So we started out this tour a couple of days ago on this old Silver Eagle. Reminded me of the George Jones song, ‘Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?’

Anyway, we burned out of Pomeroy over to Wilmington, Delaware and the Grand Opera House.

Now this is real movie stuff...
Now we’re headed up to the Waterville Opera House in Waterville, Maine. Going to spend the rest of Father’s Day with my lovely wife and daughter who are at the beach in Maine and head up to Waterville, ensemble.
Last but not least, a comment popped up on my last entry… the one about my Mom… something about 3 track recording. I’m thinking, ‘Where the heck did this come from?’ Oh well… anyway… remember… there was mono recording… then, ‘wow,’ stereo… then three track so you could ping pong. Keep in mind, no noise reduction so you could only overdub twice… three times at the most before the sound degraded. Surrealistic Pillow was a four track recording. Wow… progress. No Dolby… you actually had to nail your parts… what a concept. Things are a lot easier now, that’s for sure.
OK… we’re swapping out the Eagle for a Prevost and we’re outta here.
My husband and I used to always go to your shows together. He passed away October 5, 2013 so this time I went to the show at the Sherman with friends. “In My Dreams” just broke me to pieces and a grief trigger never felt so sweet. He never ages in my dreams either. A wonderful song.
Speaking of great old stuff coming back, the old Bobby Whitlock albums have been re-mastered and are ready for release.

Also the Carter Family and most anybody who loves “mountain music”. I have lived my whole in various places but never more than an hour from Waukesha. I think almost every kid in Wisconsin had either a Packer hat or a Les Paul.

I am a big believer in keeping the recording process as straight-forward as possible. I like to think as though I’m capturing a “performance” of the song on tape. I know it really isn’t like that anymore but I don’t believe in taking out what some consider “mistakes”. I like to hear fingers sliding on guitar strings for instance. I like performers who have gone back to record now and then with the old technology, instruments, surroundings etc.
Glad to see you boys back at work. You all looked well, sounded great, and seemed happy and content. That was my perspective from row 2 @ the Grand Opera House. NICE! Your Pal
Yeah, in the interview Jack talked about recording the first JA album on 3 track, how it was ‘hot stuff’ at the time. The progression of recording technique has always fascinated me, so thanks for the perspective 🙂
Delaware show was Fantastic!!! Tuna was at their BEST!!! Happy Fathers Day to all you Dads, see you all in Toms River… my home town, one week from today!
