep your powder dry!

An eminent voice of reason speaks! Your trip to the falls is the perfect metaphor for this time. Awareness of the peril at hand, without losing awareness of the beauty that still surrounds us. That kind of wisdom is one of the reasons I like checking in here.

Galatians chapt 6 verse 7. Reap what you sow brah….. but while we are still here we can repent and make reparation, and don’t plant ice.

Some articles have been written that all this is a death sentence for globalists.

Yes, yes, if you plant ice you’re gonna harvest wind. What would Hunter, Garcia, Marley, Lennon, Harrison want to sing and write for us now, from their current perspective, if they indeed have one.

here is something Brother George wrote in his youth, well before his passing.

    You don’t need no passport
And you don’t need no visas
You don’t need to designate or to emigrate
    Before you can see Jesus
If you open up your heart
    You’ll see he’s right there
    Always was and will be
He’ll relieve you of your cares

Chant in the name of the Lord and you will be free… No harvesting wind

    Blunt the peak.

PS Jorma, 1 of the two New York deaths was in Suffern, a town you reference in your recent book. I believe you did some recording in Suffern.

Sounds like our president finally woke up today and realized that this wasn’t a hoax. It’s about time he started sounding like what the public health officials have been saying for a couple of months now.
Fortunately, our country has seen the experience that other countries have had. Unfortunately, unlike 60 other countries we didn’t except the testing kits from the world health organization. We got our own, and they turned out to be faulty. Now we are playing catch-up and obviously the more people who are tested, the more cases we will see.
Let us all get together right down here and let us weather this storm.

Glad you got out in the sunshine and fresh air to revitalize. It’s going to be tough for performing musicians everywhere for a while. Hang in there! We had tickets to see you in Corvallis, OR and I got ready for the talk/show by reading your autobiography. I hope you’ll be able to make it some time in the future. The way Ohio makes governors, it’s no wonder so many presidents have come from there. I’m basically a yellowdog, but I might have voted Kasich in ‘16, and DeWine is doing mighty fine in his capacity during this crisis. Is it the water?

Thanks for the spirited reminder of the great song by George ;Awaiting on you, thanks for the refresher.
Let’s get off the virus and take a trip down memory lane.
I’d speculate that at least 40% of those on this blog are from NY metro area.
Growing up in CT.i had good fortune to go to shows in NYC and environs .
Although I couldn’t procure tickets to Bangladesh concert ,nor the Band at the academy of music,we attended 100’s of east coast shows ( went to school outside of DC).
Several days before George’s concert at MSG , Stephen Stills and Manassas graced the garden stage (Go Chris Hillman), great show ,anybody in attendance?

Here’s the $64,000 question ,Garcia and Howard Wales did a winter tour”Hooterroll”, I attended show in NYC but
I cannot recall the venue, anybody out there?
As the Dead were in high gear and we attended every show we could from Boston to DC ,this show left me non plussed(way too vague), at the time we were just starting to go to Jazz and fusion shows ,but Hooteroll wasn’t that and in my simple mind didn’t fire.
In any case anybody remember the show?
    Where was it?

    @Greg martelli
Hi Greg, greg here. checking the garcia site, they list a show at the Academy of Music on Jan. 21, 1972. Good call on getting off on the virus thing. ( although important). I suspect that I’m a little younger then you but my first Jorma show was at the Blue note in Boulder just a couple of blocks from the Boulderado Hotel. Jorma came through Boulder about three or four times a year and played the Blue Note solo till 1983 or so. It was wild and I loved what was going down. When I got back to the east coast in 1984, I found our Jorma was playing everywhere. The rest is history. Saw electric tuna and the Garcia band at the the old Rainbow theatre in Denver as well.

  30. March 17th, 2020 at 18:21 | #30

    That makes sense
Caught the Dead at the academy for a “Swell dance concert” or was it Manhattan ballroom.
In any case shared some wine with some Hippies before the show and the result in retro was predictable.
I thought Pigpen was Elvis presley

Took my evening bike ride on Sanibel…Florida is a free rights state so the restaurants were open with people sitting outside at the tables…Others were biking and walking…They’re not crazy down here either so that should change pretty soon since the nationwide infection rate is following a classic epidemic profile and is currently spiking…The local supermarket said all hand sanitizer and soap is being commandeered to hospitals by local directive…I’ve got to get me some alcohol-based hand sanitizer…I called around and am not going to give away my trade secrets on that but I think I might score some…Same for toilet paper – which, if you use your imagination, is not a high priority…Commercial suppliers said they have plenty and are not going to stop delivering…Might put a palm branch on the front door that my house be passed over..

I missed above….did catch, Garcia Band, Elephants Memory and Bo Diddly on a boat w around 100 Hells Angels sailing around Manhattan island in 1976..Its on youtube… Pirates Ball. Dicey scene. No place for a High School kid.

Saw Wings in 76. McCartney’s voice and youth still roaring.

Dylan in 1978 on the Alimony Tour at the Garden.

Hot Tuna in 75 in Central Park. Rough scene there.

Jorma and Jack on Jorma’s driveway at the Garage Sale show just before the big move west….. I even video taped it…
Dylan in 92 w Harrison, GE, Ronnie Wood, Danko, Stevie Wonder, Petty, Neil Young, McGuinn, Johnny Cash and many others.. First song of the night was Gotta Serve Somebody…it was sort of a sound check by Booker T and his band. GE certainly ripped it up. He head a great band. He told me it was the highlight of his music life.

Jorma at The Red Rail and Turning Point in NY and just off St. Clare Road in Ohio.

Blunt the Peak. Everybody stay w the program. Pray for ghettos around the world that they are protected somehow. Do what you can do

Shelves are stripped of Rubbing Alcohol down here…I spoke to someone…I hope it works…We are all stuck going to the watering holes for food…

I read that 1918 Spanish Influenza victims survived at higher rates if placed in fresh air and sun…My Norwegian great grandmother died in that one leaving my 17 year old grandmother as the caretaker for a large family…Her brother also died in that one…On my father’s side my grandfather’s brother also died in that 1918 outbreak in Pennsylvania…

Ran up to the tower over Mohonk today – they’re closed but it was beautiful -stay safe, wash hands – love my Flammang – it’s the best steel string guitar I’ve ever played – what a gem! – No one to play it for except my kids though – oh well – we’re in for a long night –

If you can’t find rubbing alcohol
Go to paint store ,if diluted you can substitute any one of a number of products ,they’re are 3-4 including alcohol that they should have on shelf .
I’d try to stick to alcohol based instead of solvent based.
“This product has been known to cause cancer in the state of California “
I’ve always found that a curious assertion, the only place in the world that certain product are KNOWN to cause cancer is the state of California .

My plan to get to CVS early failed because no hand sanitizer came in on the truck…What Jerry’s Supermarket told me must have been true and all hand sanitizer is being diverted to hospitals…I managed to score some Clorox wipes but only 1 to a customer…Have to safari to Costco now to try to get toilet paper and paper towels (and food)…They closed the beaches here today with giant barriers…Found a saw dust respirator mask in the garage…In the movie ‘Mars Attacks’ western yodeling music killed the aliens…Lord keep the bugs from my breath…

    65 in NY on Friday.

    Happy Spring.

    Everybody do their part.

Average age of death is 81 from 1 stat I read…

Hoping for a hopeful announcement today at 11ish. NYC talking about using Javits Center and or Madison Square Garden, colleges and hotels…..

All will be well, even as we are transitioning.

Need to decouple from China in many ways…Is it true they make 80% of our meds? Cheap TVS, Expensive Flu.

Brother Rodney King, “can’t we all just get along.”
