Thursday I got back from SXSW in Austin and Friday was the opening day of the eighteenth year at the good old Fur Peace Ranch. Jack Casady just got back from the Isle Of Jersey and indeed, we were ‘putting the band back together.’ There was a great bunch of campers and the stage was set for a sold out show Saturday night.
We built it... and they came...
The vibe was right and Jack and I were in fine fettle. Vanessa joined us for the second song of the first set… Ain’t In No Hurry. How good does it have to get?

Jorma & Jack – love you both. I never get tired of listening to you play. It was my first trip with my sister Barbara. Your place is beautiful and so serene. Vanessa was very gracious and her voice is lovely. I enjoyed looking at your pictures, coats, boots and those great great Cat Andirons! I love them! One more thing off my bucket list, but one thing that remains is that I would love to meet both you and Jack one day. Then I’d be set. I know you played at the Sellersville Theater in Sellersville, PA, at one time, and if you were to play there again, that would be fabulous. It’s a great little theater and best of all, it’s right up the street from where I live:) My sister and I came to hear you back in December at the Scottish Rite Auditorium on a Thursday then came up to NY to see you at the Beacon on Saturday. We saw you at the Colonial Theater 2 weeks before we made the trip to your ranch. I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it but I did. We drove 6 1/2 hours to WV to a hotel then drove 45 minutes to your ranch on Saturday then drove home Sunday morning. We listened to your new CD on the way home. Loved it. Take Care and see you again soon. Maybe I’ll make the trip to the Capitol Theater on my birthday to see you.

Jorma, your recent photos from your Lucky Lounge show in Austin brought back some great memories of when I got to meet Ian McLagan there back in 2012 after one of his shows. He made some great music in his time and was a class act. May he rest in peace.

I think it’s off the coast of Great Britain – either Scotland or England – they have big music festivals there. I can’t see Jack playing without Jorma.

It was a great season opener, eighteen years and counting… a first for me. If the ranch was a dream, it certainly has become a reality off the windy dirt road, amidst the trees in southeast Ohio. It was a memorable night for my sister and I to hear you in the FPR Station venue. We’ve been fans since the early 70’s, but the ranch is unique. Vanessa’s Monroe rendition of Happy Birthday was a treat for the crowd, but her accompaniment on “Ain’t in no Hurry” was a true delight. I can see why you say there’s no place like home, I think a lot of us felt like it was home for us too.
We’re planning to return as soon as we can.

It was a great show at the Fur Peace Station this Saturday night . Despite the dicey travel conditions on the way down it was well worth the white knuckle driving conditions we encountered going up and over the the mountains of West Virginia ,Maryland and Pennsylvania . Conditions at the Ranch were as they always are whenever I have visited which is warm and welcoming . If you haven’t yet visited the Fur Peace Station please start planning your visit now and I promise you that your expectations will not only be met but exceeded. Jorma the new songs are just beautiful and it was a treat to see Vanessa up there with you for Aint in no Hurry. It is a lovely song and Vanessa was right when she said you should record it.
