Rachael Price and Teresa Williams were tremendous, they rocked hard, blew my mind
Hi, We were at the Sat show and it was total bliss. The 1st set was good old fashion, industrial strength, pure unadulterated, Hot F’n Tuna. As a special treat, Tuna played “Watch the North Wind Rise”. Love that song. (Request, please Jorma, play “Santa Claus Retreat” or “Hot Jelly Roll Blues”).
The trio arraignment allows Jorma’s guitar to come through loud and clear. Justin’s drum work was seemingly flawless. It’s hard to believe that the band came into these Beacon shows basically cold with regards to playing an electric show together.
The 2nd set, an assortment of Jefferson Airplane songs, was simply magnificent.
The singers were all great, including Jorma’s vocals throughout the night. Larry’s violin channeled Pappa John, and G.E. is such an accomplished musician that accompanies Jorma, Jack, and Larry so well.
Also, seeing Izze dancing at the side of the stage during the Airplane set was priceless.
I’ve been to ALOT of Hot Tuna shows over the last 40+ years, and each and every show was great. The Saturday show at the Beacon was an historic performance and everything considered, possibly the best I’ve ever seen.
Thank you to all the performers, especially Jack & Jorma. Bravo!
Happy Birthday Jorma, hope to see you again soon.
Thanks once again Jorma and Jack as always GREAT show,Funky#7 was incredible, listening to you guys for 50 years now and it never gets oid! Thanks for all the music and memories, Happy Holidays
Jorma, please put “Feel So Good” in regular rotation! Would sound great with the electric trio.
Jorma….Well it certainly was an honor for me to finally meet you and shake your hand….Thank you so much for taking the five minutes or so to chat with me, one on one….To be honest, it was very humbling for me….I wasn’t kidding when I told you I’ve been a big fan ever since Burgers came out….Well, Saturday’s show was one I will not forget anywhere in the near future….It certainly looked like the band was having a lot of fun….I know I was….That birthday cake was really cool….Thanks for the great show…
Chris….
Dear Jorma,
There’s not much more to say that hasn’t been said already. Both shows were simply outstanding. Just when I think you can’t outdo the previous years show you guys nail it. It was nice to hear Mourning Interrupted and In The Kingdom. Sugaree was a great choice for an encore both nights. You are surrounded by such great people and wonderful talent. The highlight for me was watching your youngest fan on the side of the stage just rockin out..that was price less. Thank you for a life time of memories and much more to come.
Hope you have a nice holiday and safe travels.
Take care
Kathy
🙂
Jorma,
Happy birthday in advance, and what a nice Firebird!
I think of you and your musical influence especially every time that I pick up my Gibson ES-345.
A version of Johns Other with Larry would be ultimate. I got first pull up from Tandys records in England over to Norway in -71 I think. It turned out to be the soundtrack of my life. Snarne .@Joel Brier
Thanks Jorma and jack and everyone. Great 2 nights. I had lots of fun. Happy holidays to all. Will do it again next year.
Jorma and Jack rocked their asses off for three and a half hours! Hot Tuna has never sounded better. The Airplane set was something special.
Got to see the Saturday night – it was incredible! Not only was it the best Tuna show I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen a lot) it may just be the best concert I’ve ever been to! Jorma and Jack were great as always – two of the finest musicians in the world at the top of their game. Loved the electric trio format. And then the Airplane set went to new highs! Rachael and Teresa are both beautiful and incredibly talented singers. Justin, Larry, GE and Jeff were great as well. Great audience too – everyone was digging it! Now I’m looking forward to seeing them at the National Theater in Richmond – front row tix! Life is good. Thank you Jorma – Happy Birthday and God Bless!
Saw the Saturday night show–lots of superlatives in these posts, and I have to agree. Had my son with me. He had seen electric Hot Tuna five years ago at the State Theater in Falls Church, VA for the first time and loved it. This show was so special, but made priceless when, as they broke into Bowlegged Woman, Knock-kneed Man, he turned to me with this look of total sensory joy and said “Hot F’in Tuna!” Talk about the “circle of life”–wow! I was able to actually watch my son get it in the jugular by the same balls out rock n’ roll blues that hooked me 39 years ago. Now that’s what I’m talk in’ about!
When do tickets go on sale for next year?
Jorma, Can we get you to work up a version of Johns Other with Larry. A fitting tribute to our old friend Papa John.. From the Funky Biscuit brothers and long time friend of John and Sylvia. Aka Gretchen. Joel
Well it looks like a bunch of people have said most anything I can think to say. Heck that never stopped me before! I was there on Saturday night with my wife. I have been going to HT shows since 76. I have seen you guys many times with many line-ups and truly loved them all. I just never can get enough! However Saturday night my god you guys were tearing the roof off of that place!! The Trio first set was a beautiful mix of the incredible energy balls to the wall Rampage Tuna mixed with the contemporary arrangements, just incredible, Fn eh! The Airplane set was just so special to hear with really outstanding performances from all of you. Eskimo Blue was mu favorite many years ago and was damn cool to hear it live for the first time ever! Thank you all so much. And by the way, thanks to all of my fellow Tuna fans who have more enthusiasm than any fans out there. It’s all a lot of fun a being a part of! HFT Baby!!
Both nights were great but Saturday was special with that Airplane set which was incredible. From True Religion to Sugaree it was off the charts. My highlight of the show was In the Kingdom and North Wind Rise – but the Airplane set was the surprise of the weekend. I can’t believe it’s been 50 years. Can’t wait to see you again which should be a bit calmer – acoustic Hot Tuna in Westhampton Beach in early December. Can’t get enough Hot Tuna! Happy Birthday Jorma!!!
I dug both night. Severely! Thanks.
Dear Jorma,
Saturday was great!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your’s!!
Be well,
Cyndy
Yes it was an amazing show. As good as it gets. The singers were all fantastic and the musicianship was incredible. The guitar solos were all sensational. The first set was one of the best Tuna only sets ever and then the second set topped it with all the Airplane stuff. Heavy jams with a big full sound with the singers. Jeff Pehrson really surprised me, what a great singer, along with Teresa and Rachael, holy cow it really sounded good out on the Beacon floor. Both nights were very very good and both a little different. Friday’s show was at the same level. Great song selections and placement. But yeah like WOW WOW WOW it was really awesome. I was blown away after Friday’show, then THIS! Jorma’s electric guitar solos were off the hook, long with blistering bluesy tones. Jack was amazing, Larry too and GE n Justin. Hard to put in words. All good. Happy Holidays!
Cheers!
Is that a new Gibson Firebird, Jorma?…one of the coolest guitars EVER.
Hot Tuna has never sounded better ! Thanks for putting together that Airplane set for us and bringing it to the Beacon . In my opinion Jorma I thought that it was beyond incredible. Please tell Jack that he was fabulous as he was playing things I can’t recall ever hearing from him before. It is so nice to see the joy on your face when you watch him play . How wonderful it all is.
Thank you for giving us the great gift of Music for all these years. This weekend The Music was incredible, inspiring, emotional, rocking, soulful, jamming, bluezzin, electric, acoustic..Hot Tuna at there finest..
Jorma, and Jack.. I would have to agree, these two shows may have been your finest pair of shows,,I have heard.. going back to 74…The Tuna braintrust came up with a great formula.. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend both shows. Friday night, taking my youngest son (20yr. old) to his first Beacon show.. Cam always appreciated Tuna/ Jorma and has seen them at a few festival out door gigs.. but friday was pure good ole Hot Tuna.. the mini set with John Hammond, the trio format,,and than the whole gang.. love that firebird,Tone, volume, song selection,,yikes!! Saturday with ticket upgrade thank you Vanessa. Eileen and I loved it..The trio set again worked so well..great material all played top notch,,crisp, clean vocals.. big smiles.. Than the icing on the birthday cake( looked awesome , (tie dye airplane).. JA super set.. played so well.. great musicianship.. Jeff found his inner Marty circa pointed little head era..Theresa was stunning..as well as Rachel who took on some of the “deeper” Grace tunes(eskimo blue day, Law man).. it topped the Locking set, Im sure Grace and marty would put there stamp of approval on this genuine tribute.. ..Thanks Jorma and Jack again for bringing that music back,, if it was just for one show, its one for the books..the ultimate request would be to release the weekends, sets on “Tuna’tunes .. the whole deal was one big highlight..Thanks again for “getting it done”.. be well…hope to see you down the road again…
The 75th Birthday Bash – both nights – was incredible.
And very different from the 70th.
Five years ago, many special guests appeared e.g., Warren Haynes, Bob Weir, Bill Kirchen….. While it was great to see all the friends and hear them jam 5 years ago, this year we were treated to a different approach – more jamming and solos from our two honored heroes Jumpin’ Jack and Jorma.
Yes, we saw the boyz in the raw, and then Larry, GE and the singers rounded out the sound.
As we remember from 1974, we were treated to JacknJorma = “active ingredients” and heard “Pure, unadulterated sounds with amplified additives and the necessary polytonal ingredients to handle heavy loads.”
Oh my, what a celebration indeed!!!!
Thanks JacknJorma!
It was amazing to be in the room with that music. The Beacon rocked and HT has never been better . . . (I would love to get my hands on that poster though . . . signed or not) . . . anyway . . . there is nothing like a Hot Tuna show. What a recharge! Can’t wait until it’s available . . . Thanks guys and keep rockin’!
Jorma the weekend was a blast. Saturday night was special. You guys killed it. Had such a great time.
I have been watching clips from the Capital and the Academy and 46st Rock Palace this morning. My first show was in 1973. Thanks for a lifetime of great memories.
Happy Birthday. See you soon.
WOW WOW WOW! This marked 40 years of Turkey Day Tuna tradition for me. I remember saying to my friend in the AOM that I’d go see Tuna every Saturday night if they played. Thanks for decades of music that I love beyond words. Great seeing Jorma actually relish playing Airplane. Don’t know why it still pains you so much, but likr most people I heard this unbelievable guitar on Airplane albums and wanted to know who it was coming from. First saw the Airplane at 14 in the rain at Gaelic Park in the Bronx with ‘Sunshine’ on stage, and knew rock and roll was for me. Happy Birthday and Rock On Jorma!
Jeff Pehrson!!!!
THANK YOU!!! We have to agree that it was one of the best nights ever – you guys just get better and better. How do you do it?
I always feel so lucky getting to watch a Tuna show, of course all of your guests were spectacular.
Happy Birthday!
Yes it was certainly a wild thyme!!!! Just a killer night-best Beacon show in years for this kid!!! Eskimo blue Day was my high school fantasy come true!!! Jorma was that Izze grooving and playing air guitar on the side of the stage in a black and white sweater? She was really having fun!! See you in Vineland in less than 2 weeks!!
In my opinion this band is the best on the circuit at the moment and Jorma is being typically modest. I hope these concerts are being videoed.
Just got to watch Good Shepherd from Friday, and Volunteers from Saturday.
Incredible.
Jack is dominating, Jorma is playing inspired Wa-Wa lead, and G.E. Smith is orchestrating the band.
A good time, it looks like was had.
Words fail you?
Greatest nights ever?
Saying I’m envious of those who were there would be an understatement.
I’m so very happy for you & Jack, Jorma.
It was again the best show, although this one stood far above all! The 2 shows at the beacon covered it all. You keep playing, well keep coming!
I want to thank all of you for this weekend and Jorma, I have to agree with you about being one of the best nights. Ode the second night was incredible and G. E. on the 12 String was a revelation into the heights Jefferson Airplane soared as a group. The climax of Eskimo Blue Day put me in orbit. Lawman is a song I’ve always loved.
EVERYBODY NAILED IT.
ATTA BOYZ AND GOILS !!!!
Jefferson Airplane Love You indeed. Great looking cake.
Peace
Love All Ways
