Eagle and bus

I’m in Leesburg, Virginia right now where it looks like tonight’s gig at the Tally Ho Theater may be cancelled due to weather. I hope not, but there’s a lot of snow falling out there and we’ll just have to wait and see.

I wonder if there’s any food in walking distance…

    Yes I hear about Zappa. Very creative guy with sense of humor. My friend would go to see him play in Manhattan. One time Nils played and sang a song :
    “Why does it hurt when I pee?”

    @jim hitchcock

    @Joe Guarisco
    Don’t worry Joe, when I go to a concert I will not call out for anything. I hear it is o.k. to cheer and whistle between songs with the applause. I don’t ever get f-ed up because I like to enjoy myself without drinking and the drugs.
    I’m a really boring guy. My main interest is coin collection. Not kidding you.

    Jorma, At the Grey Eagle you intro’d a song by relating how the lyrics were from the Woody Guthrie trove wisely shared (my opinion here) with you shared by Nora Guthrie.
    Which song was that, please?

    @Steve Levenson
    Hello Steve. There are many behaviors for a knowledgeable crowd. Applause indicating instant recognition of a song is one. Appreciation for musical virtuosity or vocal magnificence within a song performance, again by applause, is another. Respecting the artist’s current creative situation, the areas they are exploring and growing into, is another, more sophisticated state of awareness, evidenced by not calling out for specific songs, and accepting what the artist offers.

    Hey, remember the Finnish drummer from the old days in SF? It’s me! Sounds like you’re doing fine, just wanted to say howdy and “Remember the good old days.”

    Thanks for Water Song and Embryonic Journey. See you soon…Lord willing.

    Those of you in the PA/NJ listening area that pick up WNTI 91.9, may want to listen for LIVE Jorma on the radio, interviewed by the one and only Spider Glenn. This should be a real treat!

  10. Comment made on March 6, 2015 by jim hitchcock

    It’s part of rock & roll lore, is all, Andriy. Zappa played it as sort of a joke to the people who would call out for it though the band on stage was not the Allman Brothers.

    Rock Them High Tonight Jorma!

    @Jorma

    Yup….There must be something in the water over there in the NC Blue Ridge that goes RIGHT to the fingers and makes you wanna tap yer feet! (SW Virginia too……goooooooooooooood pickin’ area)

    I am guilty of yelling “whipping post” a time or two. Usually gets a chuckle, even by the band. I’ll be at The Colonial tonight. I’ll try and resist.

    I was at a David Grisman show many years ago, and the guy next to kept hollering stuff like “play that guitar!”. Then he started spinning around and hitting me with his hands as he twirled.
    Not appropriate at a mandolin concert…

    I needed to learn about this so now I know what is funny about this. Some people get f-ed up and yell for songs not in the right concert. Then the guy threw up on Steve. Steve needed a bucket to hold for the guy that night!@jim hitchcock

    Oh yes we deliver in local area but kasha doesn’t ship well by Federal Express to Kansas City. If you are ever in Brooklyn on a Monday please be welcome to eat here with us we listen to Hot Tuna and we have good times for sure!@Steve Levenson

  18. Comment made on March 6, 2015 by jim hitchcock

    I guess Steve is saying that was not the guy who yelled out `Whipping Post!’.

  19. Comment made on March 6, 2015 by Joe Guarisco

    Looking over the Grey Eagle song lists, I’m positive I heard you include Barbeque King in the second set. Or did I experience ye olde euphoric auditory hallucination?

  20. Comment made on March 6, 2015 by Steve Levenson

    @andriy Does the restaurant deliver? I can’t get kasha here Kansas City, and I miss it. Mom used to make it with bowtie pasta…. 🙂

    @Jorma, I’m curious about how you recognize a knowledgeable audience…I can tell at a hockey game (cause they call penalties before the ref) but not so much at concerts. Once I sat in front of a guy who thought Larry Coryell was Frank Zappa, and when I asked him if he knew what show he was at, he threw up on me. I guess he falls in the not knowledgeable bucket.

      Because in North Carolina Piedmont Style has ruled for over 75 years and in this case, most of the people working at the club picked… well, very well!

    Hi Jorma,
    Saw you at The Grey Eagle, great show! The sound was perfect and we loved your choice of tunes. What a fine venue for acoustic music.Kind of a flashback to the early 70’s. We are from Rochester, NY and have seen you at The Jewish Community Center as well as The German House but this was the first time we have seen you solo. There is something about the lone wolf approach that I love, really brings out the best! Travel well and we will look for you down the road.
    Yours Bluesly, Fred and Lynn

    Wish I had a dime for every time I played a song from Quah at WRNW-FM in Briarcliff Manor, NY back in the mid 70s. The show at the Grey Eagle was absolutely wonderful. Thank you, thank you.

    “Give me a pistol and three round balls” tomorrow @ the Colonial. Your Pal

  27. Comment made on March 5, 2015 by andriy

    Jorma be careful walking there. If you could be around here we would deliver food to you or you could be inside the restaurant.
    “Hello Jorma! What do you guys want to eat? Can I recommend Borsch, chicken soup
    with dumplings, HOT TUNA!, chicken Kiev, shish kebab, kasha,and for dessert
    baked apples and crepes stuffed with cheese in chocolate sauce. Wash down with Jorma tasty tea from my private stash.”

    We are going to turn up the Hot Tuna and have another fun day at work.
    Good times for sure!

    Jorma,
    Safe travels thru PA and NJ. We are getting heavy snow as well and then single digit freeze over. But, it will be HOT at the SOPAC and Newton. Both sold out!

    Try Thai Nam Phet II in Newton for authentic Thai food. Open Sundays.

    See you there.

    It is snowing very heavy here in Brooklyn already there is 4 inches with wind and maybe 8 inches by 7pm. The stores and diner is closing but we are open for the people who will walk to here and we make delivery to the people at home.
