It’s been hectic and I’m a couple days behind on my blog, so here goes. After Chicago, we dove up to Minneapolis where I played two shows at the Dakota, Jazz Club.

We had been having some problems with the generators on the bus (It’s always something with these rigs) but the bus was able to rest conveniently near the gig.
This is a little creepy...
Anyway, I walked over to the bus, picked up my guitar and walked to the gig.

Then it was time to drive to Stoughton, Wisconsin to play the Stoughton Opera House. Now with both gennys out on the bus, the only electricity was in the driver’s compartment. Fortunately, it was neither too hot nor too cold and we were driving during the day. On the bright side… since the TV’s didn’t work, I didn’t have to watch the news.
City Hall and Opera House... the way it should be!
The Opera House is beautiful. Thank goodness the folks in Stoughton had the foresight to remember the past with honor and bring it into the present without putting in some fast food joint.

Yesterday we met up with a temporary bus in Illinois and sent our injure one to Nashville for repairs. We got to ride in an old Silver Eagle… and stopped for the evening in Louisville. Yep, back in my own time zone again.
I love the way they're keeping the old bulding facades.
We went for a walk in the rain and found a great barbeque joint… and on the way…
You can say that again!

Now we’re off to Nashville to retrieve our bus… hopefully, and then down to Live Oak, Florida and Wanee. Yep, Hot Tuna Electric!

Larry Cambell and David Bromberg did a great set last night in Tarrytown NY that included Police Dog Blues and a visit from opening act Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn

If you go to ‘Forever Changes Glastonbury’ you’ll find them playing the entire album from Glastonbury UK – they are not around anymore.

The first album I bought was “To Our Childrens, Childrens, Children.” I bought it because I liked the album cover.
I think my favorite Hot Tuna cover is Quah. How can you look at that cover and not say, “Hmmm, I wonder what’s in this album.” I liked the Burgers cover also – never get tired of looking at that old car and the assortment of characters around it.
Never heard of the group LOVE – might have to you tube.

The one time I saw the Moody Blues was at the Forum in the ’80’s. The supporting act was a new guitar slinger named…Stevie Ray Vaughan.
They don’t make them like they used to.
(What do I know that was before I was born. But you know Barbara has it and now she goes to find it for me to listen. Warning to beware of scratches and the record skips)

I can’t believe you mentioned The Moody Blues – one of my favorite bands. Next to Hot Tuna they are one of my top 3. I listen to them a lot. My top 3 are Hot Tuna/Airplane – The Moody Blues – Love. Love was a group that was popular back in the ’60’s and out of LA. Great tunes. ‘Forever Changes’ by Love is one of their best albums – if you can find it.
I know how you feel about small towns. I am of the same persuasion. I know many of my neighbors and I don’t worry about where I walk around here. I don’t think we could ever swing getting yourself or the band to play in Perry but I hope some day to get you in Des Moines. If you’re ever traveling by close, at least consider giving Perry Iowa a visit.

MT, funny you mention that you thought I mighy make the wisconsin show. Sunday morning I googled directions to see how far a drive it was! If it were a matinee, I probably would have made the trip.
One last thing about last Thursday’s show. Jorma appeared to do some experimenting on the giutar, taking leads to places they had never been to before. Ceazy good stuff. It made me think, so many musicians would be content to strum their chords and sing their tunes. The fans would would be higjly content with just that. But Jorma continues to push himself, coaxing great sounds out of his guitar. Sort of rrminds me of that Moody Blues album, IN SEARCH OF THE LOST CHORD.
Jorma, I looked at your future tour dates and don’t see any Hot Tuna shows,yet, in the schedule for the rest of the year. Hopefully that is going to change.

It looked like you were having a great time, also. Great show! I’m currently working with Steve Kaufman in his on-line rhythm class. There’s nothing like being on the road. You’ve been doing this for so long. Seeing the smile on your face, obviously, it’s still enjoyable to you. And I’m so glad. I can’t wait for my opportunity to hear the new stuff you’re playing…but for me it might be a while. I listened to the You Tube McCabes concert from ’93. I was at all 6 of those shows. I remember the banter between songs. It felt like I was back there again. That was a great time. Pete Sears was a new member. You said at the end you might actually have to play Funky #7 on the 25th Tunaversary, then went into a brief Invitation interlude. One day…and I’ve been hoping for sometime, you might bring back Invitation. Always one of my faves from the Rampage Years. Rock hard with Jack and the guys on the electric Tuna shows Jorma.

Excellent set list for the shows you played! We love these songs and Candyman and Keep On Trucking Mama are fun for toe tapping and dancing.
Today we are going to have Hot Tuna Tuesday at the restaurant because maybe it will not be very busy.
Jorma – I was lucky enough to see you twice last week – Wednesday nite at City Winery with my brother Rich (he wrote on your blog earlier this week – Rich L). He went to both of your shows at City Winery. I’m surprised he didn’t drive up to Stoughton to see your show there. If it hadn’t been a Sunday night and he had to go to work back on the South Side of Chicago on Monday I’m sure he would have. Saw you played Embryonic Journey up in Minneapolis – he would have loved that!
My first time at the opera house. What a fantastic venue. We were up in the balcony and the acoustics were great. We could hear every word. I wish I could have seen the fire curtain. That is so cool.
Thank you so much for another wonderful night of music. I can hardly wait to see the acoustic Hot Tuna with Jack and Barry hopefully in the near future, but the opportunity to just listen to you sing and play the guitar was really special. Especially love your new song In My Dreams – I can’t listen to it without tearing up. Beautiful. You really got me at City Winery when you played that and followed it up with River of Time. So much emotion!
