Dawn's early light
Foto by Ginger Gagne
On a farm down the road from ours dwells my sister in law, her son and her exchange student from Brazil. They are accompanied by a gaggle of dogs and cats and the like. As she was heading to work at the hospital yesterday morning she took this shot of the old Carlton Church. I have seen this view a number of times myself, but my camera just never seems to be ready or if it is I just don’t have the time to stop and take the picture. This church dates back to the very early 1800’s. There are pictures in the local museum of full immersion baptisms there. This is probably something no one would want to do today as there are cattle upstream. Jardia here we come. That said, it is still beautiful. I shot the cover of my Stars In My Crown album there. It is high on a hill, peaceful… and of course every Sunday, there are cars down down to the road. Sunday in the country… beautiful!
I just was thinking, as we age sometimes it seems as if G_d takes away more than he gives… and of course that is as it should be. I have been given much and there is no justifiable reason to complain. But sometimes, at least for a moment, it just seems as if all is right with the world.
Have a great day! I plan on doing the same!
We definitely become more conscious of loss. But there’s a payback! It comes hand in hand with a greater appreciation of what we have now. Once you understand that everything can and will be taken away, you look at each person, and each morning differently. As Warren Zevon said, ‘Enjoy every sandwich’. That was wisdom.
By the way, Jorma, the photo of Izzie in the saddle of the ATV, with you leaning at stage right, is maybe the best photo you’ve ever posted. From the look on her face, I will not be getting in the way of that ATV.
hey Jorma been away upstate for a couple days, the picture is majestic..perfect for a sunday afternoon. Just keep asking and the blessings will keep coming. Keep your lamps – Keep right on praying. And if by perchance a little cow dung did come downstream, a little bit never killed anybody…
Before the breathin’ air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the nighttime
Out where the rivers like to run
I stand alone and take back somethin’ worth rememberin’
Thanks to Paul Williams and Roger Nichols for that.
You gotta’ love Carlo!
He’s a real Italian: poetry and passion.
Hot Tuna’s Rock
Boulder stocks.
Rock Them all real high tonight Jorma!
@phil zisook
I know Phil, I don’t get them like that on my IPhone either! however, I have seen people get really great shots on their IPhones! I tend to think I am not so great at the picture taking, but Ginger sure got a great shot, and Jorma was kind enough to share it with all of us!!
I have a flash drive that I thought all my pictures were saved in. But so far
cannot access any of them. I had so many nice pictures like that. I love pictures of pretty sunsets. Nice picture!
@cyndy consentino
I never get pictures like that on my iphone. That’s amazing!
The moment is always enough and always has been.

Love the photo.
Iphones actually take really great pictures if you know how to use them.
Gratitude is the key.
Oh, that is a beautiful photo!
A Shavuot sunrise.
I’m curious what kind of camera that shot was taken with. I’m guessing it wasn’t an iPhone.
It was an iPhone Phil… go figure…
She was no doubt on her way to perform another day of selfless acts for those folks infirm and less fortunate. The beauty revealed was G_d’s way of saying thank you.
The photo is great and the blog comments carry the magic forward. A great message. Thanks
Remember, everyone is downstream from some cattle if you look far enough up the river…
Ahh, a breath from the hills of home.
Cheers and back at ya from Beijing, Jorma.
Thanks and great of you Ginger!
No earthly painter could ever think to imagine such an astonishing sky.
For an equalization account there could be a redistribution, every day I pull out of myself more than what I did put in, it’s a miracle, and now is to show to deserve that, it’s a responsibility I should have taken over my shoulders long time ago, but it would have been like picking a kaki in September.
The Tuna is frisking.
Rock Them to the shore Jorma!
Steady As She Goes.
Sometimes it does seem that way, and I know that there is a lot more that is part of my yesterday than will be part of my tomorrow. But as I age I become more aware of the richness and variety of life (both good and bad) and I think that creates a nice balance. Life and G-d are wonderful, even when they make me sad.
A quote from an early Mothers of Invention album-“God…it’s God…I see God!” I think it was meant to be sarcastic, but when you see beauty like that, it’s hard to deny there isn’t something else goin’ on, besides what we see & hear. Thank you for that photo.
By the way, Jorma, to me,”Stars in my Crown” might be your best solo album. I hope you keep bringin’ out “Heart Temporary” on a Regular basis. Hope to seeya soon. Much love
Dear Jorma,
