Cool stuff at Mille's
I was able to snag my son Zach, for the last week of his vacation… we got a couple of motorcycle rides in and got to eat at Millie’s in Rutland, Ohio.

A nice ride home back to Hillside Farm… and ready to leave on Thursday for New York.
On our way to Amagansett and Stephen Talkhouse we stopped for the night in Riverhead and on Friday morning for breakfast we went to Anthony Meras’ Star Confectionery for breakfast.

Early Sunday morning, Phil and I went over to Tanzy’s at 223 Warren St. in Hudson. We were meeting some folks there to present a surprise Fur Peace Ranch Gift Certificate to this cool gentlemen whose extremely thoughtful wife gave him a session for his 50th birthday. What a woman.

I dropped Zach of with his Mom in Hagerstown. Tomorrow is his first day as a Junior in High School. Boy does the time fly! Seems like only yesterday that… oh well.

The power of family is so amazing. I just witnessed it – my wife’s father just died last week. And to see the entire family come from in from all over is truly amazing. Just the way it comes together for weddings and birthdays – it’s always there for good times and sad. The secret is to have more good times.
Jorma, I just want to say I enjoy your blog almost (!) as much as your music. Besides the opportunity to learn more about you and your world it also helps understand some of the meaning behind the songs you choose each night. Thanks for working so hard and sharing so much.

Yes, the Rev. Gary Davis became blind as an infant.
He had a terribly hard early life, learned he could make a living as a musician, then found his calling to the ministry.
What an amazing guy he was…

Thanks a lot for the piece of the Ole Rev. I’ve never seen it before and he was really serious. Was he blind? Those glasses are really dark. I would loved to have heard him play. Jorma, while you were out @ Montauk – you could’ve taken a charter boat out and caught some big Yellowtail or Bluefin Tuna. Next time.

Thank you, Hamneggs. I havn’t seen that in quite some time. Oh Glory! I used to watch it on video. It’s on file in Jormas’ library as well. It brought tears to my eyes. The Rev. is one serious dude. The version of “Sally” has some different stuff goin’ on from what some might be used to hearing in that number. “She Wouldn’t Say Quit” is a hoot. Awsome.

Jorma, I just ordered this CD. It’s a two-disc set of Hot Tuna at the Fillmore West closing, July 3rd, 1971, on Keyhole Records. The entire show.
The reviews say the sound quality is questionable, which makes me wonder…
Is this an authorized release?
Are you getting royalties from it?
If it IS a legit release, why wouldn’t they use the original master tapes?
We know the whole show was recorded in high quality, as shown by the previous release of some parts of the show- Last Days of the Fillmore, Classic Hot Tuna Electric, etc.
I just want to hear the 22 minute version of Feel So Good!

Helsinki Hudson was fantastic. Great venue. Do come back and bring Jack! And maybe go electric too.
Although we live on Long Island, we couldn’t make the Talkhouse show because we were vacationing in Bar Harbor and Acadia, Maine for the week. However, I purchased tickets for the Helsinki show and my wife agreed to return home via Hudson, NY. The show was well worth the additional 2 hours and 130 miles in travel. The music was great. I’ve loved the song “Bar Room Crystal Ball” since I bought “Yellow Fever” as a senior in HS. And “Brother, Can You Spare a Dime” is such a great old standard that works in really well with the set list. And finally, the between song banter between you and Barry (and sometimes the audience) is very funny. L’shanah Tovah and I look forward to seeing you guys again (and Jack and Marty) at the Beacon in December.
How do you get notified of these shows not on the tour list?
