Relaxing whilst I put money in the meter... meeting in town for dinner...
The heat wave vanished and Fall rolled in with beautiful blue skies and white clouds.
That blue, blue sky...
Life is indeed like a roll of toilet paper… the closer to the end you get, the faster it goes. It seems like only yesterday it was the Fall of 2012. The time it just rolls on by and each moment becomes more precious. This weekend I went to the Paw Paw Festival at Lake Snowden. We had a Psylodelic Museum booth their with special Fur Peace Ranch Notice. Vanessa was already there with the gang from the Ranch so I rode over with Izze, my sister in law Ginger and her son Montana. When we got to the lake, one of the cats we knew. Mamerto Tindongan had carved a couple of dugout canoes. Mamerto is from Ifugao in the Philippines… and I was there when I was a teenager. How about that? Anyway, a dugout is a great place for four people… so off we went.

Hanging with the kids makes it all worth while… a Fall day, water, a boat… and good food in the concessions.
After my sojourn at the Paw Paw Festival, my sis in law dropped me off home and I picked up my scoot and to a ride to Pomeroy to shee what was shaking at the Sternwheeler Festival.

Today I took Izze to a bowling party in Athens and then back to the Fur Peace Ranch to host the Children’s Yom Kippur service. We played a lot of traditional Jewish music, but our show stopper is the Yom Kippur I’m Sorry Blues.
Jack should be in from England soon… this week is the Pick ‘n’ Putt weekend at the Ranch with a Tuna Duo Show Saturday night…

I heard Urban Moon on satellite radio “deep tracks” station this past Saturday. Being a fan of 40 years I always get excited to hear one of Tuna’s songs on the radio. I thought it was interesting that of the Tuna songs I have heard on radio never heard that one played before. Urban Moon had an interesting sound . I believe the song is on Pair a Dice. Just the heads up for the royalty check due on the play time.
wonderful seeing the boys last night up the road and across the river at fpr. kimock blew me away. looking to catch him again soon in dc. love love loved the collaboration. the audience at fpr is the best! it’s so cool to be in an attentive audience. they were hanging on every note. (((fpr)))

And I catch myself just I grow weary of the torment. aND I CAAAAAAAAAAAATCH MYSELF JUST WONDERING, THAT MY LIFE WOULD SURELY CCCEASE.

As I lovingly call the Platonic. i tis funny that you say that about the west side of town as I was just speaking to someone whom has been inter related wwith my family for generations. And she was mentioning the west side of town. Well we , my family, were like the four corners back in the day. I see the relevance. But it still does not ring home. Where we live it is more of a north south type of issue. I guess your experience is more explicable.

Great people there in Wisconsin Chuck. Everyone that we met was super friendly. From Wisconsin it was into Minnesota and then on to North Dakota where we watched a hill climbing competition in Fargo then off to the prairie dog towns and the majesty of Theodore Roosevelt National Park . . @Jorma– Last evening as I was trying to adhere to my resolve of ‘studying’ your tour dates and venues I came upon one (among a handful of others) which caught my ‘Jorma spirit’ of attention– i.e. the Ramble on the Island!! I just hope that I am not too late w reservations and such. Been in that area of the Island as well as frequenting Rick’s Cafe– I might even work up the confidence of taking that leap of faith off the cliff 🙂 It’s set up as such that with an all inclusive pkg it makes it very user friendly for itinery set up for a 64 year old grey head Should you have any heads’ up with this or FYI’s as I move forward with this endeavor!! @John B –“Happy Birthday One- Day- Late” to you! I’ve sure been getting great geographical ‘lessons’ on here with attempting to map out the venues of your touring yet to come ahead this year!! And to beat all– I missed the Arrington gig due to a prior engagment– my grandson’s 4th Birthday in Baltimore! Anyhow,, John B,, the dinner-theater type place up in Maine you spoke of could have been Johnathan’s in Ogunquit where I missed seeing Jorma this past summer due to not doing my ‘venue homework’– I was only a few miles up the road a tad for a two week stay,,, did I say “bummer” yet?? There is the Ogunquit Playhouse as well. @Jorma –I have so enjoyed your photos,,, especially the one with your daughter sitting waiting for you to feed the meter. BTW,, have you ever noticed billowed clouds conversing with each other in the majestic blue background of sky?? ‘Safe travels and riding everyone!’

This song has always been a special one to me, representing the females at woodstock . All the forces of nature must have been at work that day. I will never forget THAT DAY. It’s a good positve memory to preserve of people trying to come together to find peace and heal from pain, to find solutions instead of problems. Just a great song and this day to me was a challenge. I thought of this. And that no one came place blame on another because to go to the source or within what ever to try ro find peace. I could write on forever. 911 was a bad bad day. But their are so many other atrocities from the p[ast and none have been adressed to am, indians to the extent the media has never done this and how could they without admittting the full capacity of the wholde concept anyway. Silence forever in my heart but I dont want to bring up bad memories, just a sad glich in history, or herstory. A lot of untold stories there as well that will never be told to that extent.I just have a headache. Sorry for this. I need to come to terms with this on my own. without a sledgehammer.

Never been to New Glarus but it sounds like a hoot. Been to Madison and
Lacrosse. And your right on about Swiss food, there’s nothing like it in the world. All the cheeses and fondues. I was hiking in the high Alps near Gimmelwald and came across a tiny restaurant @ about 14,000 ft. Had a plate of spaetzle and grilled sausages and a stein of Spaten. Did you ever try Lingenhauer(sp). I had for the first time this summer, I think it was from Chippewa Falls. Great stuff.
A Tuna duo show on my birthday. You would think that I would have treated myself to Hot Tuna in the mountains of Ohio. Maybe next year……… Have fun everyone!

I spent some time in Rhinelander a loooong time ago Chuck. Is that anywhere near New Glarus? We also went horseback riding at a place named the Little Ponderosa in the town of Pembine. This was back in 1974 . My two buddies and I had a great time on that trip. WE were driving down rte #4 or is rte #2 ? I don’t remember now but a car with a few guys going fishing pulled alongside our car and held up a special implement and indicated that they needed some help with filling said implement. We were more then happy to oblige . When we finished up we went on our way toward Minnesota and they said that they were no longer in any kind of shape to go fishing . Swiss cooking is some of the best. Some of the cheeses can be a little stout for me though. Come see us in New Glarus, Wisconsin during Heidi Fest. People come from all over the world to that great little town. Jorma played this past year only a few miles away. @johno

September is always a promise for some of the most beautiful days of the year.
It is a very nice little town johno. We went up last winter to spend a few days in the mountains and settled on Jim Thorpe . We walked around the town for an hour or two just looking around. I recall an old jail or something there as being the place where an Irish or English so called agitator was hung .Jerry McGuire ? Then we walked past the Opera house ; the train station, and drove by a couple a old mansions up on the hill. We intended to make another trip to Thorpe during the summer months but just never got around to it . As so many things do today Jim Thorpe slipped from my memory along with our unrealized plans for a return trip. As summer heads south I am making plans for a modest leaf peeping trip up north. Vermont and the Connecticut River valley are a possibility but a more realistic day trip back to the “Switzerland of America” may actually be what I end up doing. I have never been to any of the venues in and around Thorpe and Sellersville but hope to this next tour . Steelstacks sounds like a great place to see Tuna. Maybe that will be the one. A couple of friends travelled to Maine a year or two ago and caught Tuna at a dinner theatre type of place where you were seated very close to the stage and they raved about it. It never ceases to amaze me what a small world we’re in. My grandmother was born in a small town 9 miles up from Mauch Chunch called Summit Hill in Carbon County, MC is now called Jim Thorpe. They changed the name because that’s where JT is buried. It’s been called the “Switzerland of America”. I think there’s a small hotel called “Little Switzerland” in town. Been there several times for weddings, family reunions etc. Deep in heart of coal country.

Just looking at your schedule and I see you’ll be in Helsinki with Canned Heat. Hot Tuna and Canned Heat – 2 of my all time favorite bands. Is that gonna be a hot show or what – We gotta that show up in Bethel Woods next spring.
Oh yeah, Craig is also a regular at Steelstacks where Jorma will play on 12/3.
John B – Craig Thatcher opened for Jorma that night in Mauch Chunk. He’ll be opening for John Mayall in Sellersville, Penna. on 11 Oct. Jorma’s rocked that venue too! It’s just a bit larger than the Opera House, a great place to see a show.

Last winter my friend and I went tubing in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania and we stayed for a few nights at The Inn At Jim Thorpe . It was at the Broadway Grill that I heard a guitar player playing a Hot Tuna song. No question about where we were going to eat that evening! His name is Craig Thatcher and we were treated to several hours of fine music . I was determined not to forget his name. Which of course is exactly what I did and I hadn’t given him a thought since then; though he made a mighty impression on me that night. He had a fiddle player that was just awesome. I was looking at some of your previous posts and noticed one that mentioned Craig Thatcher and how you met him. He was the guy that we saw that night! Thank you for continuing to bring to the attention of your listeners the names of other outstanding musicians that you like. Over the decades you have done this for me more then a few times. You and Barry did a show at the Mauch Opera house in Jim Thorpe Pa.I hope that you will return there to play some day and that Craig Thatcher will be in town and join you guys onstage.
