This has been an incredibly busy year for me… and that’s good. Self employed people don’t get days off, they’re out of work. I’ve had so many great gigs… some with Barry Mitterhoff, some with Jack Casady, some with Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams, the Dear Jerry show with Buddy Miller, Don Was, Sam Bush and a host of others! How good does it have to get?
The flip side, of course, is being away from home so much. Now, Vanessa and Izze are used to my being gone… that’s the deal. I love my gig, but I miss home when I’m gone. To be back on our farm for a couple of consecutive weeks is like Summer Vacation to me and I’m enjoying every moment. I’ve had a couple of great motorcycle rides and well… just having coffee in the morning in the quiet peace that only the country can give you makes my day.
Of course, even at home that madcap life that music brings surrounds us. Tomorrow and Sunday is our Arts & MInds Festival at the Fur Peace Ranch. Yep, the 25th and 26th of July from noon to eleven o’clock the Fur Peace Ranch the joint will be jumping. Both Saturday and Sunday at 2 PM, I will be playing a free set in the gazebo next to the Psylodelic Gallery. Saturday night there is a ticketed concert with It’s A Beautiful Day and Sunday, Jack and I will be doing another ticketed show… the acoustic duo. Cool beans.
Izze Kaukonen will be selling her Worry Dolls and Paracord Survival bracelets made by her own hand and I’ll be around all weekend to hang out and chew the fat.
My life is filled to overflowing… why should I slow down if don’t have to. Now… it’s time to walk Maverick, Dog Of Destiny, Dog Of Light…

Your daughter is alright ! Prospect Park, being the favored of the landscape architects who also designed Central Park (google it) is a fine place to hear great music. Especially @William
for “a free show”.
I gotta say, as a person who is sometimes weighed down by a bit of a depression and feeling that the glass may be even less than half full, I find Jorma’s postings to be an “up” for sure. Really — how good DOES it have to get.

A most amazing lady!
Awesome experience for my wife and I today. It was our first visit to Fur Peace Ranch and we met Jorma. He took time to let my wife have her picture taken with him. What a gentleman. The day was enjoyable and we had a fun time. His set was amazing as we watched a master craftsman perform. We’re talking now about a trip back to NYC to celebrate with them.
The gazebo built by your neighbors…that was such a cool story.
Every once in awhile I wander around the internet looking for odd bits and pieces of history and I found the below description of Jorma quite fascinating, further research revealed a person who I can really admire. See below first;

Her name is Sally Mann Dryden Romano, she has journeyed a long way from the person she was in the period she describes. She wrote this for photographer Herb Greene and it is her contribution to his photos of Jefferson Airplane. Later she wrote more concerning her life’s journey and it evolved into recovery and I, along with many others, can relate but she took it to another level. Here is the link to her story;

I had hoped to stop in to catch the lawn show with my daughter (to break up our road trip back east from her summer research up in Gambier), but she is determined to make it to another free show in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Saturday night. Longfellow said “music is the universal language of mankind”, so who am I to stand in the way of her enthusiasm for hearing as many dialects as possible (which already includes a HT show up at the great Flying Monkey in NH).
Looks like a great day for an outdoor show, I’ll be thinking of all you lucky dogs and looking forward to the Beacon in November.
It looks like you’ll be blessed with great weather as well. I would love to come out but I have to go upstate and cut the grass. You deserve a nice long rest.
