Well, tonight the boys and i played the Talking Stick in Scottsdale… a very cool casino. Whatever has been afflicting me completely took my voice and we just played instrumentals. We played tunes I haven’t played in years. Living on the edge keeps you sharp.

Onward!
Dan, that’s where Jorma took the shot of the beautiful gold top.
@pk mason
I think Hot Tuna has played there before
Talking about drummers, does anyone know where Sammy Piazza is? He was in my opinion one of Tuna’s greatest drummers.
That would be a great show to enjoy, along with the one from a couple years ago where Bob Steeler filled in as emergency drummer for Electric Tuna.
Need a copy of that instrumental show Jorma. Everyone saying the same thing. “I wish I was at that one !”
Rock Them All Double Coast Tonight Jorma!
Jormaaaaaaaa!!!
Sorry that the remedy didn’t come through the electron storm of the interwebs. Barb has the right idea but put some Vicks in that steaming water and then breathe in. Also you could try some Szechuan Chinese. Maybe a good dose of Hot and Sour soup and some Kung Pao Chicken will do the trick.
Jorma I think my home remedy will help.
I would melt into the floor if I was at a Tuna show and one of those instrumentals was Crown of Creation.
Thank you for a wonderful show on Friday night. The music you played was just exquisite. We were sorry the bug robbed you of your voice, but glad your fingers were in fine shape, Jorma. We hope you are feeling better but we were the beneficiaries of your “living on the edge.” My ENT in Phoenix (Dr. Jeff McKenna) is known among the otologists here as the “rock doc” and treats a lot of singers’ throats who need his help when visiting dusty and dry Phoenix. For future reference, perhaps.
Another venue here in Phoenix/Scottsdale that you guys might want to look into if you grace our town again is the Musical Instrument Museum, 4725 E. Mayo Boulevard | Phoenix, AZ 85050 – they have a great room with very good sound and are bringing in an eclectic group of musicians to play shows there.
Heard from Barbara that you’re feeling under the weather, but glad to hear you were able to roll with the punches and stay in good spirits! I’ve actually been sick myself with a sinus infection the past two weeks … I use a nasal rinse called Alkolol and add a half dropper of Golden Seal tincture (alchohol based) to the mix. Strong nettle tea also seems to temper an over the top inflammatory response. Hope your feelin’ beter soon!
Miss Emily Litella of Fort Lee New Jersey writes:
“Dear Jorma Jormadorma:
Sorry to hear that you feel cold. I am knitting you a whoo sweata.
Please wear a bip when you eat soapa. The strains are very hard to wasout.
I will be pretending your nupcoming co-certs in New Jersey.
Are you going on first? If so, I will bring you a Hot Tuna slamwich.
If I put cheese on the slamwich: it will be a Hot Tuna melt-gevelt.
Best regards to snack and Berry Middleheft.

@johno
Feeda Jackacracka in his soupa.
Feeda Jorma chicken soupa.
Feeda Jack and starva Jorma.
Gotta read the Mark Twain book on How to Cure the Common Cold.
I’m sorry you’re not feeling well, Jorma.
However, I have a feeling that was a quite a set.
Like you said about living on the edge, that show is all about it.
Yah, a lot of artists would have canceled.
Hot Tuna. In my opinion, the greatest, most versatile band on the planet!
Get well soon Jorma.
“Seven Days”
@Joe in Dc
Get better jorma. Only time will help………..
It’s a matter of clearing-out the congestion.
At this point, Jorma will get some relief by steaming, in the manner I described.
Even if he’s not feeling well enough to sing, he will at least, feel better while playing onstage.@John B
Sorry to hear about being sick on the road. That is a real drag. But an instrumental Uncle Sam? Wow! Hope you feel better soon. Hoping the music brought healing vibes. And yes, that would make a great release!
Starve a fever – feed a cold. Or is it feed a fever and starve a cold? Oh never mind…..
Jorma:
Boil a big pot of water.
Put a towel over your head.
Breath the steam in.
Keep the Puffs Plus on hand to blow your nose and cough up the congestion.
Repeat.
Johno- you were brought up with the same voice remedies as myself exactly! Although that salted water would gag me,, BUT it worked!! @Jorma –hope you are recouping!! Just stay away from milk and ice cream and dairy products ,,it will help keep a crisp voice! Stay with that warm tea, honey and lemon formula!!
Read Mark Twains “How to cure a Common Cold”
Actually that sounds like a great set! You should do what Pete Seeger does and have the audience sing for you, or at least sing along.
I heard Jack did do lead vocals but the mike wasn’t on!
Be thou healed, be thou Whole Be thou Happy

Thou art protected by the invisible light of Love

I was at the show last night and enjoyed the hell out of it… having seen Jorma many times, sure there was a little disappointment but it was well made up for in the playing… in the tunes that shoulda’ been sung, Jorma et al were vocalizing on their instruments and that was awesome… I also felt like I was seeing a pretty unique show, as well as having compassion for the man who’s made my day many, many times… THANKS FOR THE GREAT SHOW AND PLAYING ON !!!
Very nice set list. I’m sure most other bands would have cancelled. I read a comment somewhere else that said it was a stellar show! Hope you feel better soon.
Well said Carlo….
His Captain’s Voice is docking few hrs.
Last time it happened it came out a real joy for the heart, couple a days and the entire Concert was ready to be downloaded, Jorma’s voice in that contest was so sweetly thin so yieldingly lovely, the other side of the bother is always special. And real special is the set list of few hours ago in Scottsdale Arizona where Hot Tuna at the Talking Stick must have performed an outstanding and unique Set of Songs we don’t see often played in the same night. ‘Living In The Moment’-’Do Not Go Gentle’-‘Follow The Drinking Gourd’-‘Sally?’ all in the same dealing shuffle plus Jorma’s Songs that usually fly in the venue accompanied with the singing, and right there the substitution with the choir of the strings must have been the job, and knowing of how Jorma works the result for the audience must have been at least astonishing, Barry & Jack (one Person) like Jorma & Jack (one Person) must have had their times following, the harmonies levitating from the instruments must have actually been a new thing altogether, news that become from a very precise source which is the first Tuna Concert in 2014 at the Iron Horse in Northampton M. now sheltered on itunes, there the touch was touching right from the call of the warming of the strings, at thirteen below, must send power in the hands, in the fingers, in the nails, always pump new power, work, poetry, history (ah, Night Train), passion, patience, and blind Faith, and strong will at any cost, Jorma is all that and more all what not mentioned, so being Jorma this time compelled to channel instrumental, we can well imagine, and of course the other Person (Barry & Jack) I bet had to wear Bolt’ shoes not to be doubled. Jorma’s voice at the Iron Horse, if one notices, is of a renewed implemented touchable devoted meaningful sweetness.
What a great Concert must have flown inside the heart of the audience so lovely rewarded.
And today is all anew altogether, go figure!
Rock Them Your A1 Stellar Rocking Way Tonight Jorma!
water
Get better soon, Captain!
Not the typical show, but it would be so cool to hear all those fantastic instrumentals…
Doesn’t Barry sing…or at last resort Jack. Anyway try gargling w/ warm salt after. And drinks lots of tea w/ lemon and honey. Just tryin to help out Cap’n.
Hope you’re feeling better soon. Should have had Jack sing! 🙂
Sally where’d you get your liquor from ! Good grief I can’t remember the last time I heard that one Jorma. Great looking set list Jorma. I hope for a speedy recovery for you.
Please make this recording available on Spotify. An epic set list. Thanks.
