After the last show with Susan and Derek we beat feet to Minneapolis for a two shows at the Dakota Jazz Club. We did a half a day to walk around and decompress.

Just reflecting on the derision and backbiting , this reminds me of Genesis ( not the great song by the guy that provides us with this forum), we don’t even know it but we are in the garden of eden ( we could be living in sub Saharan Africa ),I enjoy most of the comments on this blog & quite frankly enjoy them as much as Jorma’s chronicles , as you get to hear the collective experience of a fan base that has enjoyed this music for 50 some odd years. And than you get to hear the cool shit , like the guy from Texas , talking about his bar room experiences with the likes of Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
I’m sure the host rides the bike for anyone of a number of reason ; freedom , changing scenery , comraderie , but it also makes you fully concentrate as you are totally engaged in the saddle .It makes you temporarily forget the bullshit of the world .
The world is too much with us, getting and spending.

    Just to review:
My first comment was directed to Jorma.
Greg then replied to me and we engaged in an intelligent, friendly discussion.
Then came those two, above; having nothing intelligent nor of any substance to offer — just an attempt at their usual disruption.
Freedom of speech here, allows them to attempt to conspire to disrupt with stupidity.
    It just proves their immaturity.
It’s an example, in real-time, of how the dumb continue to attempt to gain a following.

  23. Comment made on August 12, 2017 by Barbara Jacobs

    The usual.
I don’t need to direct my previous comment to Greg, nor to anybody else.

Yet, within 3 minutes, there’s the other one.
    Followed by dead head, again.
Followed by the other one, within one minute: “Ignore it Maybe it will go away”
Orchestrating, offline and planning their next comments.
    No substance. No intellect.
It’s the highlight of their day.
Two peas in a pod. Getting off.

First, he directs: “Everybody get out of the way:…”
Now,he claims: “Yep; everyone has their own spoonful.”

    Directing “everybody”,then opining about “everyone…”.

Freedom of speech and thought. Jorma allows, we chat. Some of us share and learn.

  30. Comment made on August 12, 2017 by Greg Martelli

Having attended 40 dead shows from Woodstock on ,I preferred to be a “human being”, a term native Americans particularly the Oglala used,it was a term of respect and acknowledged ones capacityand humanity( the native Americans weren’t the peaceniks that most think they were)in the absense of those characteristics , one was considered a “soul”, I always felt that the moniker of a deadhead presumed an unadulterated adulation of one band( I listen to them daily),and a diminution of what makes this a great life, principally the expression of ones individuality.
What appealed to me about the late sixties movement was its expression of freedom of the individual.
Don’t forget the memorialization of the end of the idealism-the”Death of Hippie”, parade in Golden gate park, late
    67,the idealism didn’t last long.

I don’t know the building’s name, but there it is and also one other in town.
Here in Manhattan, we treasure the terra cotta facades, as they are history of a time when the city was built by master craftsmen, who immigrated from Europe.
They don’t make ’em like that anymore.

  36. Comment made on August 11, 2017 by Greg martelli

There’s a great terra cotta facade on a theatre in down town Indianapolis , two blocks from the recently
R ferenced St Elmo’s , any body know the structure?

    Jorma,
That’s a really fine photo : “The Lumber Exchange” building.
“… from another century” for sure. There aren’t any terra cotta craftsmen around anymore.

Made it to Minneapolis once back in the late 90’s and the music godz smiled upon me by chance or divine intervention as I was able to catch John Trudell in concert that weekend…amazing! I think Dylan remarked once that there was only one person in the world that could write like John Trudell and that was Lou Reed. Unfortunately, can’t make Larry/Teresa/Gretchen this weekend at FPR however my big bro and his buddy Mike are looking forward to the show. I get some consolation in being able to see one of Butch Trucks favorite guitarists Heather Gillis here in Virginia. She’s a great singer and guitarist and an despite her early years she is an old soul. Thank you Butch!

That picture reminded me of a song I once heard….

    I See the Light

    Hot Tuna

In this world I’m living in I see the light
Sins are gone, now I know what is wrong and right
Morning came on slowly pushing back the night
It’s good times now that I can see the light
On this road I’m walking on I see my way
Paradise I’m living for each and every day
‘Bout the crossroads of the past, nothing more to say
It’s good times now but we can see our way
In this sea I’m moving through, feel my life complete
With the one I’m living for time is, oh, so sweet
Feeling us together, living in the bright
It’s good times now, we can see the light
In this world I’m living in I see the light
Sins are gone, now I know what is wrong and right
Morning came on slowly pushing back the night
It’s good times now that we can see the light

As a nesciant photographer, I always like the morning shots , low level light at acute angle provides the most dramatic effect.

I always said, if I had to leave Athens for The Big City, Mpls. would be my first choice. My dad was raised there, his dad working til retirement at the Twin Cities Ford plant during the Depression. I’m heading up there next month for a week of fishing, which includes a John Prine concert featuring Larry Campbell and Theresa Williams. Sorry I missed you guys. Welcome home, m
