Well, many people know that I hail from The Land Of Pleasant Living. Yep… the the D.C. Metropolitan are. I remember going to Washington Senators games at Griffith Park with my Dad, but that’s another story. In any case, we were there last night at the Birchmere on our Leon Russell tour and it was a great night in many ways.

Zach has been working hard on his guitar the last couple of years and last summer when he asked me to teach him ‘Been So Long,’ I was almost speechless. Anyway, he learned it and he and I played it at the Fur Peace Ranch a couple of times. Last night he joined Hot Tuna on stage at the gig and did his old man proud!

That’s fantastic Jorma! Having Zach join you onstage at the Birchmere must have sent shivers down your spine. One summer I got my son Chris a job working at the same place that I did. Our ride to work together is something that I cherished and still look back on with a smile. Speaking of hometowns. I just found out an hour ago that Hot Tuna will be playing in my hometown on June 22 ! I can’t wait. See you soon Jorma.

The land of Natty Bo’s. Anyway, if I was to see Zach walking down the street somewhere, I’d know whose boy he was. Washington Senators at Griffith Stadium…..I went to college with one of the grand offspring of Mr. Griffith. Funny story for another time. A team comprised entirely of utility infielders with names like Klutz and Plews, He moved the operation lock stock and barrel to the land of 10,000 lakes. Glad to see you’re still a road warrior with your best pal and all the folks.
Joe in DC– thanks for the show review– and ‘In My Dreams’ so wish I could have been there! Reading your post helped out. @Jorma,, you can sure tell that Zach is his father’s son. There is a striking resemblance of you both from your ‘early’ years especially in the first shot of you and Zach sitting around the table. Really nice in many ways.

I only have just a few photos of me and my dad:
The first was of him holding me, as a new-born.
The second is of him out on a weekend walk with me (I’m barely in the photo’s frame. He was a fast walker and I was always running behind trying to keep up with him. Very: “Daddy Don’t You Walk So Fast”.)
The third is of him trying to show me how to play the sax. (He’s pointing to me as I’m trying to play it and my little face is all red!)
speaking of Dads and Sons I worked with my dad when I was young… Not quite as exciting as your gig, he owned a Typesetting company… But I always remember those as good times.. driving to work together, etc….
You’re back in your hometown – you have your son there – and to top it off he’s sitting next to you playing – you musta been on top of the world. Way to go Zach you pulled it off and made your father proud! From pictures Zach looks like a young Buddy Holly.
WOW! It doesn’t seem like it could get any better. But it probably will I bet you are a proud Dad. Maybe you could teach him “Watch the North Wind Rise”. I sure do miss that song!
Man, I used to love going to work with Dad. Every minute was special. The few times I’ve seen performers bring their kids on stage I’ve wondered how the parent kept their focus, and didn’t just end up grinning & staring at their kid. And, by the way, Bring Your Daughter to Work day is April 24 this year.
