A couple of years ago I was on a Columbia Artist Management tour with Robben Ford, Ruthie Foster et al and Ruthie and I talked about having her come and perform at the Fur Peace Station in scenic Darwin, Ohio. Well, it took a couple of years but she finally made the trip and she play two in incredibly powerful and moving sets to a completely sold out house. Ruthie is beyond spectacular in every sense of the word. See and hear her if you get a chance… anywhere!!!!!!!
Earlier this summer, good old fun loving Hot Tuna did a little run with our good friend Jill Sobule. Jill has a guitar primer of her songs out, and since I realized that I want to be just like her when I grow up, here I am… working on it.

My son Zach has been with us for the last three weeks and as the end of his summer vacation approaches, yesterday I drove him back to his home in Virginia. Well, actually he drove me. He’s got his permit now and well… freedom is just down the road, hand in hand with responsibility. Here’s a shot from the passenger seat somewhere in West Virginia.

Robben Ford came to share music (at least once, at the Wed. Night “Pro-Jams” at the original China Club, circa 1991) I remember putting his name on the guest-Artist list, Robben showed-up and a great show was enjoyed by all.
I took so many calls for the Pro-Jam and so many greats actually arrived, to my delight.
If my memory doesn’t serve me well in this case: Robben:

As for “Stevie Ray Vaughan”:
my friend, the late, great Chesley Millikin actually discovered Stevie, while Chesley was living in Austin. I met Stevie and when he shook my hand, his hand and fingers were so big, that my hand disappeared into his — way past my wrist!
Chesley didn’t have any “paper” (a signed contract) with Stevie. Chesley went to England to visit his best friend, Charlie Watts and when Chesley returned to Austin:
Stevie was signed to a “manager” and addicted to heroin.

I do like riding my bicycle. I often pedal down the road for miles.
I couldn’t do a hit, though.
It wouldn’t result in my going any further.
I would want to stop, get off my bike and take a look around for a nice snack.
I can’t ride my bike when I’m high. No toking before nor while on the road.

Happy non tangent labor days, My favorite Job I ever had was when I was a dental assistant and worked part time at a restaurany call Jalepeno Charlies. Ruthies got a very polished voice.
I heard much about Ruthie’s unique blend of blues and folk music, originating out of her family’s gospel roots in Texas.
I saw her in Manhattan, probably around the early winter of 2007 (?) (was it at “The Living Room”?)
Very nice, that she and Jorma had a musical interlude.
I saw that tour, she was fantastic as was Robben Ford and as always so were you ! Great she was at Fur Peace … one of these a road trip to Ohio is on my “bucket list”! Several years ago I drove right by on our way to a wedding in Northern Kentucky(I would have been more than happy to have visited Fur Peace & skipped the wedding!)

What a great night…thanx for having us Jorma, we are blessed…Ruthie’s rendition of Travelin Shoes was haunting, but watching the two of you go to town on Long Time Gone was special…you really nailed it!!! as much as I love seeing you do what you do best, it is a special treat to see you play as a supporting musician for the acts that come to the Ranch…you are clearly out of your element playing with folks you don’t get to play with often (if ever) but you seem to step it up and knock it out of the park…it’s always a blast to see you on your toes, gold tooth flashing from a wide grin as you are clearly having as much fun as we are on that stage…it is a magical venue hosted by the best folks I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting…the efforts of the Ranch preserve the sounds and styles of the masters for future generations…FPR gives me hope for the future of music…thanx for EVERYTHING you have done for the music lovers of the world!!!!!!

I was at BB Kings when you toured with Ruthie & Robben. I really liked the separation of acoustic & electric sets. Hearing you play solo is airways a treat. Having said that, Ruthie blew me away! I was hearing strains of the Rev. Davis in her intense style. Great photos!
Great shot of you and Ruthie Jorma .Over the years You have introduced me to new artists. I hope to catch a Ruthie performance in the near future. I detect a slight smile on Zachs face as you guys are movin on down the highway in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia . I have been to West Virginia many many times over the years to visit family. It is where my dad was born and raised . West Virginians are fond of saying that if you flattened all the mountains out West Virginia would be the largest state in the country. Did you teach Zach to drive Jorma? I taught my three children to drive assorted nephews aunts and girlfriends. Time moves on doesn’t it? I think that it is high time I made a trip down to the ranch Jorma. When do you post up the 2014 schedule ?
Wow! you’re a very brave man Jorma :). My parents had to have the next door neighbor teach me to drive because they were too nervous!!!
I love Ruthie Foster, first time I saw her live was on the tour with Robben Ford and yourself. Saw her a few times after that at various festivals. I absolutely love her voice and soul. That must have been a great show at FPR. Looking forward to seeing you at interlocken
