Getting And Episode #5

So with this time at home, I’ve been listening to the old stereo… tubes and everything:

The old Marantz pre-amp

The pre is a great place to start for vintage stuff… Here’s the next stop on the signal path:

The Austin and Michaelson TVA-1 by Tim Paravicini… Check it out. 75 watts a side… 80 pounds… NIve.

Last but not least, the old JBL 4312’s.

Oldies, but Goodies

And… even after 30 years, one of the best high end D to A converter CD players ever made.

Alloy CD tray... nice.

The new Rega turntable does the job quite nicely… nice way to spend stay at home time.

I’ve been a working musician for over fifty years. Why wouldn’t I be able to afford the equipment I need?

Nice JBL’s! I still have my L100’s, the home version of yours. Had to have the woofers reconed a few times back in my college days.

cuz you was barely gettin by? heh heh

I was in Guitar Center a few weeks before they became inaccessible, evaluating acoustics, tryin to get by with less, and I played this Epiphone – turned out to be like a boom-box! Was about the fattest one they had there, rang out real nice seemed to me – even was good compared to the Martins and Taylors they had there – for $400 or so – should I have bought it?

Then lookin at the wall of electrics, maybe cuz it was in arm’s reach (no need to bother the staff to get up on the ladder, besides they all looked good, and I knew not where to start), I sawz this Gretsch hollow body (maybe all G’s are hollow I don’t know that much) with that big tail-piece and tremolo arm, and thought maybe I could play like Neil Young – like the random attack psycho-blues guitar method. Plugged it into a Vox amp – full gain but controlled (not to make too much a spectacle of myself) volume, and it sang – never mind Neil – Billy Gibbons on the screaming hollow-body!

Tom, even if you are gonna be “just sayin” with The Orangeman – shouldn’t you at least try to make sense about it? How is it that I “make up my own rules”?

Once again, this blog has been taken hostage. A most selfish thing.
