Took a bucket list trip to Martin Guitar factory & Bethel to see Tuna for the 4th time. Jorma & Jack were kind enough to take a picture & sign their names for me before the show. What an honor to meet my musical idols. They could not have been nicer. Hesitation Blues & I Know You Rider!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my favorites. I think the guys have been practicing a lot, they were fantastic. They played 44 years ago & promised to return to Yasgur’s farm 44 years from now. Are tickets available yet??? Thanx Jorma for a fantastic bucket list trip.
Michael Hot Tuna does indeed come and play in Italy. So keep a sharp eye out on the Tuna website and i hope that in the very near future you and all of Italy will be treated to the magic that is a Hot Tuna performance! @Michael

The event at Bethel Woods was magical! Reminded me of times in The Village when the artists would play til midnight and then spill out into the streets and gather other musicians and jam till the early am.

When the original took place I remember how I couldn’t wait for the nightly news and daily paper to tell me all about it. I want to help on the subject of malts and shakes. I want to acknowledge upfront that I know everybody has their own tastes but being from Wisconsin we have dairy products coursing through our veins and so the classic shake and malt deserves some explanation. First of all please do not use “soft-serve” or frozen custard. Ice cream only and whole milk not 2% or skim. Many people make the mistake of thinking a milk shake is just like a malt but without the malt powder. A milk shake should always be thinner than a malt. Think of it this way, drink a milk shake and suck a malt through a straw. The Hamilton does a great job on malts but a little less so on shakes. Put your shake ingredients in the big metal cup and put a lid on the cup. Shake it all around holding the lid on. The ice “melts” and mixes into the milk as you shake. If you have the mix right you should have real thick milk with foamy little bubbles. You can top it with whipped cream if you want but please use the real thing made just before you make your shake. You can linger over a malt but a shake starts to break back down if you wait too long over it. A malt can be as thick as you want but use real good malt powder it makes a huge difference because the cheap stuff is just sort of like malt flavor. If it’s you and a date you can make two shakes, one for each, or make one malt, grab two straws and put a dollar in the jukebox.

John B: Funny that you mentioned Ellenville. When I was about 4 or 5 our family used to go up there for the summer to a bungalow colony, and our family had an account at the store, and i used to think if you go buy stuff there and say “charge it” you didn’t have to pay for it. LOL.

Tuna certainly was blessed with some beautiful weather for the show in Woodstock . Sorry i missed that one . Thats a terrific venue that they have there and i hope one day to catch you guys there. Beautiful country .
I actually bought a milkshake doo-dad a few weeks ago…steel cup & all. We are still working on the ideal ice cream/milk ratio, but we figured out real fast the syrup has to go in last, otherwise it sinks to the bottom & doesn’t mix in well.
