This is not a white oak

Saturday started with a trip to Lahaina for breakfast and of course I took yet another close up of the Banyan Tree. Our plans were to take the ferry to Lanai and visit the cat sanctuary.

Heading to Lanai

Heading to Lanai

Personally, I don’t think I would like to live on an island… too confining… but to be here when it’s winter in Ohio and to, in some way, make this a ‘work’ trip… how good does it have to get.

Izze loves kitties… we have four at our place. There’s Miss Kitty, the mistress of the Fur Peace Ranch, There’s Zammy and Aslan and Mary Katherine who came with us from Hillside Farm. There are also a number of visiting felines who come to share in the buffet when Maverick, Dog Of Light And Destiny, is not out. The feline sanctuary, was an amazing forever home for cats who would otherwise be destroyed.

How true... how true!

How true... how true!

The cats get medical attention, food, and a safe place to live. There were almost six hundred in permanent residence the day we were there!

New found friends!

New found friends!

Most of the animals were moderately friendly. The feral ones kept to themselves and we neither saw nor heard any cat fights.

Just a microcosm of what is going on here.

Just a microcosm of what is going on here.

Keep in mind that the Lanai Cat Sanctuary is a donation driven non profit organization. Check out their website, and if you love kitties… give them a few bucks. It is also ocean with an amazing view from a gentle hillside. What a location!

What a cool place. Yes, there is occasionally eau de cat poop tickling your nose, but hey… there’s over 500 cats! It could be worse… and the staff is constantly cleaning the grounds.

Can we take them home?

Can we take them home?

Then it was back to Maui in time for some late afternoon swimming.

Yesterday, of course, was Super Bowl Sunday. I didn’t have a favorite team. My Steelers were eliminated in the playoffs. I’m not fond of New England so I was rooting for Atlanta. Vanessa is a New England fan, so football at our place is always exciting. All this being said, I don’t think I have ever seen a more amazing game. My first NFL game was Super Bowl VII. Dolphins vs Redskins. We had tickets on the 50 yard line at the L.A. Coliseum. I was hooked and later I would have season tickets for the Oakland Raiders. I parked in Al Davis’ parking spot when I bought my first season ticket. Good times. Anyway…yesterday’s game was off the charts for me. Great football from two fine teams. I may never see a better one. Of course… there’s always next year.

Exciting stuff for sure!

I was up early this morning and out the window day was breaking in the most amazing way. I grabbed my camera and hit the beach!

Morning over Molokai

You can’t make this stuff up!

Indeed...

Today we begin our second Fur Peace Ranch On The Road and I will be joined by my pal David Wolff. He and I will be teaching here until Friday morning.

Classes don’t start until this evening, so I think I’ll take a drive on the back side of the island to Hana.

More will be revealed!

I understand. Barry was hard to take and the Jerry Jones show was equally as hard to take. When my sons were very young they started to blow off games every once in a while . This was during the Troy and Emmett Smith days when they won almost all the time. I told them that this wouldn”t last forever and that eventually Troy and that team would be gone and they who knows………. @carey georgas

I wanted a Packers/Steelers Final. I was not at all attached to either team, but became very interested in the game as the second half progressed! I heard the odds of completing one two point conversion are 30%

Kind of a long story, John. When Jerry fired Jimmy and hired Barry Switzer, I couldn’t stomach him. After he got a personal foul called on himself in the National Conference finals, and they lost, it only confirmed my feelings for him as a coach. Then, after he left, Jerry more or less took over as GM (almost as egotistical as Trump). His buffoonery over a decade-plus just flat made me not care whether his team won or lost. Might give them a look next year if the new attitude holds. Bud Adams ruined me on Houston football years ago, so I pretty much ditched the pros, like to watch some college ball. Actually, after the Texas Longhorns, the Buckeyes are one of my favorite college teams.

Carney why did you give the Cowboys up? Was it a difficult thing for you to do?

Parking in Al Davis’ spot? You can’t make that stuff up! That was back when I paid closer attention to professional athletics. Davis, Madden, Schramm, Landry, Rooney, Noll, Halas, Ditka. Seemed to be more of a game and less of a cultural event back then. I even gave the Cowboys up. Still watch the Super Bowl, though. New England’s end-justifies-the-means style of winning turns me off, so I was rooting for the Falcons. Great game nonetheless.

Speaking of cats, me and them don’t gee-haw so good. I got one, but she’s an outside cat. We have a grudging mutual respect, I guess, but nothing personal. That said, anyone who’d take care of 500 plus out of the goodness of their heart deserves a helping hand. Think I’ll take your hint, Jorma, and drop a few bucks their way. Onward!

More will be revealed with that spiritual condition. Make sure we always take care of that area of our life. That’s just advice I’m always given when I go out of town. What a wonderful place to have that kind of Fellowship.
Have a great trip. We will welcome you back to our winter wonderland.

Not sure if you have the energy to hike up the trail from the 7 Sacred Pools in Hana (I know Jack does damn lol), but there’s a bamboo forest a little ways up that’s pretty exotic. We found out where George Harrison lived and drove down the rocky road. Only the driveway puts you like right into his space so we turned around lest we invaded George’s privacy.

Take the destiny that was given to you and follow the right path…

That was a great game. I was rooting for New England. before I knew it – it was 14-0 Atlanta. And 21-3 at the half – I was worried. The Patriots come storming back to snatch victory from the vanquished. This one lived up to the hype.

I always wondered if you followed football or any other sports. Thanks for sharing and I do agree that it was perhaps the best Super Bowl of all time. Congrats to Nessa.
