First of all… there have been questions about the lovely rose on the entry about the Psylodelic Museum opening. It is a real rose. The folks who make them inject some sort of dye into the stem while they are growing. It’s really pretty cool. I didn’t buy that rose so although I know it’s grown locally I don’t know who does it. Onward…
Heading down to the beach in Old Orchard
My time here at the beach house has been in and around gigs, but it’s been delightful nonetheless. Since I’ve been in Maine, it’s been raining and very temperate with a few moments of sun… still and all, it is a summer house on the beach.

There have been times for walks and it is lovely! Of course, there was a trip to the amusement park ‘downtown.’

Tomorrow, the players head out to California for our gig at the Rio Theater on Saturday and then on Sunday up to the Mendocino Music Festiva in Mendocino and then back to Ohio on Monday morning.

Jorma- that’s great that you have family connection in Maine having your wife’s family living in Saco! Did you know that the mosquitoes are sometimes referred to as ‘Maine’s State Bird’ by both Mainahs and Flatlandahs?? We have a handful of cabins on our ‘dirt’ road up north at the pond which is near Augusta and closer to China– since most of our neighbor friends all play instruments with some ‘vocalization’ we put together a jam session every Memorial Day time frame. I wish I could share a photo or two for you to see on here and you’d understand why we call ourselves the ‘Anything Goes DP Band’ –nothing better than playing music in the setting of pine trees and the breezes of the pond!! Have you experienced ‘muddin’ season yet in Saco? 🙂 Carole–
Jorma- hope you’ll have a chance to read my note here letting you know that seeing you @ Clearwater on the Hudson regenerated a spirit of rejuvanation with being in my element as remembered years ago– my gratitude to you and your music for this! I grew up and lived in Croton-on-Hudson for about 25 years and spent many a fun times at ‘the River’ as it was referred to back then. Looking at the photos of the location where you played in Croton for the private party leaves me stumped although it reminded me of 3 possibilities from when I lived there,, Silver Lake, Croton River, or Black Rock.
As a post-script,, I was in Maine the exact same time frame as you did Jonathan’s!! I wish I
had known you were doing a gig there prior to going up North. My 1st intro to Maine was Ogunquit– and now own a cottage on an 88 acre pond a tad further north of OOB. We love it
My wife’s family lives in Saco… we try to get up there once a year. Beautiful… big mosquitoes though.
Would help if I reminded you of how we know each other…Manila, P.I. circa 1959!!!!
Jorma, lost track of you over the years, saw you and your brother years ago at that little club in Sayreville, NJ. Looks like you’ve had an extraordinary career. Found this site thru the State Theatre of NJ website, where I see you’re playing this Sat. with Leon Russell, who wrote one of the most beautiful songs ever (A Song for You). I’m going to try to be there. All the best!

The Dire Wolf is not a Tuna, nor is a Moose.
Most people have only seen a moose on Bullwinkle cartoons, however they and the Dire Wolf (and Tuna) are wildlife.

Back around 30 years ago, I saw a Dire Wolf at a friend’s cabin in the Maine woods.
His grandpa, father and uncles had been seeing them for decades in that remote location.
No cell-phone camera to whip out and photograph it.
Just look at it and wonder: “WHAT IS THAT?”

Yes i went to PNC . The rain was ferocious wasn’t it ? It was a good show ; though i stayed for just the first set. Too tired for the second. I may go to the Mann tonite for set two. Bitter End sounds interesting .
8 and a half, drive all night to beat traffic from Boston. Ocean is beatiful but the mountain lakes are better.@John B

Real roses you say ! Wow that is really extroidinary Jorma. That is one of the oddest things that i have ever seen. Thanks Barb for being so persistant in getting to the bottom line on those roses. If someone ever asks me about the one thing i remember about Barb i would have to tell them that “It must have been the Roses.”
Looks like good times! That’s gotta be a long flight from Maine to Calif! None the less really looking forward to the show at the Rio.
