Last night we hosted one of our dinners at the Pho Peace Restaurant right here in the Beatrice Love Kitchen. As always, Justin and the gang in the kitchen knocked it out of the park. I had the beef as I usually do, and as I usually do I saved the meatballs for desert. Having tasted everything here I must say the chicken and the vegetarian pho are also delicious, but I’m just a beef guy I guess. We also had Kimchi and Bánh Mì sandwiches. A true evening of yumminess!
As if that weren’t enough we had fellowship and music too! I’ve been accompanying my dear friend John Hurlbut at sundry Pho Peace events and it is something I always look forward to. John has always had his own artful approach to the music and playing with him totally frees me from the ‘Doing My Show’ syndrome that we professional musicians cannot help but fall into. I get to explore territories that I rarely get to visit when I’m either solo or with Jack and Justin. Good times always! Here’s what John and I played:

What a set Johnny put together and what a delightful evening. After dinner we all adjourned to the Psylodelic Gallery and I hung out and chatted with the folks while they looked at our current show featuring paintings by Andy Tucker whose work reflects moments in time with the faces of inspiring politicians, activists, writers, poets and musicians. We’re also exhibiting a collection of photographs from my personal archives during the early years of Jefferson Airplane. Though the focus last night was on our current exhibit, our permanent collection of original concert posters, jewelry, clothing, instruments and more is always worth a drive to Darwin, Ohio and the Fur Peace Ranch.

Mr.and Mrs. Ham’n Eggs and I had a wonderful night, seeing Willie at the Coney Island Amp.
I remember delivering Newsday in the sixties on Long Island and listening to the World Series on my transistor radio, kept in my shirt pocket, using an ear piece.
my favorite Willie quote – “We’d sow our wild oats on Saturday evening, and pray for a crop failure on Sunday morning.”

In spite of the fact that this is principally a blog fostered by Jorma , and that the common thread is Hot Tuna , its always the positive segues and comments that bring it to life.
I’ve been in the Lex Kentucky Area for 40 years now , but I grew up in Fairfield county Ct( lived in Brooklyn till 4 years ) Were fortunate that we are 1 hr from Cinncinatti , so we get to see professional baseball as we want, unfortunately tough for small market teams to compete these days , so always tough for Reds fans.
I’ve always looked forward to post season baseball , it gets better by the night.
Reflecting on my childhood and I played and was an avid fan of baseball.
Here’s the rest of the story:
I was in the “oldest “class in my grammar school , it was a Catholic school , and they built it K-8th grade , I started there in 4 th grade and the nun who was the principal was our teacher(A+ educator , if I didn’t learn , I wasn’t listening). She was an avid baseball fan and in spite of her extreme doctrinaire approach , she would allow us to listen to the afternoon World Series games on our ear pieces from our transistor radios.
The games were as exciting as the best Dead shows , listening to games with Koufax , Marichal , Clemente , Gibson , Aaron and the “say hey “kid ,(Willie Mays ); you’ll notice a strong NL bent.We were in heaven.
On a funny note , she took up a collection from my class one year before Easter break to provide the custodian with a couple of buck —”To wet his whistle”.
I’m happy that Houston won, its probably uplifting for the local community.
I don’t think they need any uplifting in LA , they’re high enough .
As an aside , we went to Chattanooga two Saturdays ago to the Sailors /Soldiers memorial coliseum ( great Fukien hall), to see Dwight Yocum open for Willie Nelson -Still , Still moving to me.

Yes, Ham n Eggs! I was in the house for game 6 against the Mets in 1986. It liked to have killed me when they were forced to go American League, because I was always a National League guy. To see the way the new owner and management tore down and rebuilt the organization come to fruition makes it all worth while. Go Astros!@Ham n Eggs

Hey Greg, I been following the Astros since they were the Colt 45’s. Spent many a summer evening listening on the radio with my grandfather, plus many more good memories throughout the years. Last night, the monkey finally came off our back, and to do it against a team like the Dodgers swept that monkey’s ass clean outta Texas. A series for the ages. Go Astros!@Greg martelli

The Astros seem destined to win the World Series. The Dodgers seem stiff and nervous and they are not hitting. The Astros offense is really good. The Astros are peaking. This is where good hitting overpowers good pitching. This is good Series.

I go to see you and Jack live 3 – 5 times a year in the New York area. I am a damn lucky man that I can say that my favorite and most inspirational music talent continues to tour at this stage of HIS life and MINE.

Easy now eaglesteve. It was a really good game. Penn State was winning for the first 3 quarters. Then OSU had a 19 point 4th quarter and won. It was almost as exciting as last nights World Series game.

Wow…would loved to have seen you and John play that set list. One of these days I’ll get to see Hurl play. I just saw the new documentary “Rumble – Indians Who Rocked the World.” It was great! Reminded me of Hurl because I bought some JED albums from him at his store in Columbus back in the day. Curious if you crossed paths and ever played with Link Wray and/or Jesse Ed Davis? Looking forward to HT w/ Kimock on 11/11 at FPR. Got a couple of good shows leading up to that: Paul Thorn and the North Mississippi All-Stars in Charleston WV on Sunday 11/5 (I think the McCrary Sisters are playing with Paul) and then the talented Holly Bowling in Cleveland on 11/6.

Is the kimchee vegetarian? Most time contains fish byproduct or whole anchovies. Difficult to find but always worth the effort. Used to get it at The Temple in the Village on West 3 NYC.

I’m not into college football that much, but that’s gonna be a good game. The Penn State Nittany Lions vs The Ohio State Buckeyes. They are both highly ranked teams. I like the Nittany Lions but either team could win. That’s what makes a good game. Go Lions!

In my house we always say, eat desert first, you never know whats next. Meatballs for desert, as always very creative. I would be a vegitarian, except I love the taste of meat. Dont know if you are into college football, but big game for your local school Ohio State today. Go Buckeyes
