yeah, that sounds pretty cool. I made a few shows at the Barn in Woodstock and one in Little Rock before Levon’s passing. I sat next to Larry’s mom at a new year’s eve show and I’ll never forget the look of pride on that woman’s face as her son’s talent lit the room, and all the people were so happy and having such a good time. She was a real sweet lady. I’ll be keepin’ an eye peeled for the doc.

I was at Targhee Fest and I can’t remember when I last had more fun. I’d never seen the electric set before and it was just incredible! Jack was in fine form, all the jumping around at altitude, Ha! I was impressed! Bow Legged Woman blew my mind..
I noticed several professional looking filmers there and I’m wondering if there is a film project going on, or video to be released of the show. I’d surely like to see it if so. Can’t wait till you come back to the area. Thanks for the great music and good times!
Yeah… we sure had a great time too. This film guy is doing a documentary on Larry Campbell and we weaseled our way in. When I know more, I’ll let you all know!

Texas gave the country the man who began an endless war against an invisible enemy. Our legislature passed the most draconian voter id law in the country, we dismiss the poor and vilify the immigrant. The supreme court overturns law after law our legislature wastes time and energy to pass. A guy named Tom Delay overturned the redistricting process, then got his ass run off. Hell, our morals as reflected in our elected officials challenge my ethics, and any pride I once held as being a native Texan has dwindled to a perilously faint ember. I know politics sucks all across our land, in general, but the xenophobia and fear exhibited by the nation has been fed and flamed by its “reddest state”. We don’t seem as friendly as we used to, but maybe that’s just the old fart coming out in me. My comment was intended to be facetious , but my reasoning was quite serious. I’d love to see ya’ll down here. Onward, through the fog!

I drove up from southeast Texas just to see Hot Tuna, and I’d do it again. Thanks so much for letting us share in your joy. It is kinda funny, to think that when I saw Lightnin’ Hopkins at a little bar in Austin back in the day, damn he was old…but not as old as we all are today. To see you fellows rockin’ the house and to hear the musical intensity that such a deep familiarity breeds was like getting a couple of pints of young man’s blood in me. Oh, and I wouldn’t have to drive to Colorado if you guys could swing a little further south next time you head west.

The show at the Ute Theatre was some of the finest guitar work I have seen from HT. Thanks so much for the excellent music and great fun. Years ago (mid 1985 I believe), my older sis dragged me to a HT show at the Roxy in DC. You guys left an impression that I cannot forget. Unfortunately my sis is gone but every HT show I see keeps her memory alive! Thanks for rockin’ out. HT is always good but LOUD HT is the sweetest. Thanks Jorma. Thanks Jack!

my favorite bird moment….
It was that frigid winter two years ago. I went up to fill our bird feeder when I noticed a whole bunch of birds sitting on the feeder and the fence right next to it. It was Twi-light and about 15 below zero.
as I got about 20 feet from the feeder, almost all the birds scattered to nearby bushes- but not too far away! One lone cardinal stayed on the feeder until I was about three feet away. It finally perched on the fence about 7 feet away. This is really weird, but it seemed like we bonded in some deep spiritual moment somehow that evening. (I realize the bird was probably just hungry though!) How do those fine feathered friends survive in those temps?

Bird stories, last place you thought you’d ever see them:
I was camping in the Sierra with a cousin, fanny parked in a cool camp lounge chair in the shade, tossing pistachio shells into the campfire pit, when a Mountain Jay flies down and start grabbing the shells. So I started shelling them and tossing the nuts instead.
Bird would fly down, pick up a couple, and fly off to stash them. The I started tossing the whole nuts down, and the jay would collect them and fly off to a different stash every time. At the end I was tossing them right at my feet, where the fearless fucker would fly down and collect them.
After about 10 minutes of this, Seamus the Wonder Parrot jumped off the tree branch (he didn’t know how to fly), came running up, gave me this ‘wtf’ look, and started grabbing his share. Funny moment.

Seamus always went camping with me, and I would often park him on a tree branch
He had the tendency to climb higher if possible. One time two jays flew to a tree adjacent to him and started squawking over territorial invasion, and Seamus didn’t budge. Then they flew over to his tree, and really started giving him shit. He ran, ran down, that tree and jumped on me.
Jorma and HFT – looks like some good sets…wish I had the opportunity to hear it!!!
Rock Springs, Wyo….that’s what caught my attention here. Not too many folks familiar with that town in Sweetwater County, Wyo…
During the early 1970’s I spent a couple of years there…working on those Wyoming oil rigs. When I got their in 1973 it was a full fledged western boom town attributable to the oil boom at that time. Down on “K Street” was where all the action was; the good and the not so good. There was actually a documentary made of this boom town phenomena at that time I think by 60 minutes…Was that Mex restaurant downtown?
No place to rent for any amount of dollars when we arrived. Everyone just ended up in tent camps west of Rock Springs off I80. Just like the old west !!!! It’s funny cause we used to drink Cowboy Koolaid (Coors beer)and go floating down the Green River (just west of Rock Springs) listening to 8 track tapes of you guessed it; Hot Tuna… Yes there is a tie in to Hot Tuna in this post. My memory recalls there were not too many Hot Tuna fans out there then, but being being from NYC tried to change that……………
