On Wednesday there was an outing in the Hocking Hills at Ash Cave for the kids involved in the Ohio Virtual Academy, so of course Nessa and Izze and my nephew Montana and Izze’s Learning Coach, Shannon and I drove up from Meigs County to the Hocking Hills for a lovely day in the woods and a chance to meet our online teachers in the flesh as well as some of the local kids that are in the program. Now, I’ve been to Old Man’s Cave a number of times but I had never been to Ash Cave before. Beautiful… simply beautiful.

Here’s a little foto gallery:

Yesterday, Myron and I drove up to Newburg, N.Y. for a gig in Beacon tonight at the Town Crier Cafe. It’s nice to be playing music again, but somehow, on some days… nature just rules!

    @Barbara Jacobs
    I found out through a friend of mine on Facebook. Coincidentally I was in the New York area just for the weekend to unveil my Dad’s tombstone in the poconos. I would have liked to have gone, but being I was only in for a few days, I thought It would be better to spend time with family. Glad everyone had a good time for a worthy cause.

    Secret or no secret I thought that it was an outstanding performance. Jorma was superb and it was good to see Barry again. Both Norton and Ralph were card carrying members of the Raccoon Lodge . woooo !

    That’s tasty.
    I didn’t even know it was a Racoon Lodge production.
    (I always thought that “the Racoon Lodge” was a place where Ralph Cramden went on “The HoneyMooners”, or was it Norton?).

    I’m going to show that link to my omelette, tomorrow morning.

    This has to have been a non-secret. (and I was worried that I shouldn’t reveal anything, even my own limited info.) @Hamneggs

    Oh, so that’s how you knew about it!
    It was a secret that somehow spread, coast-to-coast>
    So, I could have told my omelette about it. Even if my omelette only told my green tea and my green only told my toast; the secret would not have travelled
    from my breakfast plate.

    With such a big turn-out, I would think that maybe next time, that Benefit could be held in a bigger venue or on a two-nighter.

    It’s so counter-intuitive to me, to know that so much more money could have been raised for that great cause, and keep a secret that wasn’t actually a real secret.
    I do know that all of Bay Ridge knew about it and quite a few of the people there had no idea who Jorma is. Maybe that’s a good thing, because now they know. They went, saw and heard.

    @Rob
    Yes, it was a limited-seating situation. Nobody wants hordes of Jorma fans to
    storm the doors. I would have gone to the show, just to see Kirchen.
    I was only willing to tell “hamneggs” about it, because he’s a teacher and such a big Jorma fan (and, I thought that he lives in Brooklyn. He works so hard at his job and does so much to help kids).

    I didn’t even tell my omelette.

    A friend of mine living in California emailed me and asked if I was going to the secret Jorma show.

  15. Comment made on April 1, 2014 by Rob

    Yes, it was a very well kept secret, 500 tickets were sold with the understanding that if the show became public knowledge it would threaten the show itself. A wonderful job by the Racoon Lodge for promoting the show along with all the volunteers, as well as 3 great musicians who were very flexible and obliging for a great cause.

    @Rob
    Yes, I know and heard that it was a great show.
    It seems that I was keeping a secret that wasn’t actually secret.
    But, if Jorma wanted to talk about it in advance of the show, he would have done so, here on his blog.
    Jorma might still post a blog about the Benefit. Meanwhile, I’m enjoying these fantastic photos on this blog-post.

    You and I are The Guild of Exceptional secret-keepers! LOL!

    Yes Barbara, I use to live in Bay Ridge, I now live down on the Jersey Shore. What a benefit show it was Sat Night @ OLPH. Bill Kirchen opened with an hour long set, then Jorma & Barry for close to 2 1/2 hours. Great music and the second set included “Trial by Fire”, Watersong & Embryonic… What a show!

    It’s been a long time since I saw Jorma without Jack. Well, let me say here you worked the crowd beautifully last night in Riverhead and brought the crowd down when you closed with a heart felt ‘Genesis’. My thanks to you and Barry for coming to eastern LI for another kick ass show. Love you man.

    Do you live in Bay Ridge (or Bay Ridge-adjacent: Bensonhurst, Park Slope)?

    Bay Ridge is a very civic-minded community and very concerned about the well-being of children and adults.
    Jorma might write a blog-post about the Benefit and then the organization will get world-wide attention.

    There’s always a Benefit, of some kind or other, happening in Bay Ridge:
    on March 22, 2014: the anti-hunger charity, “One Sandwich at a Time; held its monthly sandwich-making event at St. John Church Parish Hall.
    It was two hours of volunteers making sandwiches which are then boxed and delivered to local shelters and food pantries.
    After that, there was a performance by the Mississippi Gulf Coast College Choir, an 80-person singing group (they also made sandwiches before their performance).@Rob

    All Americans’ ancestors came here from elsewhere in the world.
    Paglianos can be found in many cities in the USA.
    However, if you provide a first name of that artist, maybe Carlo can check his family-tree to see if that artist is from Carlo’s line of Paglianos.@John B

See you tomorrow night in Brooklyn for the fund raiser, really appreciate what your doing for all the folks who need some assistance in life. And yes my son Robert Hunter (10 1/2) will finally meet you. Better watch out he might ask Izzy on a date in the near future. Safe travels my friend and we’ll see you tomorrow.

    I want to emigrate. Every one blessed day it’s Jorma’s day in USA. Hundreds of Concerts a year, dozens a month, three to four a week. Desertic zone round here in these days.
    Jorma-mat helps though.
    Steady As She Goes Jorma!
