Oddly enough, in some ways Shizuoka reminded me of Santa Cruz, California. Not visually, but the head space. Lovely place to visit and play!

    Dear Jorma,

    Love all the great pics and set lists of the shows in Japan!
    Once again ,thanks so much for sharing.
    Now I want to have some Soba too!!

    Stay well and travel safe!

    Most of my shirts and hats are either car-related, racing related and golf related with only about 50 concert related. I spent a lot of time golfing and I worked for an automobile related magazine – I’m watching a ranger game now hence ‘no caps’. Later.

    OY GAVALT!

    Anyway:
    To Mayumi:
    Do you now have any tee-shirts, made for your venue: “Freaky Show”?
    If you do, please let me know because I would like to purchase some from you.

    If you do not:
    I suggest that you make some, with the name of your venue: “Freaky Show”,
    and include on the tee-shirt:
    “Freaky Show Shizuoka Japan”

  9. Comment made on April 30, 2014 by Barbara Jacobs

    HUH?!
    Each tee-shirt (or hat) that you purchased, was because you wanted to take home
    an item from whichever show where you bought it.
    Why would you “have over 500 T-shirts and over 100 hats”, now in your collection?

    I’m not “as big as a blimp”. I don’t wear all of my collection of tee-shirts –ALL AT ONE TIME! (and I have way more than 500 concert tee-shirts).

    Have you ever even considered that, perhaps, there are people (much younger than you and I ) who are starting their own collections of concert/show tee-shirts?

    johno: It seems that your (self-described, here on an earlier blog discussion)
    “middle-age crisis” has you back in Cranky Town.
    Chill out, man!@johno

    I have over 500 T-shirts and over 100 hats – including several HT shirts & hats. One more is not going to make a difference unless your as big as a blimp. Which I don’t think u are.

    @Barbara Jacobs

  11. Comment made on April 30, 2014 by Barbara Jacobs

    It doesn’t matter.
    A concert/show tee-shirt is a commemorative item.
    That’s why they are sold, same as other concert merch.
    Tee-shirts are collectables and are the greatest form of “walking advertisements”.

    Tee-shirts are never “timing off”. Tee-shirts from overseas shows are the most
    valuable and are a great conversation-starter whenever/ wherever they are worn.
    They live on, almost forever, depending on wear-and-tear.

    My Jorma “front porch man” tee-shirt was worn so often (I used to sleep in it)
    that each washing made it softer and better. I always packed it in my luggage, when I went out-of-town. That tee-shirt traveled the world with me.
    It got to the point where it was so worn-out, that the little holes in it became bigger. Many Customs Agents throughout the world, held it up; while inspecting my luggage. They looked at the shirt — then looked at me. I was smiling and as that shirt became more “holey”, I got some curious looks from the Customs Agents.

    My boyfriend finally threw it out, after it was hanging together (literally) by a thread. ( Although, before that happened, I wanted to mail it to Jorma and Vanessa, in order to have it buried in the hallowed ground of FPR.)

    It lasted many years and served me well: first as my beach tee-shirt, then as my sleep tee-shirt.@johno

  12. Comment made on April 30, 2014 by johno

    By the time the shirts are made – the ‘freaky tour’ will be over.
    Good idea but the timing is off.
    HT is Rockin’ them good in Japan.

  13. Comment made on April 30, 2014 by Barbara Jacobs

    Also:
    I would send those “Hot Tuna 2014 Freaky Show Shizuoka, Japan” tee-shirts to
    my friend Drew Nieporent (owner of the Nobu retaurants) and to Drew’s Nobu co-owners: Robert De Niro and to Nobu Matsuhisa.

    I think it would be a nice touch, to have the name “Hot Tuna”, translated into Japanese, to include on the tee-shirt.

  14. Comment made on April 30, 2014 by Barbara Jacobs

    Mayumi:
    I am a publicist and I do Public Relations, and although Jorma is my friend;
    the decision to make tee-shirts and sell them on this Jorma website, is for Jorma and Vanessa to decide.

    If I had the choice to make a tee-shirt with the “Jorma/Hot Tuna” name brand —
    I would do it.
    I love, love, love:
    “Freaky Show” venue name.

    I also love, love, love Jorma/Hot Tuna.

    I would wear that tee-shirt around the world in my travels:
    At the beach in Long Island, New York;
    all around Europe, every place that I go to travel.

    It is a very cool idea for a tee-shirt, so I hope that Jorma and Vanessa would like to make the tee-shirt and offer it here on Jorma’s website, for sale to all of the fans who would like to buy it and wear it.

  15. Comment made on April 30, 2014 by Barbara Jacobs

    See, Vanessa?!
    Mayunmi’s venue: Freaky Show;
    does not seem to be in any conflict with the promoter of the Japan tour.

    If there is no deal for this Japan tour tee-shirts (and if you can only do one shirt — “Freaky Show” venue is an excellent, catchy name to have on a Tuna/Japan
    2014 tee-shirt.)

  16. Comment made on April 30, 2014 by Barbara Jacobs

    Mayumi:
    That is O.K.
    because Vanessa and Jorma can make that tee-shirt and sell it on this Jorma Kaukonen website!

    “Freaky Show” is a great name for your venue and also a great name to have on a tee-shirt, with “Hot Tuna Japan Tour 2014”, on the front of the shirt;
    and on the back of the shirt:
    “Freaky Show
    Shizuoka, Japan”

    I love this idea and maybe Jorma and Vanessa will make the tee-shirt and feature it on this website, for sale to all of the Jorma/ Hot Tuna fans, all around the USA.@Mayumi Ichikawa

    @Barbara Jacobs
    Hi Barbara
    Unfortunately,I didn’t make a t-shirt for Japan tour.
    I just only supported the show in Shizuoka.
    Buffalo Record is supporting whole tour. But they didn’t make a t-shirt for this tour.
    “Freaky show” is the name of the venue in Shizuoka.
    Do you make a t-shirt?

  18. Comment made on April 29, 2014 by Barbara Jacobs

    Seriously, Vanessa:
    white tee-shirts, with black type:

    on the front:
    “Hot Tuna Japan 2014”
    on the back:
    “Freaky Show
    Shizuoka Japan
    2014”

  19. Comment made on April 29, 2014 by Barbara Jacobs

    Because: I would be happy to wear, for instance:
    a “Freaky Show Hot Tuna Japan–2014” tee-shirt; on the beach this summer.
    Simple black-on-white color.

  20. Comment made on April 29, 2014 by Barbara Jacobs

    If you did not, but have asked Jorma to approve special tee-shirts:
    please make them in sizes: extra-large;
    extra-extra large;
    and extra extra extra-large;
    All-cotton material.
    (They shrink when they are washed and that is the way we like it: extra large; extra, extra large and even extra, extra, extra-large size:
    also known as:
    “extra-large” (USA: small size)

    “extra-large-2″ (USA: medium size)
    extra-large-3” (USA :large size).

    “extra, extra-large” would be: (USA : extra-large+plus size).

    If Jorma and Vanessa agree to this deal: from all of the venues where Jorma and Jack have graced your stages,
    the tee-shirts would be available to us, to order, here in the USA.

    Mayu:
    Did you make tee-shirts for that show?
    If so, can we order those tee-shirts online, from you?@Mayumi Ichikawa

    pssst, Greg Martelli:
    please see my reply to your comment, April 24th “A Yokohama Landing”

    I think that Jorma/Tuna songs, being performed in Japan, have that same effect on the Japanese fans who have the pleasure of attending these excellent shows.

    “Cos I’m a Muswell hillbilly boy,
    but my heart lies in old West Virginia
    Never seen New Orleans, Oklahoma, Tennessee;
    still I dream of the Black Hills
    that I ain’t never seen…

    …Though my hills are not green,
    I’ve seen them in my dreams
    take me back to those Black Hills,
    that I have never seen…”

  24. Comment made on April 28, 2014 by Barbara Jacobs

    Yoshi is excited and delighted!
    He’s been to almost every show ,with his friends in each city.
    He doesn’t do blog-post comments, he’s kind of shy and he only talks to me via telephone calls; so I can actually hear the pleasure of his voice and his reports.

    Wow Jorma what beautiful scenes.
    What frames so different from Ozu’s visions. Bet just out in the countryside they unveil again, perfect opposite laid in perfect harmony, plus Tuna’s paramount harmonies, Japan is a complete triumph now of Land and Music.
