I’m going to start this little entry with the dinner Jack Casady and I just had in Hilo. We were looking for a place to eat… not that there are a shortage of great restaurants here on the Big Island. We found this:
A chance look up and there we were.
Lam’s Garden, Vietnamese And Chinese Food was quite simply, incomparable!
I’m making note of this for the next time I’m here!
Open till 2200!
OK… now to back up a little. Myron, Phil and I drove to Volcano National Park where my Golden Age Passport got us all in for free. It does pay to be ancient!

In Volcano… we found a cool cafe.

We hit the Lava Rock Cafe in Volcano for lunch, and it was really delicious. We’ve had some great food on this trip.
A quick flashback to yesterday morning… a cool radio interview with, yes… live music by us!

Tomorrow good old Hot Tuna plays the Palace Theater in Hilo. I was here with Chris Smither a couple of years ago. Jack and I are sure to have a ball!

That area is the top of the ear? Then it is outside. The earlobe is outside. When I first went to the beach here I did not know how strong the sun can be so I got a sunburn and look like a lobster. Then I google the application of sunscreen.@John B
You forgot to mention the tips of the ears.

Yes very important to apply sunscreen to the feet on top and in between the toes.
Also the soles of the feet. Put a lot on there because the feet sweat and a handful of sunscreen for each foot is good maybe seems like too much but it is not. When you swim come out of the water and do apply it again. Up to your ankles heavy let it sink in. The ankles up are the same application, from the tippy toes to the top of your head and don’t forget your ears, inside and out and behind your ears.

You reminded me Doc of my first visit to Puerto Rico many years ago. We were warned by our host of the intense sun from 10 to 2. Poor lady next door to me forgot that also meant her feet. Although she wore a hat, long pants and long sleeves she forgot about wearing sandals. Walked around for about 2 hours. Worst blistering I ever saw.

Ironic that you found a Lam’s Garden. I used to live next to Lam’s Garden restaurant in Athens back the early 80’s when it was located down the bottom of the W. Union Street hill (right next to what is now the Smiling Skull). Anyway, loved their food! My buddies used to say that I lived in the Chinatown section of Athens because that was the only place to get Chinese food! Looking forward to Electric Hot Tuna on August 1st.
