A small order of pancakes...
Phil and I started the day at the Hawaiian Style Cafe for breakfast. We forgot that on the Big Island… everything is big. That’s a short stack!

We took the top off our rented Jeep headed out for Waip’o.

It was a great day by all accounts. We got back to Hilo in time to have dinner with Jack Casady and now it’s to bed. Early radio show tomorrow.

Make sure you stop at one of those coconut shacks out there for a coconut drink.
When i was out there i pulled up a dirt road to a shack where this guy had a little shop and rented snorkeling gear. He takes a coconut from a pile on the ground and places the coconut on a stump and takes out a machete, then he chops the top of the coconut off and puts a straw in it and hands it to me to drink. Delicious.

those are some awesome pictures! This is an awesome place. My wife is starting a new job and we decided to take a vacation on the big island (one of my suggestions). And what a coincidence that hot tuna is doing a little mini tour. We’re still on the kona side of the island and plan on catching the shows in Hilo and Honokaa. First time in Hawaii and I keep pinching myself. Went out deep sea fishing yesterday. Had a tuna on the line and a dolphin took everything except the head. Circle of life. We ended up buying some Ono at the fish market near the harbor. Delicious stuff. Anyway I’ve been reading your blog from the beginning. I always find your writings inspiring and from the heart. I love that you always post the set lists and your experience at the different gigs. Much appreciated. While I don’t always agree with everything.. Like you said opinions are like… Nuff said

Jorma your Hawaii trip always reminds me of a great vid of Pipeline by the Chantays. I note that Brian Carman, who co-wrote the tune with Bob Spickard, passed away March 1st. The old You Tube shows lots of vids for Bob still sounding great. RIP Brian. Ride The Wild Surf forever.

The North Shore of Oahu has the big surf. If you’ve never seen it….well, it ain’t your typical body surfing waves.
Don’t forget to try some Hawaiian pineapples before you leave. It’s my favorite fruit and if I ever get to Hawaii I’m gonna eat them til they come out my ears. Glad to see you’re having fun – you deserve it!
