Well, it’s been raining like we should think about building an ark. That said, there was a window of sun today and Vanessa lent me her Street Bob for a ride. Three great hours later… I’m back.

Really… good times!

In real life, you don’t even come close to those very few whose personality have “grated on” me. It takes much more than that ( or any other effort, by any other commenter here), to irritate me. Here and also in real life.
Even then, their efforts have been wasted. I’m beyond being insulted.
    Never going to happen.

Hope your day was great Vanessa.

Ha! In real life think I have the tendency to grate on people, maybe because my sense of humor tends to come off as teasing. Then again, I did do a good thing today; on facebook, telling a relation she was a better sister than I ever gave her credit for 🙂

    (Apologies for abusing Jorma’s bandwidth)

If you want to pronounce Jerry as “Yerry” — that’s a cross-cultural commonality.
Honest answer: It’s a matter of origin.@jim hitchcock

Sure, why wouldn’t I like you enough to consider us to be friends?
We are the perfect example of two people who have never met, yet get along here in Jorma’s cyberspace. We share the same taste/interest in movies/books/music.
We have more in common — than not.

Honest question: I have always pronounced Jorma as a silent ‘J’. That would mean Jerry is pronounced ‘Yerry’

  7. Comment made on May 8, 2016 by jim hitchcock

Yes you are, cuckoo bird 🙂

(It’s fun to be able to tease Barbara, because we’re friends)

    Happy Mothers Day Vanessa.
(and to all of you great moms out there.)
Blended families, adoptive parents… being/having a mother is special.

A resonance of the original 60’s timbers from which it was derived, from which the Jefferson Airplane’s airframe was constructed.

  10. Comment made on May 8, 2016 by Brian Doyle

But I wonder will the sun still see all the people goin’ bye
Will the moon still hang in the sky when I die,
When I die, when I’m high, when I die?

And I do know that I need to have you around,
And I do, I do know that I need to have you around.

The Airplane sometimes had really rich glass reflections of certain 60’s sounds that derived from pure 60’s sources like folk and even sounds like Julie Andrews, Petula Clark, Mamas & Papas, Twiggy, etc. The amplification of this somewhat genteel genre into intense deep beams of psychedelic color sort of defines the most delicately profound aspects of their gilded machine in its trippy promenade…

Jorma – Love those words – there is always a Beacon show!! Saw HT at the Beacon and saw you and Jack in Westhampton this past winter. Hope to see the Tuna at the Great South Bay show this summer, or perhaps Stephen Talkhouse anytime! Happy Spring and Happy Mother’s Day to Vanessa. Enjoy the ride.

Glad to see Jorma will be playing the Beacon with Derek and Susan on October 5th. Pre-sale is available until 10 p.m. tonight using the code trucks.

Join with your fellow Jorma/Hot Tuna fans in Ireland to put the word out that you would all like to see that show there.

I don’t know why the U.K. promoters have not booked it yet but mostly it’s a matter of them waiting to see how it works with other promoters in that part of Europe. One show scheduled and tickets sold, in that part of Europe, next thing the other promoters are interested. That’s also the case in Germany.

It is! You wrote that you’d be surprised , I thought, if there was not a Beacon show. Thought you were responding to Johno’s question. Thanks for the affirmation!

Surprised and disappointed is more like it for me. 6 years ago, at Jorma’s 70th birthday bash, I ran into a former classmate and friend from Franklin and Marshall College Class of 1980 in the lobby between sets. I hadn’t seen him in 30 years, yet recognized him as a member of my college circle of friends who, along with myself, was a huge Tuna fan. We have been meeting up for dinner before each Beacon show with our respective spouses (his wife is also an alum and old friend) each year since. It’s our great tradition. I’m sure many others have similar stories. Need that Beacon show!

Hi Susan… disappointed with what? I lost the thread here somewhere… but there is always a Beacon Show if that’s what you were talking about.

When are you coming to Dublin, Jorma?

  23. Comment made on May 4, 2016 by Barbara Jacobs

Post an e-mail so I can contact you, then I’ll give you my phone number and we can chat.
I’m not working the show, and there’s nothing else that I need to do that day or night so I can enjoy it from start to finish. The venue is still under construction but will be completed soon. It’s only 15 minutes from my Brooklyn apartment and if I leave my windows open that night, the aroma of the Willie Weed will drift in. We predict that the shows there will be full day fun-fests
for the audience who will hang out at the beach, boardwalk and Nathans will be selling a lot of hot dogs!@Ham n Eggs

Jorma and fellow commenters, apropos of nothing whatsoever, some of you might be interested in this Virginia State Library article on Jimmie Strother, or Strothers. He recorded the version of “Good Shepherd” (“Blood Strained Banders”) on which most later versions are based:

    http://www.virginiamemory.com/blogs/out_of_the_box/2011/10/10/mug-shot-monday-james-jimmie-strother-no-33927/?nggpage=2

In one of his letters asking for pardon he says “in order to protect myself from the fury of my wife, I fired my pistol and happened to hit her and she later died.” Quite a feat for a man who in the next sentence states that he is totally blind.

Since I don’t have a motorcycle this is all I have to say…

Nice bike Captain – many years of happy trails! Supposed to rain here all week – should be nice next weekend – be careful. No ark needed yet – I think.
