I have a very large family indeed, Vanessa corralled over a hundred of them and totally surprised me last night with countless video well wishers between songs. I was more than moved and pretty much at a loss for words. Great gratitude to Vanessa and all the folks who answered her call.

    Happy Birthday Jorma!

It’s hard to believe 10 years have passed since celebrating your birthday at the Beacon. Somewhere among my many photos of HT shows is the pix I took of Phil presenting you with the multicolored airplane cake.

So grateful for you, your music, HT and all the people on both sides of the stage that have enriched my life as a result.

    Love and birthday hugs,
    Sally

80 YIKES to you Jorma. The show on Saturday was stupendous. The Quarantine Concerts have been a window into your amazing life. I am so thankful you remain such a vital part of the music scene. Next month will be the 50th anniversary of my first Hot Tuna show (January 1971 at the Fillmore East). I can still hear Feel So Good echoing off the ceiling of the Fillmore as you guys blew the roof off that night. You are the best. Happy birthday!

I/We have enjoyed listening to your music for over 50+ years. Seeing you perform many times as well.
It started with just some friends driving to multiple shows in the NY/NJ/PA area to bringing my future Wife to a show in 83 to having our Son meet up with us in NYC the last few years.
Your Quarantine Shows have given us to a better incite of the Man you are. God Bless & Keep on Truckin.

    good morning Jorma
I wanted to wish you a very happy birthday today and thank you again for the quarantine shows. I hope your birthday is fantabulous spent with your wonderful family. the tributes you received are a certainly a testament to you. I dont think there was a dry eye in the house until Chester sang to you!! You are so very blessed and that is priceless.
Its been great getting to (virtually) know you and Vanessa as a couple. I feel as if I am invited into your home each and every week for amusing banter and song. I was at the 70th birthday show at the Beacon, and actually can spot myself on the DVD cover!! that is a very exciting thing for the lunatic fan that I am and have been for 45+ years. As for so many you have saved my soul from this very tough time we are all going through. I thank you, Vanessa and all the FPR staffers for your gift to us all. Happy Birthday, merry everything and happy new year peace & love!!

Happy Birthday! Jorma, and Happy Holidays to everyone back at the Ranch! Thankyou so much for the Quarantine concerts. these concerts have become the means by which I measure time! Haven’t missed one yet. OMG “The Ballard of Easy Rider”! Love Frank’s idea of a “Geek Fest”. Thankyou you so much for what you are all doing. First thing I am gonna do on Christmas morning is download ” The River Flows”.

Happy Birthday Jorma – thank you for so many years of beautiful music. You’re one of the main reasons I wanted to learn to play acoustic guitar over 40 years ago – at the time most people I knew were only playing electric. Thank you and God Bless!

Vanessa is a gem, bless her.

  42. Comment made on December 22, 2020 by Frank

    Jorma,

Happy 80th Birthday. Since you like to surround yourself with your guitars on stage, would it be possible to do a question and answer on your current inventory, guitars you played in the past, and maybe show us the guitars that rarely make the stage during an up coming concert. Sort of a Geek Fest, I am sure many people would enjoy.

I thought it was a great show and a fantastic tribute to one of the greatest fingerpickin guitar players out there. I didn’t really realize just how much influence you had on my early years of my guitar playing but I know how much you will influence my next 20 years of playing. Vanessa, Thank you for taking such great care of Jorma and thank you for sharing him with us. God Bless both of you and the whole crew down at the Fur Peace Ranch.

Great show on Saturday night. Nice to see all those who spoke about Jorma in a glowing light. You know Jorma as I watch you get up & move to get your Guitars you remind me of my Grandfather. He was tall man who till the age of 90 walked 5+ miles every morning in retirement. He would spend his days working on his cars. Only one lasted as long as him. 1930 Model A that was still going at the time as of his passing when he was 96.My older Brother got that car & drove it everyday in Maine till he sold late ’80’s.

Also today Frank Vincent Zappa would have been turning 80. From 1971 to ’77 I don’t know who I saw more often Frank or Tuna. Frank on Halloween Felt Forum & Tuna at the Academy of Music. An that was just in the NYC scene.

    • Comment made on December 21, 2020 by Jorma

Hi Bruce… thanks for the B’day wishes. Jack was out here in Ohio for a month and a half and we did all those shows together. Now I have learned to never say never, but I talk to Grace periodically and she does not travel and has no desire to perform… so far. It’s always nice to hope but I’m not holding my breath. Stay well!

Agreed it was an emotional evening for me as well.
Jorma has meant so much to my life. Seeing all those tributes (I liked GE Smith’s the best), and pondering the miracle that we all still recieve the gift of his music after all we’ve been through.
    I don’t take it lightly.
I’m so grateful Jorma, for the day you were born.
