Setting up at the Arena
Friday Myron and I got into my old red truck and drove down to Asheville, North Carolina to meet Jack Casady and Justin Guip. We were honored by Warren Haynes invitation to be part of his magnificent Christmas Jam.

Bright lights... what city
It has been a number of years since we were a part of this awesome community project for Habitat For Humanity. What a cool deal! Needless to say I ran into many old friends.

Well… what a worthy trip!!!!
Onward
yea the 70s were a blurr a great blurr, seeing tuna fri, sat nite both shows each night at the palladium nyc then following wkend same thing both shows each night at captiol theatre nj that was normal and you were pissed off if you missed just one show
I like the picture ‘Bright lights…what city’ – it reminds me of all the years when the whole Tuna Crew (Harvey included) used to stand backstage and dance for 6 hours then travel to the next city and do it again. 1973 to 1978 was a blurr – we used to watch you guys playing your asses off – what wild times – you don’t have to tell me what Double Dose means. Those were the days…Thanks Jorma
ps I got some of Jack’s Double Dose tea – great stuff!
Hoping this means Warren will be making another visit to the Ranch? His show there a couple years ago with you all was fantastic! m
My previous comment remains in moderation so let me moderate a bit 🙂
Thanks for playing at such a worthy cause and being the highlight of my trip to Ashville. I was at the show with my 15 year old son (aspiring guitar player) who wanted to attend as a Christmas present. Thank goodness he pushed me for it !!!
There was great music all night but I must say that both I, and my son, gained a whole new appreciation for Hot Tuna. I’ve always enjoyed the music but seeing you at Christmas Jam brought a whole new level of appreciation. We had HT on for a good portion of the 5 hour ride home to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley Virginia on Sunday.
Thanks again and will be looking for future shows to attend.
It’s for a very worthwhile cause.
Well done, as always: Jorma, Jack and Justin.
Jorma, that photo: “Morning in the mountains” is among your very best.
You caught it at just the right moment.
I like that purple reflection effect, it’s a natural play-of-light, captured in the moment, although you may not have noticed it when you took the photo. Beautiful!
The Twang, Bang, Boom caption is a classic. And so is the photo!
Saw some of the pics that Jack posted.. Looked like a great gig! And they say Bass Players can’t jump :)!!!
Jorma,
I have to tell you that I’ve always enjoyed Hot Tuna but when I saw you play at the xmas jam my appreciation went to another level (embarrassing to say that it took so long). In addition to myself, my 15 year old son was there too, he is an aspiring guitar player who, like me, found the next level of appreciation for you, Jack and Justin on drums. We listened to Hot Tuna for a good portion of the 5 hour ride home to the wonderful Shenandoah Valley Virginia.
Both my son and I are so hoping that Electric Hot Tuna comes around somewhere fairly close soon. We both have this as our top billing to see!!!!
Thanks for all of the wonderful music you have produced over the years and thanks for being such a musical genius!!!!
Seeing that last photo of your red truck waiting for you in the mountains reminded me how important it is for all of us to pause en route from here to there in our lives and enjoy the moment. But we rarely do, tightly scheduled as many of us are. I am guilty of that myself, this weekend driving from NJ to OH to see daughter dance at college, and then back. I guess my “red truck moment” was the 18 hours my wife and I spent with her between 8 hour drives.
Thanks Jorma for illustrating the importance of slowing down every now and then. Glad to read you made it back for Warren’s latest Christmas Jam. Good cause indeed.
Right on Jorma.
A great time for a great cause.
Those lucky folks musta got an earful’a Tuna!
Happy days.
