Aslan & Mary Cat
Back at Hillside Farm, we welcome Aslan and Mary Cat who have joined Zammy The Cat and Maverick The Dog in our fold!
In the temporal scheme of things, today… August 13, 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the very first gig of Jefferson Airplane at the Matrix on Fillmore St. in San Francisco. Wow… fifty years. Who would have thought? From then until now… an amazing journey. Many thanks to all!
Back in the present in this universe, I arrived in Macon, Georgia with Myron and Phil and had a chance to do a little sightseeing in the Mothership Of Southern Rock.
First of all… a man’s gotta eat, and so for breakfast we went to the H and H… and paid culinary tribute to Mama Louise.

Yep, this is the place!
Hmmm… what to eat?

Country ham breakfast, cheese grits and bacon marmalade

All gone...
Yummy… to say the least!

The engine room...
After breakfast, we headed over to the Big House… and a plethora of Allman Brothers history.

Nice gate...
There was so much great stuff to see and play with here… thanks to Brian Whitley for hooking us up with all the people who made this possible.

Richard Brent of the Allman Brothers Museum made it possible for me to play Duane’s ’59 Les Paul Gold Top… what an honor!

Through the Marshall 50... not bad!

Yeah… what a treat!
Then it was time to head on over to the gig at the Capitol.

This was the front of the building. I love behind the scenes fotos as well, so check these out.

Where is that stage door?

Hmmm... maybe this one...

Is this the band bathroom?

BTW, what is the official 50th for Hot Tuna ? Just planning ahead
Hey Jorma,
Those kittens are just tooo cute…Congrats on 50 years. “What a long strange trip it’s been” I’m sure. So glad that you and Jack are still rockin it out.
Safe Travels
🙂
I am sure if Bill Graham was still around he would present you with a Gold Watch ! Maybe not 50 more but many more still to come. Congrats
Fifty years of water under the bridge! Whoa. I remember reading Ralph J. Gleason’s articles early on about the Airplane in the Chronicle and wondering how long the band would last. Like the Dead, my friends and I thought all you high energy musicians were too crazy to last more than, maybe, five years. Ha! Like millions of others, we got fooled in the best way possible. You artists have definitely passed the acid test for talent and longevity and we are all blessed with your presence. Thank you for walking the Earth with us.
got to play Duane’s goldtop here in Gainesville before it made it’s way to Macon…unplugged, however,on the tailgate of my truck….i really got a jolt when i grabbed the old leather handle on the case, for some reason…..then i snorted all the dust and debris in the case and fled, citing a grim situation…..happy trails….
Nice looking kittens there, Jorma. What’s a home without a cat? Gotta love’m. Thanks a lot for the photo.
Everybody rememembers their first…concert, right? Mine was at the Inglewood Forum, in ’69. The Allman Bros were backing up Three Dog Night, but never mind that. Duane and Dickie, unbelievable. My Dad me and a friend a ride to the show. I was 13 years old. How cool is that? 🙂
My two favorite bands of all time had their first gig on 8/13.
The Clash in 1976 being the other one.
Thank you,thank you ,thank you.
On time,every time.
Peace
Love All Ways
Nice of you to pay tribute to the roots of the ABB.
Happy 50th to J.A.
Happy left-handers day!
And finally, lots of folks post pictures of their meals; who else but you posts pictures of the empty plate???
Really great readin’ you! Rock Charleston on top tonight Jorma!
Love the Allman Brothers. Enough to shout out “Whipping Post” after you just cranked a tune out. Sorry about that, but it was really a compliment. You were always cool about it….usually you had a quip response.
That breakfast looked Yummy! (compared to my oatmeal this morning). Looking forward to seeing you guys again at Lockn!!!
Wow! Fifty years. Congrats, Jorma. Honored to have gone on but a small part of that trip with you.
