David Weiss RIP

My friend Jerry and I have dedicated a memorial 9/11 run every year to my departed buddy David Weiss. David worked at Cantor Fitzgerald and vanished from this earth twelve years ago when the first plane struck the World Trade Center. A monsoon swept through our tri county area today and so the ride didn’t happen… perhaps this weekend. Anyway, we all lost so much and so many that day that day. I think of Tom Kelly, firefighter… gone with honor… I think of my friend Bob Kelly still with us… a first responder survivor of that day. I remember it all well…
Forever etched in my memory... with love and respect
So much changed that day and is still changing. Another year passes and I believe we are stronger but we must never forget!
We are challenged to hold this moment in our hearts
What difference can it possibly make?
It makes a great deal of difference to me.

Thanx Jorma. As a native “New Yawker” Nine Eleven will always be a tough day for me. My fifth grade teacher took us on a field trip up to the observation deck of WTC in 1974. The twin towers were always a hallmark of the NYC skyline. When I see them in old TV shows/movies I get a lump in my throat. Despite what our politicians tell us…..it makes a big difference. It has made a big difference in my life and the lives of everyone I know. This event crystallized my views and attitudes. It has shaped the way I look at the world and made me change my career and life goals. I shall never forget.

I have been going there since the age of 5. Many many fond memories of that place . I could see the smoke from across the bay. @Barbara Jacobs
That was a big, bad fire. The wind and the tar roofs of the adjacent shops kicked it up into an inferno.
Horrible to watch it on T.V news.

Where is Barbara when you don’t need her. LOl. I don’t want to know the answer to that and will be sorry i asked. And if I am not sorry i will be embarrased to have asked in the firsy place. I still think all this is planetary, And that the boardwalk is symbolic of somthing that others want to destroy fot reasons unknown, But will be rebuilt.

I love peace. But also I know their is a dark side to me that does love the opposite of peace. But then I did not destroy the boardwalk so… why am I defending myself.(I ask)

We lost our boardwalk again yesterday. Almost one year ago Sandy washed away a good chunk of it and yesterday a fire ravaged six blocks of boardwalk and consumed over twenty businesses .

Dear Jorma,
Truly sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, those were the true hero’s, so many lost so much that day. Sorry the weather held up your ride to honor him but you should get some more nice days to ride before you have to put it away for the winter. I thought you might have been one of the bike’s that was heading down to Washington, the picures of all those bike’s was overwhelming, one of the many reasons I am so proud to be an American. You are so right when you said we must NEVER, EVER, FORGET…….

horrors like 9/11, pearl harbor, ram-sacking of Constantinople, not to mention a few blows we have dealt out, take the challenge of forgiveness to a whole other level. forgiveness is the hardest thing we are ever asked to do, and the most important in terms of our own cosmic consciousness imo. Thanks Jorma for the kind thoughts..We just returned from a day of services..the last event was the memorial out in Riverhead,,it sits on Sound ave. &Thomas Kelly drive..Id like to extend an invite to all our Jorma/tuna family if they are ever out in eastern Long Island,, stop by and sit in this special place..it took a lot of work on so many levels tomake this happen,, but its for all..and sits in a beautiful spot..So thanks again, oh yeah we played a favorite prayer of Tommys and mine on the ride home..”good Shepard” some sweet music indeed..thoughts and meditations go out to your friend David from Cantor,,who worked with one of my closest friends Charlie Waters..who also has never been recovered..be well Jorma regards to the family..will try to say hi when you are in NYC

I’m still dealing with health problems, resultant of my weeks of volunteering at the Ground Zero site.
I remember, every day: the friends that I lost and the surgeries that I’ve had, since things started showing-up, around ten years after.

Thanks for the 9/11 post Jorma. Here at the Jersey Shore it hit very close to home. The smoke drifting down the shoreline and leaving an ugly black stain along the horizon is a sight never to be forgotten. A seemingly endless line of huge dump trucks parked along the side of the northbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway waiting to be called upon for the grim cleanup process to begin. A young women sitting on the beach staring out at the smoke stained horizon crying . She had just finished blocking out the words “I love you Dad” in the sand. Words that would be washed away with the coming of the next high tide. We will never forget. I will never forget.
