The little National Resophonic

Photo and layout by Myron Hart

So a number of years ago, and I mean back in the 80’s, someone gave me this little National 3/4 size student grade guitar in its original cardboard case. it was a complete basket case so as I was flying home to New York where I lived at the time, I just checked it into baggage and figured that if it made it to the baggage carousel on the East Coast it was destined to live with me which it did in pieces for many years. I gave it to my buddy Myron some years ago after I moved to Ohio and figured that if anyone could do anything with this sad case, it would be him.

Fast forward to today:

I heard Myron play some slide on this little jewel through an ancient tube amp that used to belong to his aunt. I sounds awesome. This is a good example of why you should never throw anything away!

Moving right along…

Don’t miss this one!

Now, I’m in New Jersey playing the Vogel Tomorrow and Sunday for a total of four socially distant shows. If I weren’t it would either be live or I’d be on the chat feed.

Enjoy. Remember if you’re somewhere near Red Bank, come see me play.

Great job by MH. I have a very similar looking solid body Res made by Beard Guitars from Maryland. I brought it with me to FPR a few years ago, I never knew it was a copy of this National. I can’t wait to hear Myron work it over.

Back in about ’93 or so Jorma and Jack were on a Gibson promotional tour going from town to town demo’ing Gibsons new Nighthawk at Guitar Centers. I attended the Dallas store demo. Jorma and Jack took the customary Q&A from the small gathering at the conclusion of the demo and a shop employee handed Jorma an identical electric National Reso to riff on unplugged for a few moments. It was cool to see and hear Jorma play something other than the usual at the time. This was about when Jorma obtained the amber and the blue so called star guitars and probably a flintlock as well from Ren Ferguson. Just some more guitar geekery for ya.

Guitar geek here.very cool endeavor.will this be strictly for slide,or can it be fretted with semi true results? Myron?

Jorma here… it has very heavy strings on it right now, but it can still be played fretted and sound great. It’s a really cool little axe.

Great story by you and Myron! Can’t wait to hear that guitar at FPR some day…maybe…hopefully. Anyway, glad you are out on the road and playing live and fighting the BS and kicking against the oppression! Any chance you can FB livestream any/all of those shows? Stay safe and sound Brother Jorma and keep on keepin’ on!
