Last Thursday, my Vanessa’s sister, Ginger, was one of the handful of recipients to receive a Jenco Award for their selfless service to Appalachia.

The awards were hosted by the Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville and it was an honor richly deserved by all the recipients. The hills and hollers of Appalachia that we who live here all love so much, require a lot of work, care and love. This can be a hard place to live for many people, and anything we can do to help, must be done!

After the ceremony, I took a little walk around the historic square in Nelsonville while I tried to remember where I parked my car.

Back in the 1800’s, the Star Brick was the raison d’etre for this lovely little town. Now they are somewhat collectable.

Friday we started another great weekend at the Fur Peace Ranch with Pete Huttlinger and myself. Pete was teaching mandolin this time and I… an interactive electric guitar workshop.

Had the great pleasure of catching the 10/18 show at FPR with Jorma and Pete Huttlinger…WOW! An outstanding evening of music all the way around! Really enjoyed Hurl joining Jorma for a couple of great tunes. Always impressed with Jorma and it was my first time seeing Pete…picked up all of his CDs that night. Also, was fortunate to catch Richard Thompson (solo acoustic) the following night at Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville with Amanda Shires opening act. Two great nights of music in a row. Looking forward to next FPR trip. Blessings

I read the bio of Fr. Jenco, who was an amazing man, and Ginger to be recognized by an association affiliated with him is really special. You must be extremely proud. Congratulations.

I have always felt blessed to be around the folks who come from the hills and hollers not only of Appalachia but also the upper Midwest. I’ve seen blacksmiths and carpenters create miraculous beauty with the skill of their hands. No power tools. All by hand. I’ve seen farmers settle down highly agitated cows with just a low reassuring voice and a touch of a steady familiar hand. These things some say are from a different time, now gone. But they are wrong. These things are ageless and will always be important. Like a musician we all know from Ohio whose words, voice and hands create that same miraculous beauty.

Yes Jorma, that IS a nice looking chord!!

It looks like you may, after all these years, have finally discovered the actual first chord George Harrison played on “A Hard Day’s Night”…(so….what is it pray tell?)

    Enjoy the gigs Captain!!
