The view from the Yogananda's terrace
Hurl and Vanessa always like to take me to the Self Realization Fellowship site in Encinitas. It’s always lovely and always peaceful.

The carp are living large... and beautiful
A perfect day in Encinitas…

What a garden!
Then a walk down to Yoga Beach…

Tough to beat this view!

People always say to me, ‘Wow, it must have been great back in the day with tour buses and all.’ ‘Guess again,’ would be my reply. Country stars had tour buses, not rock musicians. We toured in Ford LTD wagons… rented. Now I know this is an Olds not a Ford, but you get the picture. Jefferson Airplane’s equipment truck was a Grumman bodied Metro bread delivery truck.
Good times…

The Mifune in Japan Town
When I get to S.F. my first eating stop is at the Mifune Noodle joint where I have been eating for forty years.
Love this place…
The weather is preternaturally beautiful here in San Francisco right now… I think I’ll go for a walk.
Wow. This site really blows me away. I didn’t read The Autobiography of a Yogi until I was in my 50’s. I read some Ram Dass, Castaneda, and Huxley back in the day, and the way I came into the Yogananda’s sphere was no doubt guided by the unseen spirit. It clarified and unified a lot of my spiritual beliefs and it is one of the truly uplifting books I have read. That spirit lives and is uplifted here. When I saw the picture from the Yogananda’s terrace, I just said to myself, “Of course. No surprise finding that shot here.”
“…walking that fox was better than having a baby in the park for meeting girls!”
Single greatest story I’ve heard today.

Watts Test.
Ha…….time flies.
Go figure!
You were in a White Gland Tribute band, Big Chuck?
Sorry about my old fingers hitting the button twice.
It always makes me smile to remember how it really was as opposed to the “myth” about how it was. I remember the musicians I worked for driving from town to town in the station wagon with their “luggage”. Always had stage clothes that were way overdue for the laundry. Equipment and crew rolling separately in a “rent a truck” with about a 20 foot box on it. Never enough sleep, always hungry and never knowing if it was going to last beyond the next town. None of us would get a second glance from anyone during the day in the town. But that night (let’s say Mason City, Iowa) we were the biggest thing going. Great 5 part harmonies and musicianship that was barely good enough. But we were there and we were doing it. The crowds loved us and would never have believed how it really was. It was 1979 and I was being paid $20 a day for each day we’re out. Lodging was paid for as long as you could sleep two to a single bed. Mr. Bigshot rock and roll guy for $20 a day and all the lonesome you could stand. Just another taste of life.

Ahh, the luxury of the old station wagon, my father trained thoroughbreds so we traveled a lot, try a trip, mother and father in front bucket seats, 4 kids a dog, cat in the back seat of a 68 Olds Cutlass from Laurel, MD to Oxford, CT.
Before that we lived in Charles Town WVA where a hunter had found a fox den and gave my mother one of the pups, a vixen red fox who became a family member. When we traveled back to CT with her I’d take her for walks at the rest areas along the Jersey Pike, walking that fox was better than having a baby in the park for meeting girls!
We eventually got a very large station wagon and on summer vacations we’d hook up the horse trailer and head for the tracks. Great life back then, too bad no one goes to the horse races anymore, beautiful sport and great people.
We had a 68 Ford Squire Wagon back then ourselves. Thanks for the memory
Just wanted to let you know I was watching my Flip Wilson DVDs last night and was surprised to see Geraldine singing Just Because with Johnny Cash at the end of one of Flip’s shows. Was a hoot and led me to your website to pick up a couple of things here for old timeys sake. Peace! -z-
Thanks for sharing your memories of real tour circumstances. I always figured you guys were flying around in private jets and the ground transportation was a limo not a station wagon. What a hoot!
