Any day is a good day for a ride!

Any day is a good day for a ride!

It has become so common of late to say, ‘At my age this,’ or ‘At my age that…’ Fact is, there really is no other way to say this and it’s true. Over the last year or so, I have lost many friends, some my age and some younger. At any age when you lose someone who is part of the story of your life, the Bell definitely tolls for us all.

That said, the Reaper is never without work and that’s just the way it is. When we talk about those who have left us, the response is almost always, ‘I’m sorry for our loss,’ and we appreciate that… but the loss is for us to absorb.

When one passes, the end is written to their story, there will never be a new chapter. All they have been is finished, and all they will be will never happen. Done.

Is it sad to see it thus?

It shouldn’t be, because that’s just the way it is. I was having brunch with Vanessa today when I heard that Guy Clark passed yesterday. I was saddened to hear this. Guy was a friend and I was such a huge admirer of his art. I knew that he had been unwell for a number of years and that his wife Susanna had preceded him. At what time does one prepare for that final journey? Hard to say since as a rule, it’s not our call when our ticket gets pulled.

It was an honor to have known Guy!

Today was raining but I had an appointment to take Vanessa’s Dyna into the Harley shop for servicing. ‘Take it tomorrow,’ she said. I thought, ‘If it’s sunny tomorrow, I’d rather go for a ride than spend a couple of hours at the Harley shop.’ Plus, every ride you don’t take is one less than you’re going to get a shot at in this life.

Why wait?

Every doggone minute folks… every doggone minute!

I’ve got a camp at the Fur Peace Ranch this weekend with Tom Feldmann, Chris Smither and Happy Traum, my beloved wife and kids are well and for me… well so far so good! I’m taking a deep breath and soldiering on.

As for Guy… fair wind and following seas brother, fair wind and following seas!

This is the first I have heard about Guy Clark, always have loved his writing style and his music, he will be missed. I lost my wife in late 2014, so I have thrown myself back into my music, hope to get up your way thanks for being the artist that makes everyone feel like they are important, when you are on stage, it is as if all the people in the audience are with you in your den or on a campsite by the fire, magical. I hope very soon to get to Fur Peace Ranch, it calls to me!

Just got home from a matinee performance today by John Mayall who has a number of years on Jorma and also weathered many such storms of life as have we all. If Mayall’s stage persona, strong vocal, keyboard and guitar playing performance is a portent of things to yet come from Jorma we are all gonna be happy campers for shows from Jorma and the guys for some time to come!

It’s just a God given ability to play the guitar and write songs that is far superior to most human beings. Now that you’ve mastered the universe what do you think about pre-existence and afterlife. I happen to believe in both. We existed as spirits before coming to earth to get a physical body which we will have in the afterlife for all eternity. We will maintain our individual identities. And there will be a big party in the end for all the good spirits that will last forever. Keep your Lamps and don’t stop praying brother.

If you think about it it is the only way it could be because the Big Bang universe has to be expanding into something because it can’t be expanding into nothing, so the only alternative is it is expanding into a contracting void that is receiving it. Sort of like an existence of God theory, this dynamic forces that alternate dimension simply because the present one can’t logically contain it. Now that I’ve mastered the Universe I still can’t fathom the mystery of Jorma’s guitar playing…Angels in the architecture, alleluia…

I realized in bed last night that the Universe is expanding into its counter flux collapse on the opposite side in a reverse dimension that is beyond the ability of our finite minds to comprehend. This means there is no end or beginning and we exist in a God-like perpetual infinity that also has ends and beginnings. In other words, from this dynamic everything is OK. But I don’t want to spoil the plot for everyone else…

“every ride you don’t take is one less than you’re going to get a shot at in this life.” My sentiments exactly. I rode to work today; I ride most days. It’s livin’.

Well said. I know. life seems to go so quickly. I think about this too! And none of us know what lies beyond, if it is nothingness or heaven or who knows. So it is a mystery to be alive at all- and then a weird feeling to know each of us will die. Such a weird trip. We have so much consciousness and power but we also are just put here, in this mystery, with only inklings of understandings! May love be with everyone.
