Well… It’s been a beautiful week since my last entry. The weather has been unseasonably warm during the day and nicely chilly at night. I managed to get all my work done and had time for two very fine motorcycle rides.

Then a couple of days ago our pal Smiles was working on our trials when he sensed whitetail activity. For those of you who hunt, you know the magic that happens when you have been still for fifteen or twenty minutes and the forest forgets about you and comes alive. Smiles, a seasoned woodsman, relaxed on the hillside and got this beauty with a crossbow at thirty feet.
Nothing will be wasted here.
Now we’re not headhunters looking for trophies. This young buck has a small rack, but a lot of meat. We got about fifty pounds of ground venison as well as a bag of loins. Vanessa and I are cooking venison meatballs right now which we will have for dinner with spaghetti. You won’t find this meat in a market! One of the things I love about cuisine in the Italian and German countryside is dishes with wild game. Hard to find here in the States… but we can do it at home.
I can hardly wait for dinner.
This is whitetail terrain...
We’ve got 126 acres here at the Fur Peace Ranch, and we’ve been spending a lot of time hiking in the woods. It’s like have a state park in your backyard.
Then yesterday my friend Jeff who teaches at Ohio University, got off early and asked if I wanted to go for a ride. Yep… let’s do it. Another successful trip through the Hocking Hills.

Today was election day if course… I was at the polls by 0645 and voted… my duty and my honor.
So much for that… life continues to go on. This weekend at the Fur Peace Ranch is our closing weekend… Jack, myself and Barry Mitterhoff, then it’s on the road for while.

I’ll tell you one thing, next four years, the bully pulpit is gonna look like something we ain’t never seen. Hope it don’t become the pit-bull-y pulpit.

After casting my ballot while holding my nose, I was caught in reverie somewhere in between those two great songs. While my focus is always first and foremost on eternity, whether we like it of not, were in this great big ship called America – or even the world – being led by quite fallible leaders. It does seem like we’re heading for the rocks at times. Politicians always seem to be shouting, full speed ahead!
As we dive into the future, I’m reminded of perhaps the best solution to the acrimony that so easily ensnares us. The sagacious advice comes for “Uncle John’s Band.’

Just love covered bridges, Chris and I are hoping to make it out to the ranch next year for a show, it’s on the list…Can’t really tell from the picture but it looks like a nice spike horn, I don’t really care for venison but my family does especially when they make jerky. I prefer wild turkey, love it deep fried. So happy to see that Barry will be playing with you and Jack this weekend, hope he is doing well.

Up Route 26 from Marietta, there are several old wooden bridges as you pass thru the Wayne Nat’l. Forest on your way into Washington County. The road follows the Little Muskingum River, a scenic ride in itself.

How exciting. At least I did civic duty and voted – even though I knew Clinton was going to win in New York. Why bother to vote? It was a protest vote. This was a movement that was sick and tired of the swamp in Washington.
I didn’t even watch any of the election night programming.
I don’t care who other people voted for. Instead I watched “The Big Interview”, it was a repeat of the Neil Young interview.
Then I watched “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner”. After that I watched a screener of the new Brad Pitt movie. I like movies set during WW2. It’s a good movie.@Steve Levenson

You were 16 when you attended that event, I celebrated my 11th birthday over that weekend there. We’ve seen a lot in our lifetime.

The elections are over and the Silent Majority has spoken – it’s a great day for America. As a NYC guy – I feel really good for another NYC guy!
Seems a lot of people went for a walk in nature after voting. I walked around a lake. It didn’t care who I voted for, and I am grateful for that.
As a 16 year old lifeguard ,I attended that event in Bethel Ny, I got to see all the bands after Canned heat until the Morning maniac music at 35′ from the stage( eclipsed by the Towsend /Abbie Hoffman scuffle).
In spite of my early repudiation of the marijuana tempered politics of the late 60’s ,I stood at the DC mall in early 70’s when Paul suggested that the Pentagon be levitated -It didn’t move as much as the landscape did.
I have always loved the FREEDOM , that the movement suggested, I believe that reinforced my sustained interest in this music that Jorma ,et al continue to profess today.

The challahs and organic strawberry jam will still be made and sold by my former employees at my small business. I started with 7 employees there and they are all good workers. No complaints from them, they are all happy to show up to work every day. Now there are 10 employees. It’s their business now.

I’m going to have a lot of time in 2017 to check out the beauty of the woods.
Because I don’t like Clinton, I don’t mind that I voted for her and she lost to Trump. I don’t like him either. He’s going to be the POTUS. Won in a free election. Democracy. I’m going to see how he will “make America great again”.
So for 2017, I won’t be working, will only work for free doing charity events.
During the year, I will keep a tally of Trumps’ work:
If he does a good job, I will work in 2018 and pay income tax.
By the end of 2018, I’m going to give him another job review. And so on, until the end of his term in office.
I’ve lived my life being independent in every way. I have only one full-time employee. I can afford to pay her, while we work only for charity groups.
(This past year, I tried to hire another employee, to help us. Offered a big salary and good working conditions. Great job for 20-somethings. Had to fire each one that I hired because although they wanted a job — they didn’t want to work. Every time I gave them an assignment, they asked: “How long is that going to take to do?” My reply: “If I’m not rushing you — what’s your hurry? Most of the time we are working to meet deadlines and the idea is to work as quickly and efficiently as you can.” Maybe now, there will be an appreciation and willingness
to take pride in their work. That would be a change.)

I don’t have to hunt to get that, but many people haven’t a clue about the beauty in the forest. Love being in the woods myself.

I’m the alternate judge in my voting precinct, and thankfully so far the voters have been quite courteous and patient. Heavy turnout, and that’s a good thing for our democracy. Onward.

I got up early today just to go out and vote.
It was so early (for me) and I only had to walk across the street.
I wore my red, white and blue pajamas with matching robe and slippers. It was a fashion statement but really — I was too tired to get dressed.
