So we finished our second week in San Diego with a bang. David Wolff, Larry Campbell and I were teaching and Teresa Williams got in to SD on Thursday night in time to pick with me and Larry.

We wound up Friday Morning said goodbye to San Diego and headed out on the road.

Nessa, Izze, Montana and Shannon went home to Ohio (9 degrees Fahrenheit) and we came up to L.A. for the gig at McCabe’s.
Larry and Teresa and played two sold out shows last night and had a chance to debut lots of new material from my new CD, Ain’t In No Hurry.

I would also like to sadly note the passing of Sam Andrews. He was a great guitar player, but mostly a fine man. We are diminished by has loss and our hearts go out to his family. Rest in peace brother.
Our company gets smaller every year…

Wow, what a show you three put on tonight in Salt Lake City. The chemistry amongst you was positively captivating. After seeing Jorma for decades without a female vocalist, Teresa is a fabulous addition. And what can’t you say about multi-instrumentalists, singer and songwriter. Larry Cambell? Hearing him play fiddle harkened back to Jorma’s time with the great Papa John. Great, great music, thank you, thank you, thank you. Come again soon.
2nd set Sunday nite at McCabes was very nice. A set list would be cool also!
A friend in Santa Monica gave me a report on how great Sunday’s show was (which one I don’t know) and told me that the encore was a huge surprise and blew everyone away. And tonight, I just got Ain’t in no Hurry. Sounds absolutely great! Thank you! The “whole mishpucha” indeed! In the meantime. looking to the City Winery shows in Chicago in April. Hopefully the snow will be gone by then!
Very sad to hearabout Sam.I first saw him in 1968 with Big Brother @ the Fillmore East.Six years later in 1974 I had the honor @ 19 years old to jam with him on drums in Boston @ a club called Burke’s Place when he was fronting a band called Lady Flake.I remember Tommy Flanders from the Blues Project coming up to sing “Back Door Man” Man what a geat night for a 19 year old kid.Over the years I’ve seen him in differnt configurations of Big Brother & Mobey Grape & he continued to evolve as a musician & was one of the sweetest human beings one could ever meet.
I Agree with Charles. It is like looking at art masterpiece of the art could speak it would sing to us. Every art small or large and short or long , appreciated as a masterpiece.
Awesome show on Saturday! The Magic of Mccabes came through again. A perfect mix of new material and some Tuna classics thrown in the mix! I’ve heard Teresa sing a few times and man she can belt it out. With all due respect to Larry, she’s not bad to look at either. First time I’ve heard Sugaree played acoustically and she just killed it. You guys weren’t too bad either 🙂
Yes it truly is sad to see Sam Andrew go. I always liked the interplay between Sam and James Gurley. Also sadly gone. I’ve been listening to some great jams lately like QMS and Country Joe and the Fish together live at the Fillmore. Cipollina, Gary Duncan, Barry Melton and Joe McDonald all on stage jamming together. It’s not living in the past as much as it is admiring that on some nights extraordinary music was made at that moment in time. Like looking at the Mona Lisa or reading the old masters, it will always be there and stand as a testament to those wonderful performers. Luckily we still have some of the greats from those magical times still making music. God bless Jorma and all those who made San Francisco and its’ beautiful sound something loved all over the world.
Santa Monica, my home town.First digs were at my grandma’s house, just around the corner from the Fox Theater on Lincoln.
Occurs to me that I saw Tuna at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in the 70’s (Jorma blew his amp out during ‘I See The Light’), and at McCabe’s in this decade. Lotta miles in between. And in a miracle of miracles, Jorma and Barry played my new hometown of Carson City in ‘011. He loved the tamales.
Did I say Police Dig? Someone did.
Oh, and I meant open D tuning.

I am so happy your visit to San Diego was swell. Santa Cruz (where I’ve relocated to) is beautiful as well. Wishing I could have made the trek to McCabes’,…one of my favorite venues. The set list is intriguing to say the least. Can’t wait to hear the new album. I’ve been wondering for some time if you’d ever get around to Samson & Delilah. Probably one of the more well known Rev. Davis numbers. Always happy to see Police Dig Blues on the set list. That drop D being somewhat less common.
Anyway, it’s good to be alive, Jorma.
