This one's for you Bob

This one's for you Bob

My friend Bob Abrams passed away a day or so ago and I offered this letter in his memory”

Dear Bob:

Jorma Kaukonen here. I know it’s been a couple of years since we talked and now of course, it’s too late for you to pick up the phone. My fault as always. I have always thought of you fondly over the years. We go back a long way. I remember meeting you at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA before you moved to California. Seems like a lifetime ago, and if course, it is. You were always a mensch and your family and friends have been so lucky to have had you as long as they/we did. May you rest in peace and as Rev. Gary Davis would say, ‘May you play in that heavenly band.’ Now I know that you and I are both Jewish. That said, I am going to recommend a Vince Gill song in your honor. Yes, I know there is a lot of Jesus in the song, but for me it is a message of devotion and honor. The song is ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain.”

You deserve the rest my friend.

Fair wind and following seas brother!

Jorma

Thanks so much for writing that. Bob was such a good hearted guy. I wish I had saved some of the messages he left on our answering machine. He was indeed a mensch! Peace…

    Nice thoughts.

RIP Bob, I remember him from the mailing /trade lists. Super nice guy, to say the least. I always looked forward to his discussions, bar none.

I was going to link some music to my friends in anticipation of your last show this weekend in my hometown, but decided to go with the blog because of the smiles and warm remembrances such as this. Smooth sailing this week to everybody who makes it happen.

The question ; “What is the meaning of life ?” The answer ; To serve God ; and enjoy him forever .” Your friend Jorma has moved on to the second part of the answer. Thank you for sharing with us .

Sincere condolences, Jorma. As we get older, it gets more frequent, and it’s never easy. Peace, brother.
